Honestly, I never believed Oda would kill off a character or have them leave the crew for a second. It's one thing for side characters like Vivi who aren't really 'official' members, but there's no way the story would allow them to just lose Usopp for good or something. That's just not the tone this story was ever going for.

So, i saw in the anime theese sections twice without LRLL, and the Things coming after LRLL Hit even without having Seen it. Now i have watched it and must say, it's better with than without.

But Water 7 introduced a different fear that I'd never thought about. Largely with Zoro's comment near the end about leaving if Luffy faltered. Luffy champions freedom, as soon as your dream puts you on another path, he's not ever standing in your way. Having made it through Water 7 I now know that we'll not lose a crewmember to anything less than death (which I am terrified will be coming at some point.) But I know that because of what Luffy went through in that arc, and how he grew.
It's very likely, actually. It's been theorized by the community for a long time that the Davy back fight will come back, possibly during the shanks arc. Its important to also remember that the Davy back fight originated in hachinosu and likely is how rox created his godlike crew.
I've had a little bit of a headcanon that somehow Foxy will be involved whenever they actually decide to take down Kizaru, because besides maybe the Darkness fruit, Foxy's power would be the most helpful against his lightspeed bs. ... well, that's Foxy and not really LRLL, but as far as things introduced here...

I loved the introduction of Aokiji. He's such a goof but also terrifying. I’m here for the Harry Potter shit-talking. The one thing I hate about Harry Potter is that if you stare at the worldbuilding too hard, it completely falls apart. Also, UA-camr MelonTeee had a great video about the Zoro and Sanji “lend me a hand for ten seconds” moment. I highly recommend it. Though I can’t remember if it has any spoilers.

Ehh, honestly, I'm fine with Harry Potter's worldbuilding. There's just so many assumptions you have to make about things in the first place just to justify a secret magical world that it's really not hard to look past stuff like "Why are they using owls instead of the teleporting fireplaces" or whatever. You could probably BS answers if you try hard enough, but at the end of the day stuff like the love potion being messed up just isn't really relevant to the story, so it's not a huge deal. The Time Turners were always super dumb, though, and Rowling REALLY needed to figure out way better limits on those outside of just "We put them all on one shelf and they all broke so can't use them for the biggest battle in the Wizarding World ever." That's unironically just one of the dumbest justifications to get rid of a McGuffin I think I've ever seen.
I dislike having to wait for corkboard corner, its the best most insightful part of your Teacher Mom finding the One piece, its special that it exists apart of the video, if you make a playlist of all these, please dont cut out the big brain stuff.
I think people don't like it mostly because of the anime. There was so much filter before and during skypia that long ring feels so unnecessary and long when the excitement of getting to the next arc ife to high. The itch for a low a fun arc is so low after all that filler
I think the biggest problem with L3R is the stakes. It's hard to see Foxy and co. as legitamate threats after Skypeia. If the games were just for fun, it matches the tone of the arc better. Not only did they add tons of filler, they also removed the most pivotal scenes from the Arc and moved them back to another filler arc aka the fight with Aokiji and the early sign of the crew falling apart before W7. Imagine any ending of an arc being removed and added to a filler arc later. It would totally ruin the momentum the arc has.
yeah, it's a nice arc. Nothing grandiose like the best ones, but we meet Aokiji, learn a few things and have some fun battles in the competition, ending with the great Afro Luffy. It's a solid fun arc
Personally, I'm not a big fan due to the way the cheating happens. Just the setup where one side is obviously cheating but if the other side tries they get shafted really annoys me, especially in this context where they have people like Nami and Robin who should've been able to figure out a better solution very easily. I've grown to appreciate it, but my first read it felt like a letdown after Skypiea.
as someone who read the manga, i loved this arc, it was short and sweet and was a nice break from the action packed skypiea and the soon to come emotional water 7 and ennies lobby.
I think the fact that the first antagonist ahead of people like Crocodile and Enel to get in a top 5 spot, let alone top 1 one is freaken Foxy is awesome and I love it lmao. Ipersonally always loved Foxy so I'm very happy.
Long ring isn’t bad at all, it does a lot of setup with the strawhat’s relationships with each other for what comes after. The only bad thing about it is that it’s inbetween two s tier arcs
I think what makes Foxy is interesting is that, unlike most other villains, his crew seem to genuinely like working under him. He doesn't bully them or make them serve through incentives or fear, they jsut seem to be friends as well as fairly chill dudes when not doing any villainy. The foxy pirates are oddly likable despite being cheating assholes who hurt horses.
I somewhat question that since part of the rules of the Davy Back Fight states that the winner’s new crewmate(s) must completely cut ties with their old crew, right? I could be misremembering.
The Foxy Pirates are some of the realest pirates out there. They have honor, live freely, sail the Grand Line and they have a blast being a crew. They’re doing it right. Dinky crews like the Blackbeard Pirates WISH they had half the piracy chops Foxy and Crew have.

