how to paint a car how to paint your car auto paint spray - Навчання та стиль
for a home job, this is really well done. One suggestion I gotta throw in is when masking the wheel openings, I've had success with back-taping the inner lip of the entire wheel opening, then sticking the paper/plastic to the tape. There's no overspray in the wheel opening and tire area & it just makes the job look more professional.
I was told to wet the floor before you spray that will keep the dust from getting on the car...
@Caden Zakai stfu
you did a good job. Too many pricks on here saying you did this wrong, you did that wrong, and probably have never tried to paint a car themselves. For a back yard job this is as good as it gets really. Great work man. You've given me the confidence to spray my project car. And probably many others..
Since it appears that you have never painted a car, how did you determine the OP is right, and the critics are wrong?? Perhaps they want to ensure you don't make mistakes they see here. I was looking for full color-change techniques promise in the title only to find half the important details are not even discussed! Why bother? And as someone who has painted vehicles--in and out of work --for 40 years, I GUARANTEE YOU there are far better videos out there for beginners.
@@FisherCatProductions Professional car painter for Audi / Volkswagen for 10+ years here, and i second this. The result on this car was average at best, and that is taking the setup and conditions into consideration. Lot of orange peel, and the painter not wearing proper protection is a big issue for me. Snorting paint fumes is not good for you.
I could of gotten a better finish with an undercoating/ rock guard gun.
Love that you actually gave a price of everything . Hate watching videos and never know how much a certain paint Job would cost
I’ll always keep this video I’m my liked videos… if it wasn’t for this video I wouldn’t have gotten through my practical exam for Automotive Body Repair in college without a hitch back in 2016… forever thankful!
Thanks for the video.had to change both pass doors due to a lil accident.i got both at junkyard for cheap but diff colors.i followed your steps & got them to match the color of my car silver.didnt have to pay an arm & leg but mostly was fun painting.next project are my rims & then my daughters car when she gets back from college. 👍👍
He was learning .. if you watch his other videos he is basically showing people as he learns.. he has come a long way since the start. At least he has taken the time to share. I think that’s a good effort for a beginner. Also this is Australia, you guys in US are used to much cheaper prices ... so 1000 respray is cheap for us for a good job compared to 3000
absolutely love the color, im thinking about doing some touch-ups on my car and maybe even a full repaint or recolor and you seem to really know what you're doing, so i think you've just earned another subscriber :D
@RAJSTA81 Hey thanks for watchin.. You might benefit from clearing black or a dark colour to give it some depth but otherwise there is no benefit to clearing a solid colour. Just sand it and buff it. It will look good.
@ugkistheclick Hy mate, thanks for watching. A good way to make sure the new colour isnt noticeable is to blend the paint. First use the grey scotchbrite with some flatting paste over the whole panel next to your newly painted parts. Then overlap the paint into the panel without going to the edge. Start small then spray a larger area with each coat. After 3 or 4 coats clear the whole panel. I will be doing a video on this but ill post a video reply of one that VG Auto Paints did.
@DJVERNONFLAYED hey thanks for watching. if they did f**k up their car ill be happy to take questions and get second and third opinions from people in the trade to help fix the problem.
Yes a swirl remover is a better option after using the cutting compound. It is a finer grade of compound that will remove scratches left from the first cutting compound. Then the polish should go on.
I've got a spare red s-pack EA Falcon sitting in the drive just begging for a birthday. I reckon this vid explains enough for me to give it it a go. Thanks Dave. Great job!
This is what UA-cam is all about sharing your knowledge. well done
Hey Dave. Great work on all your videos! They've helped me a lot when researching for spraying my car.
Im spraying my 98 civic hatch matt black. I've purchased 2K MS Filler Primer to prime my car. Today I sprayed my rear spoiler and noticed a good bit of overspray throughout the paint job, does this matter seeing as ill be wet sanding this with 800g sandpaper?
Great,VID,I aint every heard the process explained with such clear explinations, rather than "THE TEXT BOOK"explanations. My mind actually fully grasped it.
