One of my favs is the Sagamore barrel proof rye...scrumptious. I cracked my JDBPR a few weeks ago- only had two pours and absolutely love this juice. Cheers. bro!
I’ve got all of these except the Michter’s. I got the 10 year bourbon though. The Old Overholt is impossible to find here, but the Bardstown is readily available. Like in real estate, location is key.
Okay, I’m commenting before watching. I started my journey about 1.5 years ago and I really enjoy the rye whiskeys as a spirit lover:) my tops are: Jack Daniels Harvest Rye Michters 10yr Michters BS Thomas H Handy Any, The Prideful Goats Any, Sagamore’s especially PX Sherry Barrell Seagrass Pikesville RY3 Madeira finished Art of the Spirit Rare Breed Rye Redwood Empire Emerald Giant CS JDSBBP rye Very Old Saint Nick Harvest Rye Not sure which are for bourbon drinkers but I think Rye whiskey is great! Cheers! Now I’ll go watch the video:)
Sagamore Double Oak is so fantastic! Old Overholt 10-year is also excellent! I've yet to see the Old Overholt 114 but have enjoyed their 4-year and their bottle-in-bond. And without a doubt the winner overall in your line-up is the Jack Daniel's SBBP Rye! And though I am a bourbon fan first, rye fan second, this JD offering is even more enjoyable to me than their SBBP bourbon, which I also love! The only two in your 6 I have yet to try are the Pikesville and the Bardstown. They are available in my area, so I will give them a try! Cheers!
Easy to find I would add Green River rye and Jack Daniels bonded. Maybe the best rye I have had would be the Michters Toasted Barrel Strength rye. Hard Truth variety of barrel strength ryes are really good. The Prideful Goat 8 year is good too. Your list hit a lot of the other good ones.
Great video. I would add the Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye and I am also a fan of Old Elk Rum Cask Rye. The rum finish definitely helps cut some of the rye spice despite being higher proof. Cheers
Never know when a bottle will pop up! I walked into my local BevMo six months ago and they had one Michters 10yr rye just off the delivery truck 160.00 bucks! Then last month same place Michters 10yr bourbon 199.00 bucks! Right place right time:) keep searching:)
Nice list. The JD SBBP is incredible. I prefer Sagamore 8 Yr or Cask strength over the Double Oaked, but all are great. I had a bottle of Old Overholt 10 Yr and was underwhelmed by it - not worth $100, imho. But - the one missing from your list that I am currently in love with - Redwood Empire's Emerald Giant Cask Strength. WOW! If you like 95/5 mashbills and you see this one - grab it!!
That Sagamore DO is better than both of those mentioned imo. That JD is so good. Drinks lower and is delicious. I’ve got 4 bottles of the same batch. Honorable mention should go to OFSingle Barrel.
love your list! i don’t know about them being good for bourbon drinkers but i love Old Overholdt 10 yr, River Roots, Thirteenth Colony Cask Strength, Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Cask Strength
No I drink everything and actually drink more rye’s than bourbon 9 out of ten times. On my shelves now it's four rye's to two bourbon bottles. And honestly it's this ratio all the time. Sometimes its all rye’s depending on what I can get. I'm a big Nashville barrel company fan. It is just a fantastic pour. And new to the market is River Roots out of Cleveland Ohio. Some are picks of Micheal Synon the chef. And trust me a chef has a excellent palate.
The only one of the top 7 that I've tried is the Sagamore Spirit BUT I do enjoy the bonded and standard Old Overholt bottles. Willett 4 year rye has a strong finish. Michter's US1 Single Barrel is also quite good. Jim Beam and Bulleit handles are a decent value.
Nathan - forget this nonsense about "rye for bourbon drinkers"!! Us rye lovers don't need to cater to the bourbon-only crew - they are missing out - ask Mike G about it. Anyway - Old Ezra 7 year is fantastic and so is Sagamore 8 year, Michter's barrel strength, and of course the ultimate guilty pleasure - JD SBBP rye.
I'd add Old Forester Rye. A friendly 51% rye mash bill with lots of nice sweetness. It was my first rye and I still enjoy drinking it.
Sazerac Rye is a great choice to begin your rye journey. Delicious, lower proof, relatively easy to find and less than $40.

Just picked up the Green River Rye for 33 beans and it is fantastic. I got it in MD today since it’s not available here in NJ.