Long Ring Long Land is a quality arc for what its meant to be. A break for Oda and the cast. An easy opponent because there's ways for pirates to succeed beyond brute strength. And setting up certain themes that build up and coalesce to what makes the next arcs memorable.
Mild spoilers: I never noticed that Afro Luffy had a flaming skull on his chest. Could be a coincidence but it’s interesting that the Rocks Pirates’ Jolly Roger is also a flaming skull and there’s been a lot of speculation that they were formed through Davy Back Fights. Not sure if people still think that but I remember seeing people say that a couple years ago. Could be nothing though
I always loved this arc even more than G8. Although, I did experience the anime sorta backwards from a certain jail (it kept giving me reasons to check back on earlier arcs - like with Noro Noro beam) I was always afraid of Foxy more than Crocodile & Eneru, too !!

I haven’t started watching this video yet, but I’ve been following Momma Drawk’s reviews and was VERY happy to see the thumb nail. I LOVE Foxy, I know I’m in the minority, but I found him hilarious and was shocked when I learned just how hated he is in the community. I often say that the stretch from Water7 to Marine Ford is the best one piece has to offer, and this mini arc is that sweet reminder that it’s about to start.

just a reminder, when you have two number threes, you can't have a number four. also the main reason why fans don't much care for foxxy is because they dragged this whole arc out like crazy in the anime., which was hell for weekly watchers, he's much easier to enjoy when you're binge reading the manga.
Even if it's only this one time, this one earned a mushroom. The way it slaps you in the face with Chopper being lost to another crew and the emotional weight it puts on him, it would be insult to his resolve, and Luffy's determination to win him back.
As a prior anime only watcher, I found the arc in the manga so so much better. it did not overstay it's welcome. But it did take me some time to get through it
It's good to have some parts of the story like this that gives the larger plot some breathing room. Like, if they went straight from Skypeia to Water 7, then there's only the one big adventure between Robin joining and [20-year-old spoiler warning] temporarily leaving - which would cheapen the latter. It's also just...not realistic that everything that happens happens to be super plot-relevant. And of course, as you said, it's nice to get some more character moments and expand the setting a bit. Not everything has to be part of the clockwork of a plot, you can have some stuff that's just vibes.
Just so you know, I probably won't watch the cork board corner video because I'll watch it on the stream immediately after, which isn't a big deal, but if a lot of people do that it might hurt the analytics? Anyway, I don't mind the format change or anything.

Foxy gang rise up! I have a special place in my heart for the Foxy Pirates. Being a crew on the Grand Line that challenges folks to games of variety and skill, the pageantry of it is so cool. To me it helps widen the world of One Piece and broadens the very concept of what a pirate can be.
The main reason I believe people don't think LRLL matters is because it's not clear why it matters at the time. It is the first part of the CP9 arc just as Reverse Mountain is for the Baroque Works arc. But where there Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday are introduced and it leads right into Whiskey Peak, LRLL just feels like a random aside with characters and a setting that don't come back. LLRL really emphasizes the state of Merry and the need of shipright and plants the seed of how devastating losing a crewmate can be in a comedic setting so it really hurts in a serious one. Plus, you know, Aokiji kinda just directly sets up the arc and I feel like people just forget or gloss over this.
Your pronunciation of Akainu is correct. The name is composed by Aka- whih means red and -inu which means dog. Aokiji, on the other hand is composed by Ao- (blue) and -kiji (pheasant), and every admiral has a name asociated with the chinese horoscope calendar and a colour.
I think the problem that a lot of people had with Long Ring Long Land was that they saw the goated filler G8 before that, which actually does what LRLL was supposed to do as a more fun arc.
Long ring Long Island has my big for the funniest arc by far. It’s got silly moments and fun fights and I truly do not know why people don’t like this arc

I LOVED the early episode of this, and I still love his Mom's thoughts -- I just wish Drawk had some more energy as a host. The best parts are when these two play off each other and laugh a bunch

I feel like the Davey Back fight must be an idea from One Piece's infancy that didn't really fit into what One Piece became. I think the whole concept could be really cool in a different manga. I just don't think it fits in One Piece at all. Oda could have made long long ring land itself more substantial and dropped the davey back fight. The main reason for this is of course that the davey back fight is characterized as a pirate staple, something common. But it is never ever seen again. And I do not believe the people saying it will come back with shanks or whatever.