Thanks for the great video! I'm planning to paint my car soon and this helped heaps!
I needed this because I just bought an s14 and since it was a fully built drift missile, it didn't have some panels. So I had to mix and match and my car looked like a rainbow. Helped heaps mate.
What's with the 80s arcade game music? For a minute I found myself as Leonardo fighting the final boss on TMNT.
Tmnt mutant nightmares 2 on the gamecube oh my god the nostalgia
That is hilarious but so true lol
When I painted my motorcycle years ago, I thouroughly swept and washed the entire driveway (including the retaining wall). When I was ready to paint, I sprayed down the surrounding surfaces and bushes. I ran the risk of increasing moisture in the air, but it really helped trap dust and pollen.
There's nothing worse than getting something stuck in your first layer of clear, only to spot it after your third or fourth layer! Of course, a light sanding between layers helps, too.
@bigboy5998 use a 2pack matte finish. Either the sem hot rod black or the alsa soft feel clear. Using an acrylic matte finish will scuff really easily and can crack and fade over time. hope it goes well for ya.
Thanks for the video.. was on the fence about doing my jeep another color.. Think I'm gonna give it a shot.. Car looks mint..
Great video guys, thanks for the upload! So one man working on this for 4 hours a day would probably take a month to finish, damn.
Excellent video I ever watched on car painting! You give nice details in this video. Great job done. Regards,
always wear full face mask spraying clear due to isocyanides !! live another day bud.
@xcharles1 you can do everything the same but you only need to paint the outside of the car if the inside door jambs are in good enough condition.
@outdriving08 Hello,
Fill the dents before you apply the primer. Yes if its a solid colour you dont need a clear coat. Although its recommended to put one on.
This is an awesome video. I've been looking for something like this all weekend. They should just make your video the only one on the topic. Thanks man
V.g great videos giving us hope in spraying in our own pase and backyard love ur vids once again great vids
@thabliz77 it could have come out rough for a number of reasons maybe gun setup. Mixing ratios. Type of thinners. Also of its really hot the paint can almost dry as it hits the surface. Try wind in all the nozzles on your spray gun then wind the fluid out about 3 turns. The fan about 15cm wide and the air about 45psi use 60 parts thinners to 40 parts clear and do about 4 coats.Try sand back the car with 800g and give it another coat of color and clear. Dont dust it on try and be slow and smooth
Yes humidity could be a reason for that, it will eventually go away. You can sand with 800g wet and re apply the clear. If you can heat the cans in warm water before using the paint.
Bro your vids are top quality! These are so helpful, keep up the awesome work
Hello, yes wet sanded the car with 600g, using a suitable primer after that is the best option but paint will stick to the 600g sanded area.
Excellent! Thanks for giving all needed. This is really effective. Keep it up!
Love your videos, one question. If I want to remove clear coat from car with orbital sander, do I use wet or dry sanding discs and what grit? Second part of of question: what if I want to remove paint all the way to bare metal, do I use wet or dry sanding disc and what grit. Lastly where do i buy the wet sanding discs
@PureDeer95 this car is used for VG Auto Paints free lessons the students have a go buffing it and repairing and blending so its never really finished.
@remrusty This car is used in the Free Lessons that VG Auto Paints put on once a month. The rest of the car will slowly be buffed and purposely dented scratched and repaired and buffed over and over. I will be our Gemini and a full final product result will be shown in detail.
When i painted mine i baught 5 citronella candles lit them and put them around my car as it dried. It might sound stupid but it works.
@sweefu2 Because its a good car to practice on as I dont really care too much about it. Plus I needed a metallic finish as its better to show people how to blend on metallics in the free lessons that I organize.
Great video, thanks! Did you clear the jams as well before reinstalling the doors? Then just sand the over spray off the body before laying the final base? I'm not doing a color change, but the jams are in rough shape...
I've seen you use a little 8 gallon compressor, spraying, when it kicks on, do u lose a ton of air pressure or are u able to still spray consistently?
