The only way to describe Julie's music is like a massive hug from a loved one filling you up with peace and an almost undefinable warmth.
I hate all the ads but had it not been for you tube I would not have discovered all the beautiful, inspiring Celtic music from Brittany, Ireland and Scotland. How wonderful to belong to the same species as the divine creatures that perform these wonderful songs.
+jean- marie if you use google chrome search for adblock, it blocks all the ads on here automatically and its free.
+jean- marie ,wonderfully expressed! Been thinking quite the same for quite a few years.....
jean- marie what about the welsh!!!?
I just "discovered" Julie back in October and I'm addicted to her voice. I listen to her every night and she never fails to calm me down from the stresses of the day. Simply the clearest, sweetest voice I've ever heard in my life.
Great that the old songs and language are being preserved. We need to thank the islanders from Scotland and Canada for that.
Beautiful Music sung by beautiful women ,great band lovely to hear the mother tongue .Alba Gu Brath
My wife and I danced our first dance at our wedding to this song, and it still makes me cry. It is the most beautiful song in the world. Seeing Julie for the second time at the Perthshire Amber Festival with Dougie MacLean on the 29th of October! Cant wait!!!!
This is what real music sounds like! I wish we had more singers like this in America. I love Julie's music, and her for that matter. Jenna seems great as well! I will have to check her out.
God damn I do hope this music continues to survive....
Wow what a perfect song, how beautifully uplifting.
Jenna Reid is simply lovely, both back when this was recorded and now. And not just her physical beauty either; she is as good a Shetland fiddler as there is (at least to my knowledge). She holds her own with Aly Bain, and when you watch vids of the two of them playing together, you can see his respect for her on his face. Such fluid, emotive playing. I can't seem to get enough of her.
I'm not Scottish, I have no idea what this song means, and it's still one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
Oh, my goodness, how beautiful
The best song from her first album Mar A Tha Mo Chridhe (As My Heart Is) 2005
Thank you for a wonderful session.
Scottish Legend 🏴🦄
transatlantic sessions is wonderful,
hands across the ocean,
love Julie and Jenna's voices, great instrument playing
what more can be said.
This music is BEAUTIFUL.
I live in Australia, but have Scots ancestry. That was so beautiful!!!!
this is amazingly beautiful music and makes me cry every time I listen....now I wish I'd stayed awake during Irish lessons when I was in school....maybe if Julie had been teaching it :-)
This song makes me believe in angels.
This is a great song, performed by just the right people! Thanks for posting!
English translation:
Whether he or the others were drinking
There would still be plenty on the table
Chorus (after each verse):
The drink would be in my love's hand
Here's a health to the chief
The drink would be in my love's hand
A boat was seen on the waves
And the red hand at the helm
I saw it passing through the straits
With a clump of heather on the sail-yard
You who saw her out at sea
Bless the fair ship and her crew
Bless her high masts and her equipment
Her moorings and her sails
Though I am here in Coll
I long to go to Rhum
And from there to Uist
Were I to get my wish
Thanks!
thanks !!!!
I've only discovered Julie Fowlis. What an amazing voice.
And I, 10 years after you.
Donal Lunny - what a fantastic musician .
I am so glad to see young people singing traditional lyrics and the sounds of the instruments warm my heart. Makes me want to be Irish. Is it possible to have an Irish heart. This is the music that I lean into. THANK YOU
Shame it's Scottish.
this song (exactly this version) made me fall in love with first the Dobro and second Transatlantic Sessions. And this music still keeps inspiring me every day. Thanks for such great music and thanks for sharing it with us.
Francois, Malheureusement je ne parle pas la langue Celte que j'admire du fond de mon coeur!
Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever".
All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.
Three weeks ago I heard this song for the first time - since then, every single time I log on I click on this vid first, before e-mail, spam delete, and blog add. Julie Fowlis is a siren!
This is one of the most uplifting, cheerful, beautiful things I've ever heard. Julie's voice is so clear, and Jenna's is great too. The musicians are amazing too.
deagh orain!
Tha guth sgoinneil aig Julie. Tha i direach miorbhaileach!
the greatest dobro player on earth, Jerry Douglas is here, too!
+Karen Nyere Thank you, I was just trying to think of his name. isn't he brilliant :-)
I absolutely LOVE this song!! And Julie Fowlis!!!
Gabril Macoisin anseo. This sound comes from an ancient past that touch's 'the soul.
goosebumps and a warm feeling everytime I hear this beautiful gaelic song.
Yep. Continuing his streak of playing "just the right notes" here. He's somewhere up in the millions by now.
As is his streak of "music played with wonderful musical artists". What a joy that had to be, playing with these folks and Julie is a really striking woman. Don't know what it is, but I think she's as beautiful as she is wonderful to listen to.
