"Toon force" might as well be misunderstanding of western cartoons from the perspective of yugioh fans. What you call "toon force" is mearly wit and slapstick taken to extremes. The difference is that the performer is what matters not the stage. Who's on first works televised as well as on radio. Space Jam tells you one thing and shows you another. MJ is the only one who understands himself, the game, the stakes, the world, and what he he's going to do. His fate, his destiny, he chose it. That's why he's in the air reaching further than we ever thought possible.

The fact that she pointed out Zoro looking at the dragon in a familial way is wiiiild because yeah for sure it is an homage to Monsters and Ryuma, but it’s more the fact that Zoro is Ryuma’s descendant which is something I suspected in this arc because of how similar they look and him being Zoro’s prototype, but was only certain about once Punk Hazard came and Zoro slayed a dragon with Shusui (and now has been confirmed by Oda). So like that actually could have been intended as ‘familial,’ just not for the reasons she hypothesized here.

After the bit about the former Comfort Women of Amazon Lily I'm surprised she didn't bring up the likely historical allusion in that bridge Robin was stuck building before Dragon liberated it. The bridge always struck me as Japan's WW2 Burma Railway project under a coat of soviet aesthetic. Where imperial Japan forced POWs, undesirables, and conquered locals to work themselves to death under brutal conditions.

the sickest joke is that garp's pretending like if his grandsons had only been marines, they'd be saved. meanwhile sengoku doesn't sentence ace to death for being a pirate; his piracy isn't even mentioned in the charges. sengoku kills him for being roger's son. even if he'd been the most chest-thumping marine around, sengoku still would have killed him to send the rest of the world a message. it was never about ace. ace was robbed of all agency and personhood and reduced to a mere symbol in the eyes of the law, and garp was a fucking idiot for thinking that could be subverted. he's every bit the idealist that luffy is at his core. he still believes sengoku and the marines care about doing the right thing, and he's overwhelmingly proven wrong in this arc. it's just so awful to say what he did and blame ace for any of this. there was no choice ace could have made that would have avoided this. at least this way, the kid got a few years of freedom and happiness before having it all stolen away by despots and fascists.

I disagree that Sanji did all of that without training - his knife skills are the product of years of practice as a chef - but I do agree he has more innate aptitude than Zoro for two reasons one of which is his strategic intelligence and the other which gets into backstory spoilers. That being said, once (SPOILERS) haki is introduced, it gives the impression that literally everyone is born with the same potential, the difference in outcome comes down to willpower. How hard do you train and how hard do you want it? If haki can negate devil fruit abilities, if COC is the manifestation of an indomitable will and not something you’re born with, than that means innate ability doesn’t matter at all after a point, which is so interesting when we consider Kuina’s fears and insecurities. In the way that Kuina was a woman competing in a man’s world (from her perspective), Zoro is a human competing in a monster’s world. He doesn’t have a devil fruit, he isn’t genetically modified, he isn’t a cyborg, he isn’t a fishman or a mink; he is constantly fighting people with more advantages than him and coming out victorious not because of innate ability, but because of his own dedication to training and the manifestation of his willpower. And for those who say willpower is innate and cannot be trained, you are wrong. It may be easier for some than others, but discipline is absolutely something that one can instill in themselves and improve over time and Zoro isn’t doing that without any handicaps, either. And that’s what makes his character interesting. Sanji having more innate ability than him actually strengthens Zoro’s character and message. It’s a bit like the tortoise and the hare story where Zoro is the tortoise and his opponents are hares. If Zoro was just innately more gifted and talented, that would undermine the purpose and message of his character. Zoro is in a constant battle against his own human weakness and determined to come out the victor. Sanji, by contrast, is attempting to embrace his humanity when he was taught that eschewing it entirely is the pinnacle of strength. They are two sides of the same coin and the more you think about it, the more fascinating it is.

When Sanji called out to Robin to save him, I cooed at the tiny-baby's Character Development, patted him on the head, and sent him off to play with the other tiny-baby boys. Then sat back and CACKLED because: Maria's signed her Death Certificate, and ROBIN'S GONNA WRECK SHIT. Fantastic chapter. Absolutely a favorite of mine. And Robin's wink to Sanji after? "Thanks for relying on me for help." Gorgeous!!!

I still remember when I first read the Nika chapter and I was crying from joy. That's something I hadn't done since I was probably 4 or 5. And I wasn't even quite sure why I was so happy, I was just so overlyjoyed. I was literally doing laps around my house because I was so hyper. I called my little sister just to tell her how much fun I was having. And she had no idea what was going on, she was still way back in Dressrosa, and I was not about to tell her. But gosh, I wanted to. I wanted to throw a party or something. I really, really, don't know why it affected me that way. But I still smile just thinking about it.

Honestly, if the Live Action series can go to the Time Skip, I can't wait to see that Zoro and Mihawk scene played by those actors.

I was convinced that Oda was going to subvert everyone's expectations and not make the special devil fruit Luffy's and I was convinced that it would be Chopper who had the special fruit cause of all the transformations he has yes pre timeskip he had to use the rumble balls but post time skip it's just an ability he has and he has the base model human human fruit and that apparently gave him to intelligence to be a world class doctor a most humans aren't that smart so with those 2 things I was convinced his fruit was special
