Hey there! This is by far the best productivity advisor that I ever heard! I’ve tried this new method just today, and it made a world of a difference! Thank you so much for sharing it!
I do this very thing-focus on one project at a time. I can’t make the creative switch from one to another to often without muddying things up. I think another factor involved with the discipline is that there is a subliminal piece that tells us that discipline, staying on task, shutting down phones and emails robs us of our “freedom” as creators and freelancers. It’s so… ”structured” and old school to many.
This is great observation and great you have realised at this point in your career. I used to be a multitask nut and for the last 10 years I’m at doing only one thing at a time and completing it. Think about it, you can only say one word at a time, eat one thing at a time, drink one thing at a time, read one book at a time. This ethos allows you to concentrate and focus on that task with the best of your abilities. I also think this should apply in conversation when you are talking to a person and locking into the conversation rather than welcoming distractions.
This is so true indeed :) And trying to keep track of all communication going on via texts, messenger, mail, phone, discord and everything else as well, and files being dropboxed, googledrived, fileshared and what not, wasting time and energy trying to remember where things where communicated is an additional killer both of energy and brainpower, so I've started to direct everyone contacting me through other channels to send emails with their comments - it's searchable, possible to organize in folders if necessary, and so much better than all the other options, and the bonus of doing that as well as focusing on less projects at a time freed up so much time I actually managed to start my youtube-channel earlier this year as well, so a double win there :)
Great video! I was just thinking today about how easily distracted I am while working, flipping from one thing to the next. So thanks. BTW, is it possible to get such a sharp image as yours on an APS-C camera? (I already took your UA-cam Cinematography Breakdown course.) I'm curious if it's possible to get such SHARP stellar results using a mere mortal's crop frame camera... currently I'm using the Canon EOS R10.
In Reality , Multitasking is a myth ( even computer doesn't have multitasking CPU at granuler level, its so fast that it just creates myth of multitasking CPU) ). One thing at a time( Book, Good read), Silos/Zone for each task for your daily discipline routine ( Shootting/editing/Client call-Meeting/Scouting etc). ! BEST WAY FORWARD! ONE THING!
I don't have many projects on the go at any one time, but even 2 or 3 can be enough for your brain not to focus properly. I usually just do 1 for the entire day. But obviousy if I'm waiting for more material from the client i will then have to move on. But at least I know it's not me holding things up.

Great idea. I’m employing it starting today.

I dig this rule and it aligns with a quote from “The One Thing” book - until my one thing is finished everything is a distraction.
A timely post Rubidum! Thanks for sharing!

When this happens, you then get stressed because you havent finished it yet, causing you to hit blocks.
I couldn’t agree more
Love it!

I re-read The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan at least once a year
The struggle is real.

Smart. It's the switching that kills
