YES! thanks for coming out and for the great tips! These techniques really make a difference as I know first hand how much dust I usually get. What a difference! Thanks again Brian!

80 year old first time painter. Brian, I am a retired mechanical engineer with no experience in painting anything. After deciding to try a repaint on my wife's weathered Subaru I spent 3 days watching your videos, bought a gun you recommended and gave it a try. The result was an amazing paint job. I went into it with the confidence of all your years of experience and without that I don't think I would have even tried it. I felt as if I had been doing this for years. You are an exceptional teacher and your videos were invaluable. THANKS so much.
That’s so refreshing to hear your great success. I’m so happy for you! Thank you for sharing your message here
80 years old, cool man
Now just give it 1yr and you will know if you really did a good job lol
@@DTSupstateNY depends mainly on the paint you used rather than if you painted a surface incorrectly. overspray is a relatively common occurrence if you are inexperienced. which doesnt take a year to visually be noticed
@@PaintSociety I see you got 4 exhaust fans. Do you have any intake?
If UA-cam videos like this existed when I was a kid in the 80's I would have a wealth of knowledge and at least a Billion dollars. Thanks for the free education brother.
You can still become a billionaire thats no excuse. Your just using a what if, like if we younger people had it easier now days lmao. You had other ways to learn back in the day and you still didnt do it
@@streamerclips6502 You walked in my shoes did you?🤌
@@streamerclips6502 Excuse? What excuse?
@streamerclips6502 well considering the 80s was over 40 years ago unless this guy is working into his 80s/90s then that metric cannot be used. Wealth is built on compounding interest and investment. So yeah, it isn't actually an excuse. It makes sense. If u knew how to build wealth you would understand that
You could walk into any auto shop and ask them how they do it. You can buy books that teach you how to do it. Theres lots of resources.
"Don't overthink it - It's just paint" - From his tag line to his teaching style, tips, tricks, and even demeanor, Brian gives me the confidence that I can do that!! My daughter and I are working on a project car, and once it's running and all of the mechanical bugs are worked out, I'm going to paint it with the inspiration from these Paint Society vids!!
aw, the dog dropping the ball to play at 5 minutes was cute.
Was looking for a mention of the dog
i watched the entire vid and they end up playin with the dog. made my night
I called my wife to see that garage ball drop. Our Border Collie chases the hose as well. Just installed the compressor - should be painting within a week - you've helped a lot!
I went to school for collision repair and 7 years later I’ve forgot everything I learned except for the welding portion. Really helped to get a refresher before I try to tackle a project on my own.
Do you need a professional who works in this field?
Been painting for decades in my garage but I still appreciate your videos because at only 1 or 2 a year the tips and tricks keep me fresh for the next one. Thanks for your hard work.
So cool to see UA-camrs collaborate together. I enjoy watching this and BoostedBoiz
So it's cool to see you work on familiar cars to us the viewers
The perfect video for most of your viewers, probably your BEST yet. Excellent tips to eliminate dust. I know when I first attempted my whole side repair and respray after watching your videos I spent longer than needed wet sanding the nibs, but still with a great result. Once again your videos are helping people put around the world🇦🇺
Thanks! I put a lot of info in this one. Going to try and get back to these type of videos
@@PaintSociety These videos are awesome, I’m travelling the West Coast 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦 on holidays and still watching! Keep them coming mate 🤙🏻 🇦🇺
I just wanted to let you know, i appreciate all your tips on blending. I was first introduced to painting cars, by my neighbor back when i was 11, in '81. I had never attemted a blend, always did a full panel. I did my first blend this week after watching your videos. Turned out fantastic. Thank you!
That’s awesome. Thanks for sharing !!
Hi Brian, I am not a painter and just by watching your painting videos, i know i can stop giving my car for painting.at home. You made it so simple. Thanks for your time in making the videos. Much appreciated.
I've followed Brian for a few years now, and as helped me over here in the UK via his channel to paint my van and small cars. Next up is my range rover sport,
Just listen to him and follow what he's says 👍
I saw a write up of how to properly paint a car with rollers. It actually came out crazy nice with a mirror finish on it.
Hands down the most complete video’s I’ve come across for beginners, and experienced people im sure. Thank you for putting this together. I am excited to get started on my F150 wide body kit.
I’ve been painting 30 years and I’d still like to work along side this guy! He’s friendly about his knowledge rather than a “know it all” with it.
I’m about to change shops and I hope the next guys are good people too ;/ it can be nerve wracking even after all these years !
I'm only 5 mins in and already have so many tips to add to my list. This is like a toy box for anyone wanting to do the stuff the right way.