The gunman will show you how its done. The gunman best painting vids on the net hands down .
may i ask what kind of air compressor your running in this video? thanks :)
What primer do you use when painting car a different color with little to no imperfections on it and no bare metal.
Mario recommends compressor 2.7 hp fad 205 lpm with workquip gun that has a air consumption listed as 420lpm. Dos'nt match up yet there was'nt any problems with the job. Not doubting Mario's recommendation or work what am I missing or not understanding. From a diy beginner
Hey I use a sundstrom mask. VG Auto Paints have them they are in Sydney.
I have a question. I live in the us. On the title of your car it has the original color, and if u was to change it, do you have to go to the DMV and change it or can u just leave it?? some let me know.
As long as you get coverage with your paint and enough clearcoat on. You can always sand and buff it to look glossy and smooth. I have seen clearcoat that is really bad and you would think it needs to be redone. But a good sand and buff brought it up maaad.
what if I want to add stripes after the job is done? Do i have to sand the part im going to add the stripes to and then prep it, paint, gloss it and buff it and all that? doesnt that affect the paint around that area?
I have a mate with a white bonnet on a silver car which I might be spraying to match soon and will be using what i've learnt through your video's to do it. Gonna buy a cheapo panel from a scrap yard first though to practice on. Keep it up.
That can be caused by smashing on the clearcoat too heavy and not waiting 10 to 15min between coats. What is happening is the solvent is trying to escape and causing tiny pinholes as it does. By waiting longer between coats and applying a medium coat of clear should eliminate this problem. Hope this helps
@puntylicious @puntylicious the compressor was about $370 and it comes with an air hose a cheap spray gun a tyre inflator and a degreaser gun.
hi dave just wondering did you spray clear coat inside of the doors ?
dave. if i buff the car after couple of days isnt there going to be a shrinkage problem in the clear coat? love your vids ....
If I want to respray my car the same color, I assume i dont have to worry about the interior, taking doors off, etc... Just the outside. Do I have to sand it down to bare metal? or can I just go right over the original paint with the new paint and follow there? I do have a little rust on one side which will need to be sanded and repaired, i will have to do further research on how to fix that problem. Thanks.
when prep do i need to sand down the clear coat before the base coat
Great video! Artists at work and this is why I'll pay guys like you to spray my car instead of doing it myself...!
hi how do you clean the car after you sandet it, with hot wather and let it dry ore maby some acentone ?
First time I ever heard that clear coat is for metallic colors only. Is this true??? I've always used it no matter what, figuring it would protect the base coat.
If I wanted to paint my vehicle flat black how does that change the step by step?
Great job.
But one question; are the last steps with the clearcoat and wet sanding neccersary if you got for a matt color or non-metalic color? What exactly does the clearcoat?
For someone that enjoys working on their car and takes pride in a job they have done themselves, the price is worth it. Dont forget you will get to keep the compressor, the spray gun and the Buffing machine for future jobs. These items alone account for half the price mentioned.
what type of acrylic did you use? was it acrylic urethane? also did you have to sand the paint before applying clear coat?
Would you be able to give me the list of all the stuff I need to paint a car and tools please
when you are polishing your car how do you stop the buffer burns . i have the same buffer and set to 3 and not putting presser on the buffer. most of the pannels is great but every one so far iv had a few burns .
Can you just use a epoxy primer sealer but sand down vehicle with 320 first if painting a different color. Someone said to me on UA-cam to use a 2k filler primer too.
I agree I had a quote with my old Acura Integra and It was 3000 for the origional color. That was including to get all dents out and and everything too
Is acrylic best suited for long term? I need to paint my car, but it's going to have to last long enough 'till i can afford to get it painted properly.
-Sorry for spelling.
