I’ve owned a 2018 X1 for 2 years now. I have not had reliability issues at all and love the X1. If I made a list of top 5 gripes this would be my list 1) very few were equipped to allow for Apple CarPlay 2) only has one USB, no mini jack or extra USB jacks. Bluetooth streaming is excellent though, with album art showing on the display. 3) To get extra cargo room, it would be handy to pull up and out the rear seat bottom like in the E46. Can’t do this. 4) the remote key is powered by a disposable 2032 battery. Rechargeable would be better since I’ve had the entire fob suddenly go dead. (This requires pulling a door handle cover off to access the door lock with the secret key in the fob and holding the fob to the steering column. ) 5) There are unnecessary covers in the engine compartment, on the underside covering oil plug and filter, and in the cargo area (these are easy to remove and store). My gripes are minor - this is an excellent build, the X1 comes from German factories.
@@davidzip873 Thank you for your response! I will try the parking assistance button next to the shift gear. Still getting used to the size of x1 after Rav4. The hood seems longer in x1.
I agree, I think when I was looking at cars in 2016, the X1 was beautiful, with excellent visibility, zip, (snug) sporty comfort and original styling, and premium sound system and the beautiful looking displays and GPS maps. All this still holds true 5 years later. I have also received excellent service and coffee lattes at the BMW dealer.
Lol, I bet you actually believe the dealership when they say a certain car get 45 miles to the gallon also, right? Of course BMW's website is going to say that!
IMHO I would choose a 17 or 18 " wheel over 19" or 20" anyday, especially on a small awd utility vehicle like this. I do agree with his comment however, to make the wheels slightly wider, and with a lower offset to push the wheels out. They probably keep them tucked in like this to prevent damage (rock chips, etc) to the exterior paint.
Yes my 19" run flats and 2016 Msport suspension feel the bumps. I will look to non-run flats. I My 19" premium rims are beautiful, but I as is the Estorl Blue paint finish.
I just went and test drive a BMW X1. The lift gate coming down on its own happened to the dealer employee and me! He was really embarrassed and didn't know what happened. Not having heat/air controls in the back was also something I picked up on.
The X1 tailgate closure is dangerous. I had the feature (wire/plug) disconnected finally by the dealer, just like HAL was disconnected in the Movie "2001." IMO BMW was unsympathetic and untimely in addressing this problem, I ended with a trip to the ER and a BMW scar from being injured by the auto tailgate. Will not but again this make and also this feature. Stay Safe.
Most of the X1 F48 owners send back their vehicle back to Service Centre to fix the Auto Tailgate issue which lead to close or open by itself.. Sensors over sensitive..
2:00 Most BMW's have the tires pulled in a little bit from the side profile. I know for sure it's like that on my 328i and pretty much every other BMW I've ever driven. Not really a valid complaint. Also, the X1 is the cheapest BMW that you can buy. Yes, it is an entry level car, and no, I'm not surprised they didn't put more controls in the rear seats. This is not an X5.
Yikes if I saw this 2 months ago I may have been scared off. I bought a CPO 2017 X1 - my 1st BMW ever. I've owned tons of cars and SUV's over the years. Now I was worried about the smaller engine since most of my past cars have been 6 or larger and only owned one turbo engine car a Saab which later on the turbo started leaking oil. But only 2 months into it so I can't say until much longer down the road maybe 2-3 years but so far I'm loving it. It's plenty quick enough for my driving style. I've did once while sitting on the hatch I think I may have smashed the key fob button but it was no problem
@@coolvideo28 love my x1, only complaint really is I wish the seats were a bit more comfortable. Im coming from sports cars with bucket seats etc that are just super comfortable.
I think your information is mostly without much accuracy. You do realize the X1 is the entry level for BMW right? And lol if that trunk closed on you that means you bumped the hatch close button on the fob.Your zero to 60 time is wrong by almost 2 seconds. You should redo the video and correct the faulty info.