Just wanted to say as someone really just starting to think about painting a vehicle its nice to see a fairly in depth at home type video for this. Painting can be pretty intimidating and this video was quite helpful. The sealer vs no sealer was a question I had floating around my head so it was nice to see an explanation on that. Thanks for the video.
I didn't completely follow the reasoning behind primer being better than seal for the inexperienced. Any idea? Seems like sealer is just a short cut to save a day of cure time/sanding but the function is the same? I'm wondering what an inexperienced person (me) is likely to do better with primer or screw up with sealer.
@@mattbush315did you ever get an answer to this?
@@jackwright3098unfortunately not
I'm going to start studying mechanics/body work and painting next year and for sure that I'm going to watch all your videos to be even better at it. Love that some people take their time and effort to make this kind of incredibly useful and educational videos and put them up for free for everyone to enjoy and learn. Thanks man 😊
Your technical explanation behind these videos is great. I say the same thing for clear first coat just get a full seal, then second coat go for the wet wet finish.
Oh yea. Some paint companies say spray the first coat the way you want it to look finished but honestly that’s not really practical. I believe the reason behind it is because they want the mil build.
@@PaintSociety most of our clears over here at speedokote they only recommend 2 medium coats. I've done up to 4 coats with the smr42(42% solids) but that's only beneficial if you plan on doing heavy wet sanding and polishing. At the end of the day it's really all down to the user!
The most interesting aspect before painting is sanding and surface prep. That I would love to see and to learn about. Preparation is key for a successful painting process.
Subscribe to his channel, he has great videos on sanding and prep
Dude! THANK YOU! you saved me probably hours of cursing and yelling . Like one of the previous post said , your videos made me feel like I have been doing this for 20yrs . And pretending like I know what I was doing to my buddy . I opted to go with the hose route because I don't plan on painting again and it worked perfect .
Thanks for the walkthrough. I'll be sure to remember the overlapping on that clearcoat - I have used no professional products yet (all rattlecan ) so my results have been always subpar. And I'm looking forward to building myself a dropcloth paintbooth in this new garage that comes with my new house!
I'm same, 80yrs and starting into a job on small car. Done a couple before but sure am learning from you experienced guys. Not many people have hands practical experience
I've been timid about paint, but your videos break down the process and give me the confidence to try. Love the content keep it coming.
Just go for it don’t think to much of it, I just painted my first truck and it came out really good! Make sure to get a decent gun it don’t got to be too tier but get a decent one that can throw base and clear good
top*
Was just thinking this
@@Jorge_Reckless what do you use?
@@roguethefox4504 I use the black widow from harbor freight, it lays down the paint really good and it don't throw out too much paint making it beginner friendly since it wont cause runs as long as you keep moving
Thanks for the time and effort of sharing this! I’ve done some restoration to trailers and farm equipment and mostly mechanical repairs. I’ve painted houses professionally, but never auto. Wanting to do my Avalanche, and this gives me the motivation that I can save quite a bit just doing it myself. We live on a farm with dirt roads, so gotta remember *clean*clean*clean* lol
Thanks for sharing these incredibly resourceful videos. Paint correction guys like myself who often deal with cutting and polishing resprays can really benefit from understanding the process and products involved in the paint they're working on. Understanding substrates, primer/sealers, and variations of base colors, solvents, and hardeners is important even for the guys who aren't doing the actual painting. Knowing what you're working with helps in deciding what approach is the most efficient and effective at improving the paint finish after a respray. Factors like environment temp, hardener types, and time between coats that play a role with issues like solvent pop/pinholes/fisheyes can be a real source of frustration when the issues can't be resolved. Excessive texture and shrinkage/diebacking in the top coat can often be fixed but these types of issues could have been avoided with the proper technique and knowledge as you've shown. Understanding how many coats and how to lay down thicker high solids vs thinner low solids and knowing how to reduce the dust in a spray environment means less finishing work after the paint job. The little tricks you mentioned like making your work environment wet to avoid dust and extending the flash time when waiting for a 3rd coat can be huge in getting the finish looking as clean and flat as can be right off the gun. No one wants to spend countless hours with multiple stages of sanding, denibbing, removing runs, etc when it can be avoided in the booth.
I've been wanting to paint my own car for years but never felt like I had the adequate skills. This will help in my painting endeavor.
You really know your craft, explain things so well, put out such watchable videos. BodeVision was a great collaboration, I like to see UA-camrs travel and interact. It's like adding resolution to the video, you see more.
I am 55 yrs old. Never spent time in paint shop.tried teaching myself a couple times over the years. Lots of videos. But the wrong teachers. Plus too many variables. I just felt like if i could just be baby sitted by a pro just once i couple hv some success. Your that guy. Im ready to try again
That is awesome!