Hey, first of all thank you for the awesome videos, and second I'm thinking about repainting my car. This will be the first time for me to attempt something like this. could you please tell what type of compressor should I get. thnx
Great vids..One question when you are spraying undercoats you are using the workquip spray gun, then you switch to a walcom for the base & clear. Isn't the workquip with a 1.8 tip good enough?? I was thinking about buying the workquip but now I'm unsure because you seem to use the more expensive walcom unit in all the other vids. Cheers Shane
hi dave, for a respray, did you need to use a different primer on the bumpers(plastic) compared to the rest of the car, thanks
How many coats of clear? Is it best to do a light coat first then go heavy?
Just curious, is the amount of cutting/buffing needed for 2pac?
Once you use the cutting compound and buff will it not leave swirl marks all over the car? How does the swirl/polish remover reduce the appearance of these marks? Wont the polsh eventually wash off and reveal all the swirls?
Im not being critical ive just always wondered.
Loved the color and good tips. Thanks.
just a quick question. When u got the sander out, did you wizz up the whole car or just the door we see in the video? Am i correct in saying that you just wet sanded the whole car with 600???
Why take the doors off? Couldn't you accomplish the same thing with them on but open? Is it normal to not clear the door jambs?
fairplay to you mate dnt wrry bout haters .you keep bring these ideas to the nation.love this type of???? show lol
Great video mate, definitely makes it look doable!!
if the color is not white at first do you make it white then do the paint you want or what?
I really like these videos, tanks for sharing and I'm just wondering about spraying without a ventilated / filtering spray booth, is it unsafe? because I hear there's fumes coming from certain paints or thinners, it's why you need a respirator(or sometimes even a full body suit) can you tell me about that please.
U took off the doors but why not the signal light on the front fender? Or even paint the bumpers off the car?
do you have to clear coat and wet sand the inside of the doors?
Do you have to remove all paint ? Or just the clear cost layer?
Hey i recently sprayed my car and had the same question. what i did was use plastic primer on the plastic and then go over that and the whole car with regular primer before painting and it worked well :)
best spray painting tutorial online by far! quick question, how much was the compressor?
how come you guys paint with acrylic ? is there any specific reason? or just preference ? thanks!
Hi mate nice vid, I had a go at painting a door. I believe I'm doing some thing wrong because I used around 600ml of mixed acrylic at 55psi to do the just the front of the door. About the same for primer and clear too. Is that alot of paint for a door, Any suggestions?
Great video! I'm planning on buying a miata soon and will do this. How much was it just for the paint and sand paper?
after seeing this video I HAD to subscribe! your vids are so detailed and show the final outcome....I have a black car with a lot of rock chips and scratches to the front end...I was hoping to repaint the front end (hood, bumper and fenders) do you have any tips on blending the new paint to the existing OEM paint???? Im mainly worried about from the new paint on the fenders to the OEM paint on the doors.
im unsure about this but i only have a front yard and am wondering if the result will vary??
hey i was wondering if there was anyway i go get that list of stuff you got from the shop because im respraying my car
So, do you sand and then scuff? Or just scuff the places you didn't sand?
What is your opinion on duplicolor paint Is it good or bad
hey dave... would a 2.5 hp 40 litre compressor be suitable for this job on a small car? if not, what would be the bare minimum that i could use and still get a satisfactory result?
was there alot of dust and stuff in the air when you were paint and how do u think u can limit crap getting on the paint
Hey dude, great video. I'm up to spraying clear on my car. I did a small part just to make sure it turned out alright and i'm glad it did because i wound up with grey hazy patches all over it. Is that because i'm spraying it on too thin?
Great Video thanks, How many coats of clear ? and how long between coats ?
hey mate one of my cars has the paint starting to fade in the roof and a little on the hood. the paint is a metallic silver. what would the best thing you recommend. also the color looks good i was thinking of respraying my AU falcon Ute the same color, what's the color code for it
Can I just say a guide coat actually allows you to see high and low spots on the panel/substrate where it's dark is a low spot and where there is none it's high it helps when fully flatting of the panel
What did you use to buff up the paint after you sanded the clear coat? Brand?
