The Tamarindo attack hit home, Hal. I used to surf religiously back in the 90's and into 2010 when I went to Tamarindo for a month. I remember hiking out way north of the bay with an ex-pro surfer who took me to some of the best waves/rides I've ever been a part of. I never heard of any attacks while there. But to think how alone and far away from any help we were. It all went very well and was the most memorable surfing I ever had the pleasure of experiencing, but I never had an incling of sharks being present. I thought the water was too warm.
Years ago, I googled if there are any dangerous sharks in the Mediterranean sea (given that it's so warm)...Google told me firmly: no risk NO man eating sharks...well, guess my surprise when Hal told the story of an Italian clam fisher being taken by a great white!
@@therovingrobin5938 All around the Med is known for being a dangerous sea to swim in, particularly around the coast of Italy. Most attacks in the med are fatal, probably due to the overfishing in the region. Not surprising that Google has nothing, they wouldn't want to scare the tourists away.

I'm actually surprised that more people surfing/sailing/spear fishing don't have something on them to be used as a tourniquet. You can get wristbands made of paracord, that have multiple gadgets on them but just look like something the surfers would wear. Knowing it can mean the difference between life or death, if just makes sense to have one.

@@ianmorris4922 Hal creates these videos so we can benefit from the information and enter the water at our own enlightened risks, if the videos are not complete due to a technical difficulty, I am sure he does care and will deal with it in his own time, editing is a time consuming task, so he may not get to it right away...It is not fair to say that a Content Creator just doesn't care about the videos that they put out to the public, because there are a lot of behind the scene issues that the viewers just don't understand...🐈

There's an illness going around killing sawfish and a few other species. What you've described sounds like the early symptoms. Look it up, Bud... it's quite interesting (but also worrying!) The sawfish was suffering from the “Spinning Fish” syndrome that 30+ other species are having as well. It started in the Keys last Nov.
