@@kevinobrien8311 Absolutely agree Kevin...I think Jerry Doug's the best dobro/lap steel master who's ever lived. Jerry's performance of his Route Irish with some of the finest talents on the planet at the TA Sessions is utterly beyond words.
The Transatlantic sessions brought together so many talented musicians it's hard to list but this number must be considered a classic, gosh what a talented ensemble
Maura's voice is so powerful, so emotive! James Grant does beautiful accompaniment. The musicians are excellent! This rendition gives me the chills----the good kind.
Jerry Douglas.... aaargh, what a sound and Maura, as beautiful as ever In years to come, these sessions will be seen as the classics they are Just wonderful
All of the singers and musicians are so zoned out in this piece it is surreal. They are totally immersed in the creation of a beautiful song. But we get to hear a musical classical. Such brilliant harmony.
This is flawless, goosebumps and tears. They even look like they might be on that very train. And to see Nanci Griffith looking healthy and in good spirits is icing on the cake. Can’t get enough of this masterpiece.
How can 35 philistines dislike this ? The Transatlantic Sessions were wonderful. Sure, some were uneven, but there are performance gems amongst them. I have ten CDs from the series ( They're not easy to find ) and there's some wonderful stuff in there - this is one of my particular favourites, along with the John Martyn/Kathy Mattea, "May You Never" Many thanks to whoever came up with the concept.
Maura O'Connell w/ James Grant & Nanci Griffith - Blue Train Hello Maura O’Connell, I don’t really know if you read the letters sent to you but I’ll give it a shot. Last year a friend of mine posted “Blue Train” with you James Grant and Nanci Griffith. At that time my heart was empty and still is in a way. When I first watched the video I felt that I was on that train with you. When you started to sing I envisioned you and I looking out windows at the passing scenery but not focusing on anything as it passed, just a blank stare looking inward through our faded reflections upon glass. Please let me thank you and the rest of the group for performing “Blue Train” It truly touches me more than I can express.
Good heavens this is so damn fine...imagine having *this* group of people playing in your front room! Too much! I was moved to tears by this. Thank you!
Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever". All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.
I am awestruck by the beauty of all of these voices strung together.... their voices are a gift from God.... how amazing when certain music holds you still, just mesmerized; absolutely beautiful
I've heard Maura, Jerry and Russ do this song at Strawberry and I've heard Linda Ronstadt's version...I love this song. This is by far my favorite version ever.
Maura came to the Strawberry Music festivql with Jerry Douglas and Russ Barenberg and just knocked my socks off. This duet with Tom Kimmel is just pure magic
Maybe music CAN save the world...cut through the hate and ignorance. This is certainly an excellent example of that cooperation and love of a joyfull noise......what's so funny bout peace loving and understanding? More please..

