Cigars infused with coffee taste the best and bourbon infused cigars are the most relaxing to smoke.I do most of habits featured in this video but the most bizarre or wired thing that I do when smoking is to tear the label off the cigar first before cutting, cold drawing, or lightning and smoking. One I want to enjoy the cigar as much as possible without smoking the label itself and two I keep the label in order to look for the make of the cigar again if it's good. I only smoke about once every three months so when I do I want to relish every once of the experience.
Quick shoutout to Brian. Dude I've been watching you since Scam School (even scored a few beers because of it) and you're always entertaining! Congrats!

10:30 to 11:05, us the best part. This video involves a lot of science, this section is probably the most science packed. I love when you have many subject matters involved in one video based on the original subject. It shows how many different things can be related and makes things, simpler, easier and gunner to learn about.
I really love this presentation, noticed how mike so competently added just small notes to his friend’s presentation, he added the key temperature proceeded to take a few boss puffs and then added key points like “ first u gonna have your cellphone switched off”. They did such a beautiful job. Tq for helping me understand my vice as I get older
I have a lovely humidor made from maple, hand carved with a mountain scene and pack of wolves carved into it, brass hinges, and lined with spanish cedar. It only holds 6 cigars, each separated, but that's all I need. It was a gift from someone special who's no longer with us. I don't know if it's true that spanish cedar helps repel tobacco beetle, but I do love the scent you get each time you open it up.
I too use a humidor handed down from a family member. Unfortunately, spanish cedar does not repel tobacco beetles. Nothing repels tobacco beetles as they are already present in the tobacco used to make the cigars. As was said in the episode, high heat and humidity cause the tobacco beetle larvae to hatch. I have several humidors and even use a cooler to store large amounts of cigars. As long as you keep the temp below 75 and the humidity below 75% or so, you should not have any tobacco beetle issues no matter the container. Yes, my cedar lined humidors smell better than the coolers LOL
Congratulations for the cigar series, it's being really interesting and informative. I would love to watch an tobacco pipe one. Pipe smoking has it's own world, related to pipe desings, tobacco types, proper lighters and so on. I really hope to see you guys approach on the subject!
Love roma craft cigars, didn't know the guys the guys that run it are so knowledgeable. I have been smoking for years, Im a bit of a nerd with cigars and cigar knowledge, and I am always annoyed by how little cigar "professionals" know so little. These guys are incredibly knowledgeable and well versed, I am pleasantly surprised.
Very helpful I've been trying to get into smoking cigars but it can be hard to get practical experience without either being judged by the store workers or not being educated correctly thanks guys

The fact that nicotine has an impact on your blood sugar was really interesting, as I suffer from diabetes and definitely recognise the feeling of having low blood sugar. But hey, since alcohol is converted into sugar, my favorite thing to do, which is drinking Whiskey and smoking cigars, should technically balance my sugar levels quite well. Cheers!
Hey guys, I would love to see you guys learn some modern off-grid survival skills. After learning the perfect gentlemanly skills and the most dastardly rogue tricks, a certain foreign leader could become jealous of your accomplishments and send agents after you. How do you plan to not only hide, but thrive? This could be a multi-episode mini-series, where you learn different parts of the trade. Shelter, Farming, local networking (do I see a squarespace sponsor for that episode?). Even if not, could we get episodes on proper attire (suits)? You'd be helping all is almost adults be slightly less scared of the "real" world we have heard so much about. I can't wait to see what you do next.
Interesting stuff about the moderate smoking of cigars isn't really very unhealthy according to the FDA. I'd have to look into that, because I was convinced that it would still have a negative empact, being smoke and all. Other than that, this video is very informative! Good job!!
Generally, you don’t inhale it. Just into the mouth. So there is a chance of mouth cancer and what not, but you would have to be smoking them everyday or very very often. It’s not like smoking cigarettes or chewing where you’re constantly have something packed in your lip or smoking multiple cigarettes a day. Usually you sit down, smoke one for a few hours, or even longer.