Just picked up a 2020 x1 xdrive for my wife. Black on black with 19" black rims. The pirelli RF tires are shit and too skinny. Swapped to 235/40/19 Continental Ext Contacts dsw+. Rides so much better and the extra 10mm makes it much more composed on the hwy. Also, if you don't like the power, grab a jb4 tune. Added 60hp and 70 torque for less than 700 bux. Top end is much better now. It's a little noisy on the hwy so I ordered 50sf of sound deadening off amazon. Make a fun weekend project. It's a great car for the money though; drives great, gets 30+ hwy mpg, and can hold more cargo than our old CRV. She loves the panoramic sunroof and Carplay too 😁.
Besides the short visor, which is downright dangerous, (I had to buy an extender) I cannot see the gauges through the steering wheel. I have to lower the wheel to a very uncomfortable and awkward position in order to see anything. What were they thinking? Also, why doesn’t the seatbelt height adjust? What is this 1974? And why don’t the front wipers stay extended up to avoid freezing? Another thing - the side view mirror adjustment has no neutral setting. It’s either on left or right. Every time I take it to carwash I have to readjust one or both as they are touched when wiped to clean the armrest. Agree totally with the styling. I know it’s an X1 but somebody needs to go back to the drawing board and sex it up! Lastly, the choice of colors is nothing to get excited about!
I also have a 2018 BMW X1 with M sport pkg. I really do not agree with all the points except for the auto-open-close tailgate feature. Not only it closes expectedly but it would also open unexpectedly as well (sometimes). I make it a point to look back at it once I locked and walked away from it after parking to make sure the tailgate is still closed and locked. All the other points are very subjective (to me). As mentioned by the reviewer, this is more like a utility vehicle so it should not be compared with another model say with a N55 or B58 engine in the same model year range. BTW, if anyone wants more performance from this X1, put it on Sport Mode.
Well this was a waste of 7:52 you’re complaining because the bottom of the line X series doesn’t compare to your x5 lol The purpose of this vehicle was to be an entry-level Bmw, if you expect to get everything in your x5 out of x1 that really shows your intelligence level
Not meant to be that but just to put things in perspective. Not sure if you saw my Love video too but overall I believe that this is a great video with excellent value and some cool tech.
Don't go to Germany and buy a BMW where they come with very small diesel engines, smaller wheels and pretty much the cars are just like a car. The sports cars they make are more special and pretty much the x1 sums up the most common type of bmws bought.
Literally the first UA-cam channel I actually looked up how to block that's pretty sad. You clearly don't know much about cars and I don't even own a BMW.
But you would have to understand why they put the wheels like they did on the x1. It’s a fwd based chassis. That’s why they did what they did what the wheels.
NO offense dude but you get what you pay for and not judging BUT, it's an X1 so it's like the very stater in the X line. But your video was interesting in how they could indeed improve on that particular model.
Yes the wheels look small. Take a look at Porsche Macan. Also on x4 the look very small. For the American market, indeed, the 4 cylinder engine is not very attractive at all. I've travelled to US several times and whenever I rent a decent premium car, I got a V6, 280hp at least. In terms of quality and features, the x1 doesn't keep up with the other models like 5series, x3, x5, even the 3 series is a bit better, which is why it is considerably cheaper.
I am looking into possibly getting this and I agree with you on all points except the back end I like it. It is funny seeing all these people in the comments getting so upset over your negative comments did they read the title. It's an SUV. Sports Utility Vehicle. Whyt the hell would you need more than 18/19 inch wheels. You want bigger ones? Have fun scrathing them all over the the sideways when parking. Also your acceleration number is completely off, not even the 20i has 8sec. By the way, engine downsizing is pretty much happening over all car manufacturers. You just bought the wrong car for you and complain about. Shouldn't have bought an utility car if you want something sporty.

I don’t get you? You’re whingeing about things that had you spent more money on the bigger engine or higher spec it would be faster and bad bigger wheels? And when will you yanks give up the obsessed with cubic capacity?
Well it’s not penalized here and if it’s available, there are few drawbacks but the feel of brisker acceleration is a must have. I have driven a bunch in Europe and I see tight spaces and curvy roads means more power rarely is useful but honestly over here there are wide roads that run straight for miles so a weak engine really is exaggerated and more power feels like the answer