This is my favorite music video of all time. Photography, the beat, the soulfulness of all the people is just fantastic. Made me a fan of James Grant, too
Sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, and love belong to all of us. It is music that allows us to experience these emotions universally. This is a wonderful vocal performance by Maura O'Connell (and friends).
i'm speechless.what do you say to this but simply put...Now this is what you call real music .Live.honest.real these guys are so amazing.I don't know what else to say i'm her biggest fan ever now.thank you guys,i got me some chills!Bravo .Encore!
What a great idea to bring together such wonderful artists from both sides of the Atlantic to Scotland to record such incredible jam sessions! Thanks Aly and Jerry!
What a room! How'd ya like to be a mouse in the corner : ) Maura is sensational and so modest. I love the look of admiration Nanci Griffith has. The whole TS series should be on a "world channel" available to to everyone, anytime. Should be mandatory in schools, courtrooms and corporate offices... might turn out to be a much better world. Oh well, I'll get the DVD of TS 2 when it hits the shelves. Thanks for posting this! willy
I would love to travel around just doing their dishes if it meant that I could sit in on this type music....I will go to bed tonight praying for a touch of their talent...Thank you for posting this and for opening thousands of new hearts to this talent.
Maura - what a voice. What a talent. Why hasn't she been on X Factor!!?? I'd never heard of her, until an appearance on Transatlantic 3 and it's humbling that there's so much talent still out there doing wonderful stuff like this ..and almost anonymously.
Something happens to the musicians during these sessions. They appear to push their technical skills / talent to the limit at the same time there appears to be a massive amount cohesiveness between each other. The result is some of the best music on the planet.
Glad many have enjoyed this old share of mine. Excuse long neglect of my UA-cam channel. Not sure exactly what ShiraElanCollaBrie is asking about volumes. These were originally broadcast in 30 min segments - and I thought each series all on a single DVD by now.
+mnemonyxx Thank you for this! many young in's do not know what is out there and I will always be grateful to you for showing them the way....Cuz right now I'm riding the blue train...This has been my anthem since Feb! since I laid my love of 40 years down in the earth...You have made my mourning easier....
it is criminal that James Grant is not up there with best singer song writers ever If you get a chance please check out everything from love and money thru to his solo work A complete joy Tom Waites et al would struggle to write lyrics like these
My little dog "sings" along to this video exclusively. This video is one of my favorites, so it shows up frequently on my playlists and I guess she's also learned to love it. I don't know if it's the harmony, the timbre or something else that prompts her to sing. I posted video of her - search for "Alice Babette" to find it. This morning she sat on my lap and howled right along again.
Dam!...Wish I had practised my guitar playing more and got to be a virtuoso musician like this crowd. Might have gotten to play with and marry this beautiful woman. Ah well...woulda/coulda/shoulda! Life goes on!
Maura has one of the best instruments on the planet! Richness, clarity, full-bodied, great intonation and tons of feeling. Studio version of "Half Moon bay" is a good example also.
In my humble opinion this is one of the greatest recorded performances ever..
see Maura live love her xxx
Yep. It is THAT good
I couldn't agree more. Gerry Douglas is probably the best lap steel player alive today.
Thank god for them and transatlantic session s

The Transatlantic sessions brought together so many talented musicians it's hard to list but this number must be considered a classic, gosh what a talented ensemble
This womans voice spins my wooley Irish head just off its neck......and fills me with a ridiculous pride.
Probably the best track ever from The Transatlantic Sessions..
Yeah - to my mind it's a dead-heat with the John Martyn/Kathy Mattea, " May You Never " - both great, truly
Hell I have only just discovered this - so many wasted years.
Superb
StubyStubyDoo And me
beautiful does not even begin to describe this music
I had the good fortune of meeting Ms. O'Connell. What a sweet person, with a voice to match.
Maura's voice is so powerful, so emotive! James Grant does beautiful accompaniment. The musicians are excellent!

I still absolutely love this all these years later. Total class
Ouch! it is so beautiful it hurts inside ....
But heals your wounds as well !
What a joy to have this to come back to after years and get to reexperience it's beauty and perfection. Thank you
All of the singers and musicians are so zoned out in this piece it is surreal. They are totally immersed in the creation of a beautiful song. But we get to hear a musical classical. Such brilliant harmony.
If you don't love this song, you need to get your ears checked. This is awesome!!
always come back to this... so much talent in this room...
They're all, so talented...but I love, Maura O' Connell!
I don't know why but this song makes me cry.
This is flawless, goosebumps and tears. They even look like they might be on that very train. And to see Nanci Griffith looking healthy and in good spirits is icing on the cake. Can’t get enough of this masterpiece.
Beautiful sad voices! I can hear the blue train crying...

A Masterpiece... Absolutely Superb 👏👏👏👏
So immensely beautiful.
Watching the long faces
Riding this run down track
And the lost places
From a dream that never brings them back
And the sad truth is nothing but a cold hard fact
I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train
Counting the burned bridges
Trailing this rusted wreck
As our back pages
Scatter in the dust we left
Like a pearl necklace
Fallen from around your neck
I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train
Away down the low road
A ticket to an empty room
A rendezvous unknown
I'm riding the blue train
Over the miles yet to cover
A ghost in a hurry to fade
I'm taking it one way to nowhere
Afraid you might be there
To find me inside this blue train
Klee Hyacinth Thank you.wonderful
Maura has such a fantastic voice. This truly is an outstanding recording.
This is such a beautiful rendition by some very capable artistes.
Suffice to say, it moved me to tears!

She reminds me of an Irish immigrant to America. They helped to build our country.
Don't tell that to Trump!
She is an Irish immigrant to the U.S. She lives in Nashville.

Maura never disappoints a voice full of soul and depth, lovely version of this song, pity she doesn't gig in Ireland much.