I somewhat question that since part of the rules of the Davy Back Fight states that the winner’s new crewmate(s) must completely cut ties with their old crew, right? I could be misremembering.
The Foxy Pirates are some of the realest pirates out there. They have honor, live freely, sail the Grand Line and they have a blast being a crew. They’re doing it right. Dinky crews like the Blackbeard Pirates WISH they had half the piracy chops Foxy and Crew have.
I spent two hours in the middle of the night, last night trying to convince a gas station attendant to read One Piece and I thought of Mamma Drawk while I did!

Long Ring Long Land is a quality arc for what its meant to be. A break for Oda and the cast. An easy opponent because there's ways for pirates to succeed beyond brute strength. And setting up certain themes that build up and coalesce to what makes the next arcs memorable.

I never noticed that Afro Luffy had a flaming skull on his chest. Could be a coincidence but it’s interesting that the Rocks Pirates’ Jolly Roger is also a flaming skull and there’s been a lot of speculation that they were formed through Davy Back Fights. Not sure if people still think that but I remember seeing people say that a couple years ago. Could be nothing though

I always loved this arc even more than G8. Although, I did experience the anime sorta backwards from a certain jail (it kept giving me reasons to check back on earlier arcs - like with Noro Noro beam)

I haven’t started watching this video yet, but I’ve been following Momma Drawk’s reviews and was VERY happy to see the thumb nail. I LOVE Foxy, I know I’m in the minority, but I found him hilarious and was shocked when I learned just how hated he is in the community. I often say that the stretch from Water7 to Marine Ford is the best one piece has to offer, and this mini arc is that sweet reminder that it’s about to start.
Came back after watching, what a rollercoaster. Glad they saw some of what I did about him as a character.

also the main reason why fans don't much care for foxxy is because they dragged this whole arc out like crazy in the anime., which was hell for weekly watchers, he's much easier to enjoy when you're binge reading the manga.

The way it slaps you in the face with Chopper being lost to another crew and the emotional weight it puts on him, it would be insult to his resolve, and Luffy's determination to win him back.
As a prior anime only watcher, I found the arc in the manga so so much better. it did not overstay it's welcome. But it did take me some time to get through it

It's good to have some parts of the story like this that gives the larger plot some breathing room. Like, if they went straight from Skypeia to Water 7, then there's only the one big adventure between Robin joining and [20-year-old spoiler warning] temporarily leaving - which would cheapen the latter. It's also just...not realistic that everything that happens happens to be super plot-relevant. And of course, as you said, it's nice to get some more character moments and expand the setting a bit. Not everything has to be part of the clockwork of a plot, you can have some stuff that's just vibes.
Would be nice, if you would mark the spoilers or keep it spoiler free. Nonetheless, what you said is totally right.

I have a special place in my heart for the Foxy Pirates. Being a crew on the Grand Line that challenges folks to games of variety and skill, the pageantry of it is so cool. To me it helps widen the world of One Piece and broadens the very concept of what a pirate can be.

The main reason I believe people don't think LRLL matters is because it's not clear why it matters at the time. It is the first part of the CP9 arc just as Reverse Mountain is for the Baroque Works arc.
But where there Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday are introduced and it leads right into Whiskey Peak, LRLL just feels like a random aside with characters and a setting that don't come back.
LLRL really emphasizes the state of Merry and the need of shipright and plants the seed of how devastating losing a crewmate can be in a comedic setting so it really hurts in a serious one. Plus, you know, Aokiji kinda just directly sets up the arc and I feel like people just forget or gloss over this.

I think the problem that a lot of people had with Long Ring Long Land was that they saw the goated filler G8 before that, which actually does what LRLL was supposed to do as a more fun arc.
Long ring Long Island has my big for the funniest arc by far. It’s got silly moments and fun fights and I truly do not know why people don’t like this arc

I feel like the Davey Back fight must be an idea from One Piece's infancy that didn't really fit into what One Piece became.
I think the whole concept could be really cool in a different manga. I just don't think it fits in One Piece at all. Oda could have made long long ring land itself more substantial and dropped the davey back fight.
The main reason for this is of course that the davey back fight is characterized as a pirate staple, something common. But it is never ever seen again.
And I do not believe the people saying it will come back with shanks or whatever.
