I’d say the only major advantage vault 79 has over Fort Knox is that people don’t know about it and therefore can’t target it.

Perhaps gold bullion was just not a successful currency and since the West Coast started using caps, it was just easier to stick to trading caps instead of bullion.

That journal entry on how Pita brought them all together was legitimately one of the most touching things I've heard in Fallout lore in a long time. Also, it's kind of weird but the tone of voice Slick uses when he says "that's classified" makes me think over the years they've honestly lost track of how much gold is in there exactly, probably because they know they've all pocketed some of the gold after so long and there's still so damn much it grows tedious to count or even bother weighing it day after day after day when all those days blurr together underground.

Why do people care about gold bars 26 years after the war? Like do people really care for gold that much? I can see it being important later but the war just happend.
Gold has been precious since we first crawled out of caves, so makes sense it’s valuable 25 years after the war
@@Kvile-zx4sk I could see it being valuable later on when restablishing an economy, thats how it became valuable in the first place. But so soon after the war when food, water, and amunition are rare and sought after, I would never trade any of that for gold. But thats at least how it would be in the real world and this is a video game. So I guess supension of disbelief is warranted.

I mean the various Enclave stations in Pacific Ocean, Raven Rock and Whitesprings (plus possible others) could probably do it, just seems they’ve become skiddish of the outside world, a whole population of agoraphobics

I think you missed a note, because I found one that mentions the mutiny as post war and being led by an agent named shorty (I think), that resulted in the death of the original AC on the holotape, and naming the current AC (which is the dude you find)

As a native Kentuckian I feel more than a little miffed they emptied Fort Knox in the lore, as honestly vault 79 should have been in Kentucky or Fort Knox herself turned into vault 79

I am really curious of what happens to gold and Appalachia in 100 years? Like what is going on there during fallout 4 events?
Perhaps the fires drive everyone out before they can get the gold. Or maybe the brotherhood of steel. Only time / Bethesda’s writing team can tell.
the gold and story about a new currency was just a poorly conceived idea to introduce another thing to grind in the game to keep people playing.

It probably becomes a new smaller NCR type government as Vault 76 dwellers have built new power armor,buildings,got the right to rule by being declared leaders of the enclave of West Virginia and they have found a currency