My airbnb in Colombia South America was in a top floor, so when you sat on the toilet, and opened the bathroom door, you got to see the sky and the mountains and felt an awesome breeze. I sat down, lit a puerto rican cigar and put on porcelain from Moby. Best crap ever ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Outstanding, comprehensive video on cigar smoking; I would expect no less from the Modern Rogues ! :-) That said, I would respectfully add a correction. While a nuanced smoke is difficult to enjoy while doing something like mowing the lawn, if you're outside, especially if you are moving around, you want a cigar with more robust body then what you get if you in an environment where the air isn't moving much. The inside of a garage with the door open is probably in between lawn mowing and completely inside where the air isn't moving much and the smoke hangs around. As a general rule, you want one stage up in robustness than you normally enjoy if you're mowing the lawn, golfing. Obviously, its not just about the body and cigars are even more so than other things: "your millage may vary." Different people find different cigar taste profiles enjoyable. The right one is the one you enjoy for that particular environment, your particular taste. There are people that love what I would call a "bland" flat cigar, as I enjoy exceptionally robust cigars with as much complexity as I can get - this no matter the environment. However, that is just what I found I liked. Other people's taste run in different ways and its all ok. And I should mention that I'm a grandmother who never smoked cigarettes who was turned on to cigars by chance about 20 years ago or so in my late 40's. Stereotypes hold that I should like a mild cigar, something with a smaller ring gauge. However, the opposite is in fact true in my case: Again, I like very robust, very complex cigars and I prefer a large gauge as I dislike a hard draw (as a general rule, larger gauges will offer easier draws). That said, this isn't a contest. Again, its about what tastes right for you in various environments and circumstances. I would also add (though I may have missed it, in which case I apologize) that if the cigar becomes almost sour, and the "cherry" is cone shaped, you are smoking the cigar too vigorously, or puffling too often, or both (what cigarette smokers may call, "hot boxing"). One of the many reasons I love cigar smoking is that it forces me to slow down, take a break, relax. It is far better to have to relight a cigar that has gone out than err on the other side and ruin your experience. Fear not however, let the cigar go out, when re-lighting, exhale through the cigar somewhat....assertively? a few times and this should clear out any lingering sour flavor and you can go back to enjoying your smoke. (Finally, I will add that when I was younger, if I was engaged in physical activity, I had a greater tendency to hotbox a cigar, simply because I was breathing harder. So, when golfing or something, just be a bit more mindful). .
While some of what was discussed might seem somewhat "hoity-toity," part of what is going on is ritual. Rituals have been part of mankind for, arguably, hundreds of thousands of years, certainly since the first civilizations. They can tap into very primal portions of the brain and smells/tastes are processed by some of the oldest parts of the brain, evolutionarily speaking, and dynamically interact with memory - thus the soothing effects of chicken broth when ill or the smell of grandmother's cookies at Christmas or some other holiday or celebration. So the rituals of cigar smoking add to its enjoyment, rather than detracting from it. Having to learn how to enjoy an activity or experience can make you feel part of, included, sort of a "catching yourself doing something right." And while enjoying a cigar with friends is awesome, enjoying a cigar with strangers, say at a tobacconist who has tables and couches can provide a feeling of deep camaraderie as you experience others in an open, welcoming, inclusive environment. Lots of times, I've been the only woman sitting with a group of men and the community we create, even if just temporary, can be rich, safe, open and fulfilling. At the same time, enjoying a cigar watching a sunset alone after a hard day's work can provide a profound spiritual or at least spiritual-esque experience that is different, but just as enjoyable, a time to reflect and appreciate the splendor of nature and the infinite complexity of the universe. Finally, I should note that cigars, being more "base" than cigarettes, are more readily absorbed by the organs of the mouth. Just because we aren't inhaling (or only engaging in a token amount of "French inhaling"), if you don't regularly smoke, smoking a cigar as substantial as the Modern Rogues enjoyed in the video above can often deliver a potent "high" that can be enjoyable. Pair it with a good coffee (as mentioned by the smoke-shop owners as naturally complimentary, as can be chocolate btw) can really get one's head spinning, but in a good way. Make sure that you realize that you may be impaired. Enjoy it as part of the whole experience, but do be careful about the decision to get into a car and drive home..... (a nicotine hangover the next day is not uncommon and your mouth can taste like an ashtray. Drink lots of water and get some food in you; you should feel a lot better :-) .
My grandfather smoked Coronas 8 a day and inhaled them since he was 12. He died at age 64 and 364 days old one day before his first pension cheque. They did list it as emphysema but he also drank about 40 ounces of booze a day since he was 16. Every picture we have of him is with a cigar in his hand except for a few with a cigarette. He didn't care and smoked in the hospital when he was dying.
im not an avid smoke but the past month, its been about 1 a week. I just stumbled on this video and didnt really now that nicotine had such an affect on the blood sugar. Well this week the tip about having some sugar if your feeling nauseous came in super handy. It wasnt instant but it resolved pretty quickly. Thanks for the tip!
Really informative video and even though I am an experienced smoker I learned a few things. Skip is an interesting guy and I had the joy of hanging out with him and Steve Saka at Romacraft’s factory in Esteli in January 2020. Keep making those great cigars.
5 years after this video started my cigar journey, my country finally got in Roma Craft Tabac cigars and I got to rewatch while lighting up an Intemperance Torpedo. Thank you lads
this video gives the sufficient and needed info to smoke a cigar properly... Perfect for a beginner. Other than learning how to prepare a humidor, thats all you need to know to get started..
Heat rises, but if your cigar burns inconsistently, both in mine and my dad's experience, turn it so the part that's not burning is on bottom. For whatever reason, it will even out a bit more easily on the bottom. Granted, it's just anecdotal evidence, and I personally don't have a ton of experience with it (though my dad has a fair bit), but that's what we've found.