I love the collaboration. You guys are from around my hometown from the areas I see in other videos. These videos helped me paint my car recently and even start a small business. Good stuff and keep it up
Goodness your a awesome painter I sure Wish I could get u to paint my 88 5.0 mustang coupe keep up the good content thanks
Love the video! I would definitely recommend not using as much plastic for masking due to how much it moves. I find it kicks up dust and particles. Other than that I think it's an awesome job.
Bro I've been painting for over 25 years I've painted everything from cars motorcycles boats airplanes to homes and I couldn't have done a better job.looks amazing. Sometimes I think I know it all but I love your channel cause I've learned several things from you that I did not know b4. You've showed me several tricks and pointers that help me out all the time. Thanks brother I appreciate you.
Brilliant final result and excellent instructions along the way. I like the way that you teach with a humble attitude and yet clearly know your trade inside out. 👍
I appreciate you going into detail on cleaning using sprayaway and wax and grease remover, plus having a super clean spray area. When I saw you use water to do the final sanding,I picture a few drops of water here and there that will pop out when spraying the sealer. Very well done!
I just wanna say thank you for taking the time to share you knowledge and for making these outstanding videos. Its truly inspiring. Ive been a subscriber for years. Keep up the great work! 💪
First time painter. Thank you for the videos. I painted a 67 Mustang coupe by watching your videos and using your advice. I’ve gotten tons of comments on the paint.
You know what, half way threw I realized I’m not going to be able to pull this off by myself and the rest of the video is kinda pointless to watch but the way you explained everything & laid out all the details of what to’s & what nots…I ended up watching the whole video and learning a whole lot. Thank you for the crash course and one day I’ll get the balls to do this on my own…for now I got a friend who does painting in his garage so I’ll see if he can help me threw the process. 🙏
Another most informative and enjoyable master class in painting. Brian, you are indeed an exceptional teacher my friend. Thank you and to Bode V for the demonstration of skill and patience. Just fabulous. Oh! Almost to mention, your home set up is rather excellent too! All the very best to you and yours fella. John
Im super glad that you like to teach and instruct others because it would be a shame for your thoroughness to go to waste. thanks
The learning definitely doesn't stop when the video ends keep it coming man Master at work you make it look so easy
You guys make it look easy, I painted my truck a few years back, it did it come out as expected but I want to try again hopefully the next time it will come out better.
21:22 (I had already worked for over a year in a high production shop prepping airport ground support equipment) I'm blown away at how thorough this instructor is. I worked for a Maaco way back in the 1990's for new franchise owners and they were really gung-ho on providing training for us young guys. Those trainers were thorough like this and I think we all came away with a good working knowledge of how to do our jobs prepping cars for the booth. Excellent video!
I took once worked at maaco( although I usually won't admit it.. hopefully you learned by now that maaco is a cheap paint job and doesn't last very long. The way that Brian does things is the way to follow. Brian's process is very thorough and high quality paint job which will last a long time, not trying to be negative about your experience, just wanted to make sure you know there's a huge difference between the two.
@@jvstang69 that was an unhelpful unnecessary comment from you.
Thanks for the tips and tricks once again. And a reality check to anyone that thinks it’s a one day deal like a weekend TV show. I did my 1965 Shelby AC Cobra this way and it had only one minor issue due to we kept the door open. I’ve learned a lot and knew a little already.
The VIDEO that all should watch! Great instructional
I don’t usually watch videos that are over +30 minutes but damn Brian you are amazing and this looks amazing.. Thank you for this project and the great tips!!
Whatched this series and alot of paintnsociety videos decided to finally suck it up and give it a shot on my car starting with the engine bay. Not only did it come out great, but have me the confidence to do the whole car.
Great Vid! Paint looks awesome, really grateful to have you guys sharing the knowledge.
Wow. Great thanks. I will eventually be doing my own Chrysler after 3 yrs of amateur panel work on it. I'm nervous as hell but this video is just what I need. Thanks again!
I believe it does matter what order you add your reducer and hardener. I was always taught hardener first then reducer. The ratios can vary between the two and you wanna make sure your mixture is properly incorporated
Really depends. Check the TDS, most will tell you specifically what order to mix. Some products need to be thinned prior to activated and vice versa.
Thanks for the tips I am painting our 97Riviera and the tip that helped me the most was do not stop ...go all the way across the part. I did silver then a annodize blue ,stopping and starting will give a dark spot, hard to learn and remember. But was the key. Thanks again
5:14 Doggy was like, "Hey guys look at this cool ball I brought!"
