I absolutely agree! I know it doesn't matter I was born in 69 , and love many women artists from all the Motown girl groups all the white singing groups girl groups huge huge fan of Linda Ronstadt Joni Mitchell who's one of the best musicians songwriters Lyricist ever ever, and the Go-Go's runaways etc etc but as far as standing up and singing they are the tip top! Was a peripheral fan growing up always dug the stuff but in the past couple years I've really delved into it was like holy smokes. And of course I'm sad that June or Bonnie are no longer with us. I'm sure they're doing just fine 👍👍
Ha ha! That's hilarious. I saw June giggling very hard and struggling to keep a straight face when Anita started singing "Fire." It might have been you cracking her up.
I just saw the video... "Talk to me, honey! I love it!" Man, the Attic was SO ON FIRE that night. I would have paid to be there, also as a performer. What an audience, what an energy!!!
Oh hell yeah! That's awesome. I was living in Charlotte North Carolina at that time and was approximately well hell I was 11 or 12. What a hell of a show to see! I'm envious
June is absolutely angelic here. There's something so innocent about her being the youngest sister...if not tragic. Her death was a huge loss, and I'm sorry for the way she left this world.
Tim C No one is denying that June AND her sisters had serious drug problems, but to IMPLY that "she left this world" due to her drug addiction is just plain false. Her family has said repeatedly that she died of cancer, same as her father, her niece - Anita's daughter and Anita herself survived her bout with cancer. Had June been alive to day, it is entirely possible that she, like all three of her sisters would be clean. We'll never know now, but we can be clear what caused her death and it wasn't from a serious drug problem.
Hi, I’m Tom Haines. I owned the Attic which remained open for 30 years and a week. I noticed that there are a couple of comments regarding our logo. When we designed we selected the letters quickly, but needed a strong graphic. The noose was suggested and everyone voted to go with it. This was in 1971, at which time it had no negative meaning, other than it’s an instrument for executions. We designed the Pointer Sisters logo. When we hung it (no pun intended), I approached all three of the sisters and asked them if we could put the clubs logo up on either side of their logo. All three in unison said “Absolutely, no problem. We’re all doing this together, so let’s celebrate together.” In 1981 is was a different world. Things changed, so the Attic also changed by replacing the noose with a guitar in the mid-nineties. Our logo was very popular. We ended up selling over 36,000 T-shirts as well as frisbees, mugs, matches, sweatpants, golf shirts, jackets, and a slew of other items. Great memories, great times, great concerts and great people; with the Pointer Sisters at the top of that list.
Glad to hear that the "noose" was replaced. The sisters have mentioned it in interviews but not in full detail as you have. That was a great concert and everyone looked like they had a great time. I hope you made a good profit. It seemed so hot in there.
Three exceptional singers, who have delighted us with their voice and presence for many years !!! Thank you very much, a big hug, far in the distance, but very close in the heart !!!
Love this. Anita picked it up after we lost June, and in about 08 or 09 in Michigan we saw them in Grand Rapids, MI. Anita sang it to my son who was 11 years old at the time. of course my kids knew all the words - the Sisters loved that they knew them all! LOL
Whew!!! Sing it ladies!!! I was blessed to see these awesome ladies twice in my lifetime. First time back in the 80's. And l can tell you firsthand, you did not sit down for one minute at a concert of the Pointer Sisters!
Another cool part is that I was living in Charlotte North Carolina at this time, what a neat show to see and of course it's great to see people of all colors just digging it together!!!
Awesome performance... These sisters were one of a kind: incredibly versatile, harmonizing yet somehow gritty, unpolished compared to other acts. Being sisters they also had such different voices... (damn, June sings the lead and is charming as hell when she gets carried away towards the final ad-libbing, but Anita had some guts here... Quite high notes with pretty good pitch, all on chest voice). Amazing trio.
The issue is is the key that song is in. I remember having that same problem when I used to sing in a band. The sound mixer really makes that big of a difference
My favorite Pointer Sisters song when I was younger, aside from AUTOMATIC. I use to love that. AS you get older your taste changes and I think I prefer Slow Hand now.
I could actually hear Anita on the lead on the verses, June had the ability to give the sweetness of Anita, the consistent power of Ruth throughout the song, and the dynamic grit of Bonnie.
See my beautiful lovely grandchildren don't ever let anybody tell you a different story I love you Grandpa loves you and he lives on in each and everyone of you love Grandma
Rapture folds sounds close to me, at least on the word SHY. There are a few notes off here and there, they actually sound flat to me (which I think is more common in live performances).
"Ling Dai Yu" means is a girl name.... She was not health always sick but she have good heart.... She love my husband n my husband love her too....many years they love each other but no marry. Now he divorced already so they can live together..... He really is good man that he'll look after girlfriend 1314 till end of life......
I love the pointer sisters, so very talented and sexy. I don’t want to come off sounding like a racist but I coulda sworn there was gonna be a brother playing the bass on this track. Cause it sounds like something Louis Johnson would groove out to. Not some average suburban white dude! Lol
They were the sharpest, sexiest, wisest, coolest female group of all time

Ya, they were sexy as hell. Just loved them.
100% I love them so much! Absolutely amazing. Somebody get going on a time machine Damn it!!

"We'd like to dedicate it to all the beautiful men out there."
We need this in 2021, more than ever.
but you better move in carefully lol
So sad 2 of them are gone. They were more than great. June was fantastic on that one.
THREE!
@@agfagaevart Yes, Bonnie died, as well as Anita and June. Only Ruth is still living.

Even without the racial connotation, the noose seemed a bit too strong. I'm glad to hear The Pointer Sisters had no problem with it, though.
Yeah, the noose wouldn't fly nowadays, the Sisters didn't care back then, just tells us how much times have changed
It was a better time back in the day when everyone didn't get their panties in a bunch over every little thing!
Tom, I think it's cool you came out to address this personally, so thank you. Those live bands must have been amazing.

Anita recorded it first but their producer Richard Perry changed his mind and had June record it, according to Ruth in her book.

The soprano of the group.

Beautiful classy ladies.
Great song!!! Great synth solo!!!
I love the synth solo
Does't the synth sound just like 1979 Doobie Brothers "What A Fool Believes"? Same kind of style, and perfect for the song
+Carol Lipton yes it does!
Carol Lipton similar yes.
Yeah it’s awesome. There’s some weird assed chords at the end of the solo too. Very jazzy...

What an act, you can see them belting them out at six years old
Great performance! I loved this song when new. This performance is from 1981 - not 1991.

Legends
Every live performane of this song I've heard, when they get to the chorus, "He's so shy," one of the girls sings "shy" sharp! Drives me nuts!
Rapture folds sounds close to me, at least on the word SHY. There are a few notes off here and there, they actually sound flat to me (which I think is more common in live performances).
Oh my God, now I realise why this song has been bugging me soooo hard for years 😂 Sounds like it's Anita's higher harmony slipping off slightly
That's the way the part (Ruth Pointer) on the high end was written. It IS a sharp part.
@@maitai1133 That is Anita not Ruth singing that sharp note on "shy."
@@orane3549 Anita sings low parts.

June was the spark
1981
The other thing I like is how June's overbite was similar to Freddie Mercury's. I think it's a cool feature.
When June pursed her lips with that overbite, she looked really cute.
Yes she did! She had sweet face and innocent look. Remember my mom and I listening to this when I was little. Happy times. Miss them. R.I.P. June 😢