Aha, I have no clue what my dad's humidor controls the humidity at, but then again, even buying them direct from a tobacconist and smoking them immediately after, that's his observation. Though if you noticed that directly, I'll have to bring it up next time I see him to see if we can pinpoint it like that. Though isn't 65% on the lower end of the range they said is best to store them? So I wouldn't blame him for being closer to 70%.
Nevermind, that was quick. I just messaged my dad, and he said he stores them at 70-75%, so I guess that answers that question. Though I would assume that small, precise difference doesn't affect too much other than things like that. They'd still be perfectly good. Though how they burn is very interesting then.
whoah man, thats super humid! usually 70 is the max, be careful if you store a lot of cigars, too much humidity and you might get cigar beetles. Usually the manufacturer/tobbaconist stores them at 69-72% because of long distance transport reasons or so that people without humidors have 2-3 days to smoke them/ store them in the plastic baggie. I used to think who the hell can tell the difference anyway, but now they burn razor sharp, and i get way more flavor from my maduros. less relights too. i recommend putting a 65% boveda pack in a travel humidor with a few cigars, and smoking them in about a week when humidity stabilizes. happy smoking to you & your pop! let me know if you try it out
ps one more note, if youre aging cigars 69% is better, but lower RH like 65 is better for smoking, and some guys even go as low as 62%. 69% is a good middle ground between aging and smoking, but 65 is the clear winner if you arent aging them for 7-10 years
This video was really useful. I'm a smoker, and I always wanted to try a cigar, but I was intimidated by the "mistery" of it. Now I kinda' know what to look for. Thanks !
I'd love to see an episode about tobacco pipes. I've been smoking one for 4 years and I love it. Very cool culture surrounding it and really great smoking experiences.
This past November, I attended the Breeders Cup in Kentucky and was struck by 1.) how little I knew about horse racing 2.) how little I knew about fancy culturality of such things and 3.) how much I felt out of sorts without a cigar. Until I found these episodes of MR, I knew almost nothing about cigars. Now, if I ever go back to a horse race, I will at least know 1 of the three things I didn't know in November 2018.
Every group has Guy -- 1. Giving info 2. Other 1 is scholar but keep silence to let 1st on to shine. 3. Loud af 4. 4th one thinking why i even came here,
Coming here to watch it again and i'm still dumb struck that my city Arapiraca in the corner of Brazil was mentioned. I always say that you know you are entering the city because you start to see tabacco crops, it's not as big it once was since the health regulations really came cracking on the market, now we are mostly a commercial city with some industry sprouting on the last five to ten years but it is still important specially to the family based farmers that hold on to their land in an island between ruge sugar cain plantations.
Not sure if I posted this message before; I rewatch these cigar episodes every few months. As a Canadian; butane torch lighters do not work when cold. :P Left my torch in the car and could not light my cigar. Had to stop somewhere and pick up an old school BIC lighter; those work regardless of temp.
Now, as a really bad asthmatic I cant go anywhere near smoke like this, I'm pushing it near a camp fire, but interesting to watch, I must say a great episode. Extremely interesting.
I love that, after going most of my life without, Modern Rogue starts doing exploratory episodes on whiskey, cigars, and explosives just as I'm getting serious about enjoying each of those.
I think these guys did a good job representing our cigar culture. Its not like most modern rogue things where you try to look like you know what you're doing or have an expensive "quality" cigar. It's about hanging out and enjoying it!
Nick Butler indeed it's an entirely different ballpark when you aren't intentionally inhaling smoke you are exposed to exponentially less carcinogens than a cigarette
Nick Butler It's just smoke with some nicotine. It's no more unhealthy for you than drinking a cup of coffee or beer in front of a campfire, and people have been doing both for thousands of years. Cigars get a bad rap since tobacco is also in cigarettes. But the main difference (besides the myriad potentially dangerous fillers/chemicals in cigarettes) is that many people who have died from smoking cigarettes also smoked multiple packs a day! So the moral of the story is: don't overdo it. And have decent genes. lmao
No matter the size, cigars are tobacco, and they contain the same cancer-causing substances found in cigarettes. All cigars are dangerous to your health. Regular cigar smokers are 4 to 10 times more likely to die from cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx, and esophagus than non-smokers. For those who inhale, cigar smoking appears to be linked to death from cancer of the pancreas and bladder, too. www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/tobacco-and-cancer/is-any-type-of-smoking-safe.html
Nick Butler they are not dangerous at all. Smoking a cigar a day will not kill you infect it will reduce your stress weighing the negatives of tobacco out if not lengthening your life span. On of the oldest men alive said his secrets to long life is cigars and god.
@@Condemned782 I would describe it more as a straw, you draw the smoke into your mouth but you don't Inhale it into your lungs. Much like when drinking you can draw the liquid into your mouth but not drink it.
Great video. Here in Canada we use chuch in a different way. For example in you start a gas mower she is chuching. Never heard of a chuch revered to people but I like it.
I apologize if this has been covered if it has please drop a link. I am a huge fan of the pipe and it's (what I see as) a elegant and forgotten indulgence of yesteryear. Tip: Do NOT cut/punch the cap first. After going through all the initial rituals (i.e., visual examination, squeezing for soft spots, etc.), light the cigar FIRST. Use only long matches, butane torch lighters or cedar to light, NEVER use regular matches (sulfur). The proper way to light it is to "toast" the foot of the stick first by holding and rotating it slowly, not putting it directly INTO the flame but by lighting it just ABOVE the flame. After toasting it, blow on the end while rotating to to ensure even lighting of the foot (you should see an even, ashy ring around the end (foot). Then hold the cigar at a 45 degree angle and light the filler, again, just above the flame. After it is lit, you THEN cut/punch the cap. The last step is to take a draw (not a super deep one) while holding the foot to the fire. You should then see the foot flame up while you take the draw. Enjoy!