I wanted to see if they got it for him. Yes they did lol.
i have been working at an automotive paint distribution shop mixing and delivering ppg paint for a year and a half and sometimes dont have answers to some of the questions people ask me this video was extremely informative for me because ive been curious in starting to do it since i feel like i know enough about the paint and what goes in it and mixing it enough to maybe one day start doing it if i can get enough practice in later in life. thank you for the awesome video bro
Retired brick mason here. I painted my truck with a roller and a foam brush, good enough!
Watching your videos for a few years now has improved my rattle can skills big time lol cant wait to get a gun and start painting the right way
This video is very informative!
It’s one of my best ! Alot of work into this one.
Painting a roof and hood on 2015 camry in the morning. Base clear. Just watched your video for education. Thanks. Very helpful!
Just a regular garage with 3 giant fans in the wall
I'm not really interested in painting my car myself, but this gave a good understanding about painting
Now I need a video about how to paint a car with no car.
So, im currently working on my first project car and ive decided its going to be a DIY project. Its a 2002 Honda Accord SE. Its going to be a Hoonigan Tribute, thank you so much for the detailed educational video! Keep doing what you do!
I can't afford a thousand-dollar dust collector so I sand my vehicles outside, if it is windy you don't need a respirator.
You always want use a respirator
Always need a respirator. Always.🤦♂️
Respirator. Always.
Respirators are cheap... 50$ can get you a 3M facemask with eye shield that is so good it's like normal breathing. I don't see why 50$ would be a sticking point when the paint alone will cost more than that not including the sanding tools and more.
Tools can get added or replaced. Lungs cannot. Protect them.
I like what you said at the end. Don't overthink it, it's just paint. I'm nervous about painting my own car but when I'm doing metalwork (my preference) and my brother is helping with the welding he gets a bit nervous. I tell him it's just sheet metal, no big deal. So what you said helps me going in with the thought of painting my car.
And I noticed you didn't tack off the masking on the windows. That would hold dust so I'm curious why not.
Great video. I learned alot. Thanks!
What a great channel and what a great teacher you are! I’ve just found you from a car garage channel with 800 subscribers where someone suggested you in the comments, love UA-cam. I rebuild salvage vehicles in the U.K. and paint costs me loads as I don’t have a spray booth yet. This year I will be building one and these videos are going to be absolutely essential to any success, thank you man!
OUTSTANDING VIDEO! THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE IT! I was a painter's helper ago and been an Electrician ever since. Your video filled in the gaps in my memory and probably showed me 1 or 2 new things to help me paint my classic Chevy truck. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of my supplies to arrive. Wish i was able to post a picture of her here when im done....
God bless!!!
His words and instruction flow as well as the coats of paint, Wow what an educator. I have Red 01 Accord I want do this to, this video may be the kick in the ass I need, instead of Maaco.
Thank You So Much!!!
Wow! As the video went on, i slowly realized that it was in fact, Kyle's civic!!
Great job guys !
Excellent tutorial. Don't know if I will ever paint a car at home. But now I know what it takes.
I’m spraying my car now starting with the bumper had the base coat down to a tea but messed the clear coat up I’ve got a quite a bit of orange peel bud after watching your vidz I realised I didn’t have it on the right settings the droplets were to big so I’m sanding it down now and will go again this weekend thanks to your videos I’ve learnt hell of a lot the guns set up properly now but I’m going to buy a different one for the clear coat I want it spray as light as possible thank you for these vids giving me the confidence to spray my car rather than pay someone, I’m not worried about a perfect finish as long as it passable I’ll be happy you’re a god send 🎉
You literally did such a good job with this video that I could smell the paint that you where applying. Great job.
Finally a great painter that knows how to explain well this vedio cover's it all
Good video guys, I painted my car in the garage and I wish I knew about that stuff you sprayed on the floor would have saved me a lot of buffing time. Thanks.

thanks for a beginner like me it makes all the difference to have someone actually take the time to show me how to do this, i want to paint my 2005 GMC Duramax. Jenny
Basically it can be done at home, it's more work but worth it. I also hang new plastic sheet on ceiling and long wall cause body/prep/paint all in the same space. Good info here thx

You might do a video for home, hot rod builders. We do everything in stages over a long period of time usually a year or two or in my case 30 years starting with bare metal prep two primers things have changed so much from when I started my project to now, I started out using etching primer now it seems like everybody goes to epoxy primer I’ve got so many different layers of stuff over the years. I’m afraid when I paint it. It’s all gonna bubble up. I’m gonna have a mess. I’m hoping that when I’m ready to paint I can send it all seal it and it will all work out when it comes to painting, on my own worst enemy I have a little patience that’s one thing about your videos. You are so patient and calm you make it look easy thanks for your videos. They really do help her and especially with my mind set.