I am so in love with both of these beautiful Scottish ladies!
Great musicians. I could watch this over and over again. Thanks a lot for posting.
I love Julie's music!!! It is just so beautiful!!!
a new Transatlantic Sessions I cant believe it ;).
Wow, ever since I first heard this song, I have been listening to it over and over again, I just can't get enough of it. Fortunately, I speak a bit of Irish Gaelic so I am able to catch the drift of what is being said - sigh ... I really love this song!
Music and voices that touch the soul.
Beautiful...both Julie, and the music. I wish her much success.
Juile is touring the US RIGHT NOW! and Jenna is with her! GO see them, that's an order!
Cada vez tengo más claro que debo ser irlandés! El flamenco no me dice nada y con The Highland Sessions se me saltan las lágrimas...qué gran generación de genios teneis!!
BEAUTIFUL!
This is humane history incarnate and a gift to the world as well. Very, very lovely!
This is one of my favorite songs!
Great stuff. It is good that the BBC are showing the Transatlantic Sessions on BBC4 on Thursdays. Thanks for posting
I couldn't possibly agree more.
Beautiful!
Couldn't have said it better myself! Amazing performance.
I kinda fell in love with these two girls!
unspeakably cute, tender and culturally refined girl; bless her little heart !
History, culture, and language is carried forward in part through traditional music. I'd love to see more of it finding its way into our schools, thoughtfully presented. There is a sad hole in the heart of our language arts and music curricula that needs filling!
she is beautiful and so is her voice :)
I love this tune.
lovely song i think i say this as because i do not under stand it but one thing i do now is she is a great great singer she would put you into a trance
Magic.
wonderful song. What a captivating voice! Thank you for sharing this!
Love it!
Great song and Performance. Awesome on the Dobro.
I think it is sad that these videos don't get more hits. It is some of the best music there is to hear. I hope BBC produces a fourth series of Transatlantic Sessions
Yeah its the transatlantic sessions, loads on youtube. Amazing
Beautiful song¡¡¡
worlds best vocalist.
great music
I agree! She is just fascinating!
As palabras son bonitas, Julie é tan sorprendente x
this is so so good.
Toll! Great!
I have been studying the language for a bit. One thing I found is that coming from a background where all my grandparents spoke the language I had an appreciation for the rhythm of the language because of the way my relatives spoke English. Their English was not standard English, but instead was heavily influenced by Gaelic.
Fantastic
Exquisite.
Love this song and would love to hear it live.
Im gay but id marry this women for her voice!! she is beautiful and he voice, astounding!!!!
No idea what she's saying but this is still one of my favorite songs
im in love....
Thanks! Merci! Danke!
+jean- marie go raibh maith agat ;)
That was the very first song where I came across that guy who plays the weird guitar. I immediatelly fell in love with the sound of it. Took me a while to find out who that guy was and what kind of guitar that is. I love Jerry Douglas' Dobro play!
Julie, ich liebe Dich ;-)!
thanks. I actually found it but then forgot where I posted this to say lol.
aussi irish fan love this piece of music
Peter Minogue It's Scottish, not Irish!
Great performance from the girl from North Uist and the lovely girl from Shetland. Would love to see her do "Eilean Uibhist Mo Ruin "
My Grandmother was from "Clachan Loch E`Port" on North Uist, I just love the island and of course Julie and her wonderful music.
Moran Taing Julie
Andrew McNab, Ibhir Nis, Alba
This sounds like a song you would sing while rowing a boat.
don't know what to say apart from... goose bumps
the very first song I ever heard from Julie. An wuth exactly the same instruments. It is a bit differet on Julie's first CD, but still fantastic. I love the Dobo and the sound of the long whistle.
Go raibh maith agat...go hionntach. .....slàn abhaile. .. ...
Such a beautifull song, i dont care that i dont understand the words..
beautiful voice
Julie & Jenna are Scottish - from North Uist & Shetland respectively. The language sung is Gàidhlig, Scotts Gaelic.
Just thought I'd mention this.
Although or course Donal Lunny is Irish
Great stuff! I love Celtic bluegrass!
You're not the only one !
que buen tema
素晴らしいセッション、
どうもありがとう。
i cried three seconds in
buy transalantic sessions mind blowing
wow
i saw her last year at celtic connections, excellent live. Go see her if you get the chance.
Why does Donal Lunny only get bit parts in these Transatlantic Sessions. He's a brilliant composer and arranger here in Eireann. Ta se go mhaith.
Raymond Dixon Because , as brilliant as he is, he is only one of many brilliant musicians on this programme. Any champion of any musician who appears on this programme could complain equally as you for Donal.
A great treat to listen to! Thanks for sharing! Tha am buidheann air fad math a rinn thu! (Hope idiom close - Google Translate.)