Micah Philson hey there! I think, if I'm not wrong, that in one episode brian said he did not like wine! If I'm correct, which I think but I can't remember so please don't quote me!
French cheese would be nice too !
10:30 to 11:05, us the best part. This video involves a lot of science, this section is probably the most science packed. I love when you have many subject matters involved in one video based on the original subject. It shows how many different things can be related and makes things, simpler, easier and gunner to learn about.
Not very interested in smoaking personally but its very interesting to see how much really goes into this kind of thing.
agreed.
I agree but I think that cigars are cool
I really love this presentation, noticed how mike so competently added just small notes to his friend’s presentation, he added the key temperature proceeded to take a few boss puffs and then added key points like “ first u gonna have your cellphone switched off”. They did such a beautiful job. Tq for helping me understand my vice as I get older
Pretty sure he said something about taking the cellophane off which would be the plastic wrapper around the cigar
@@Sasha8pancakes finally 🤣🤣🤣
This was the best video that covered everything about the experience that is a cigar. Informative and never slows down or got boring!
Bill's humidor just turned 44.
Nice!
I keep mine in vine cellar...
chooch
Got a lot of requests for that one, so I think we’ll have to try it. I’ve always loved the smell of pipe tobacco.

Outstanding! Best of luck.
Man, as someone who rarely smokes cigars but likes to socially when a friend offers, that sugar tip is great to know.
The most informative Cigar related videos on the internet. Wow I learned soo much its crazy.
As a highly enthusiastic and experienced cigar guy I have to say this was a good video led by someone who's well informed . Great for people who are starting to explore trh cigar life, nice work guys
I like how detailed and even small details are discussed and also few interesting facts are mentioned. Such a class
Im from Austin as well, I stumbled upon your channel by accident around the time this video was filmed and I have not been disappointed since!
Cheers!
Hey guys,
I would love to see you guys learn some modern off-grid survival skills.
All fantastic ideas!
As a cigar smoker, this has elevated my enjoyment of the occasional cigar (2x a week) ten-fold! Thank you all.