Thank you for the time energy and effort you put into teaching people like me( in experienced painter) the tips and tricks to get better at pairing my car. Like most of your subscribers. I have no intention on doing this for a living. But being able to bring my car back to life and feel good about driving and knowing I was able to do this. Make for a very happy car guy! Thanks again for your excellent videos
Thanks a lot. I am not a painter but these tips will help me to be able to paint my wife's SUV. I hope I will be able to share the before and the after when done.
I'm teaching myself how to paint and do bodywork and your videos have really help me understand the process...Thank you for your videos!!
Thanks for all cleaning tips even around the car. Taping techniques will help us DIYERS. Always learn important steps on your videos.😊😋😅😄❤️
I really like how you emphasize making your environment clean because that is one of the most important parts and often overlooked as well as the time of day because bugs seem to be attracted to fresh paint of any kind - bugs are bad for paint jobs lol.
I use a side bucket with a dab of soap to give me an extra lubed dip if I wish to use it, works good when you are sanding near critical body lines without a block, by hand, to get surgical. It will help your sandpaper last longer and keep the surface clean.
That’s incredible, with just the first clear coat? Wow!
SO about 8 months ago i said i would love to work in a paint shop. So i did and i gotta say I absolutely... hated it. LOL being on commission and only being the R&I guy sucks .. I literally lost about 3k in 7 months. From optioning to skip a week or 2 or 5 w/o pay and load it up on the following week..Money is good when you get it. But over all i 100% hate the pay system and wouldn't go back not even to be a "paint" helper BUT i plan on doing this on my own vehicles and your videos help refresh my I-car training i got at my local community College
Brian, that's about the best video for explaining the whole process. Thanks for the time you put in. Maybe some paper on the garage floor to keep any overspray and dust from bouncing up when near the bottom of the car panels.
I have an 87 F150 that is in decent shape, one little rust hole on the bed above the wheel well, but tons of surface rust. I’m thinking I might take on this as a project for it. Great and informative video.
I personally would never do any paint work without a sealer especially on a complete, if for no other reason a sealer will be your best bet to prevent die back, and always use the slowest reducer and hardener you can on a complete, I also many times would use a tack rag, very gently, on the masking areas of the windows, on today's modern high build clears a third coat can actually cause surface defects and really isn't needed, but always read the paint manufacturers application procedures and don't mix different paint brands together if possible, try and use the materials within a brands system, that job came out pretty nice for being in a garage with no filtered intake air, it's a good thing that was a small car, not enough room for anything bigger, every one of your tips is spot on and you gave a lot of very important information in this video, this has to be the best channel on UA-cam for people wanting to get in to automotive refinishing.
Excellent info! Thank you. Getting ready to do a 91 CRX. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I want to do my lifted 99 crv. Good luck

@@oaktree9791 what color you going with?
nice, one thing that could be added to the explanation might be lightning, if you don't have enough you don't have reflections and it might be difficult to see where you are putting clear on or dust particles when cleaning it
Brilliant video. I’ve done a few little body repairs in the past but I’ve never had someone explain how to paint as well as that. 👍🏻
A phenomenal job, what an outstanding teaching lesson you did, amazing from start to finish, even though I paint little things before and never painted a whole car, with your outstanding teaching technic made me feel confident that I can do a whole car, thank you so much again an outstanding teaching point and lesson given to all of us out there.
That 3M tape you used for pulling up the rubber is a really good idea. Thanks for the tip.
Perfect lessons Brian! Thanks. Little details like after applying wax remover, let it sit and do it's job on lifting the contaminants on top before wiping. Those make these videos!
I swear if I attempted to spray that much clear, my car would look the the ending credits of goosebumps lol much respect
Thank you Brian for your tips. Been following your channel and I kinda realised you don't do wet sanding! At a vocational training I went through, the moment you reach 200 grit you now introduce wet sanding all the way up. Kindly fill me up on this. It will improve my skills 👍
Finally! A UA-cam video that uses a good camera and wireless lav! This video was professionally produced and very much appreciated. I subscribed because you guys do it right. So well shot and explained and I actually heard every word! Great job all the way around and can’t wait to do my first paint job!

Plan on repainting my father and I project car this is a perfect video to get me started !
Great video. One small tip or advise would be make sure you got enough paint whilst spraying, I seen a UA-cam spraying his car and he ran out of paint so ended up with all sorts of troubles, lol.
"If you think you've blown enough, go ahead and blow it one more time" - words to live by.