That said, I would respectfully add a correction.
Having to learn how to enjoy an activity or experience can make you feel part of, included, sort of a "catching yourself doing something right."
And while enjoying a cigar with friends is awesome, enjoying a cigar with strangers, say at a tobacconist who has tables and couches can provide a feeling of deep camaraderie as you experience others in an open, welcoming, inclusive environment.
Drink lots of water and get some food in you; you should feel a lot better :-)

John Beauvais hi
Heat rises, but if your cigar burns inconsistently, both in mine and my dad's experience, turn it so the part that's not burning is on bottom. For whatever reason, it will even out a bit more easily on the bottom.
Granted, it's just anecdotal evidence, and I personally don't have a ton of experience with it (though my dad has a fair bit), but that's what we've found.
what humidity do you store at? I used to store at 69% and had the same problem until I switched to 65%
Aha, I have no clue what my dad's humidor controls the humidity at, but then again, even buying them direct from a tobacconist and smoking them immediately after, that's his observation.
69% is a good middle ground between aging and smoking, but 65 is the clear winner if you arent aging them for 7-10 years
I enjoyed the information in this video.. I would love to see a similar video on pipe smoking. Types of tobacco, how to smoke etc.

Damn you're making me want a cigar so bad.
So, cigars are, if you properly smoke it, not that dangerous in cimpairison to cigarette
Nick Butler indeed it's an entirely different ballpark when you aren't intentionally inhaling smoke you are exposed to exponentially less carcinogens than a cigarette
I mean you have more chemicals in cigarettes than just a tobacco cigar
Brushwood is such a chooch that he coughed while inhaling an unlit cigar....
You're not meant to inhale cigar smoke.
@@sentientprogram660 It wasn't lit though, there was no smoke.
@@sentientprogram660 then what do you do with it?
@@Condemned782 I would describe it more as a straw, you draw the smoke into your mouth but you don't Inhale it into your lungs. Much like when drinking you can draw the liquid into your mouth but not drink it.
@@sentientprogram660 thats very interesting. If you dont inhale it into your lungs does that mean there's no nicotine?

They haven’t done one one pipes unfortunately
Enjoy!
