Sofia, I really love your videos, but I really HATE when you put yourself down. You are beautiful at any size or age. STOP all the negative comments because the more negative comments you make about yourself the more down you feel. You are a beautiful person inside and out. As my grandmother always said “100 years from now nobody will care how clean your house was or what size you wore”. Life is a journey and some things are hard, but you are doing GREAT! You got this!

Oh wow. This video was so hard to watch... I went through the very same process a couple days ago, and I have let go things I've been holding on to since I was 16 (and I'm 37 now). Well, you know, all these fancy XS and S pretty dresses, suitable for a young blooming girl, that I will never be ever again. I mean, when I look in the mirror, I still see a twenty y.o. girl, who just finished her ballet school, and I guess I still feel like it, but when I try to fit in things, all of these 15 years of crooking in front of my computer, and with absolutely zero physical activity, well, it shows. So when I had to let go all of these things, I felt depressed, angry, despaired and disappointed. It took me a couple of days to forget about it and let go (or, as it appeared, just shove these emotions deep inside), and now I see you going through the very same process, and all these feelings, they just came back. I admire you! You did it way more gracefully than I did, you are such a lovely woman! And every time you talk about your work, I admire you even more, my Mom used to work as an interrogator when she was in her twenties (!), and though it was for a pretty short time, it left a print on her forever. Your job seems to be even tougher, especially for a woman, and a mother, and a wife, and keeping this girlish laughter that you have, and bright eyes, and love for life, and acceptance of this world and of yourself, to me it seems like a pretty heroic thing, you know? I just love you, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to watch a real woman struggling with an everyday things, like age, or time, or weight, and going through these changes, and it gives me so much comfort and strength to cope with my own things. Love you! Thank you!

OMG this eppy made me laugh - your expressions when things didn't fit reminded me of myself when I went thru the same thing at menopause - in the end I just got used to my new body and embraced it - saved a lot of heartache and deprivation and I always look good at my job. Just love yourself - the size doesn't matter, your kindness to others is what they will remember - not what size dress you wore! I really enjoyed this vid! Good job! ♥

    HEARD A GAME CHANGING TIP.....
If you are deciding to keep clothes that don’t fit store them elsewhere and keep your wardrobe CURRENT.... keep only what fits and feels great so everyday it’s a pleasure to shop your wardrobe. It’s a great practise that has really changed my daily routine and created room physically in my wardrobe and created room mentally for living in the NOW
eventually I will probably discard the big box of smaller clothes as I know they don’t serve me anymore. Sometimes it’s easier to take a little break from them then let them go💕💕💕

Sophia, you are not fat, you are curvey! You are beautiful! Your face was priceless when the blue jacket fit!!! You did great! I agree our bodies change as we age, but you have had a very stressful period in your life and had to wear many hats (ways to make money for your family) plus your oldest is graduating and going off to college, big changes, so your mind has been on other things and not too focused on self!!! You are a wonderful woman and I love your laugh, Scott is funny too!
"Thank you Mr. Bates"....love it!! You are a gem!💎 😉👍💖

I swear I love you!! 😄 Never cease to make not only my face, but my heart smile! You can "ramble" more, if you ask me!!
Rofl @ at the Tommy Boy reference. Your facial expressions when tryin on stuff 🤣🤣 I literally burst out laughing when you looked at the camera at 14:45 - then you said that should be your thumbnail! 🤣🤣 I swear you're freakin hilarious. Hasn't that been all of us!?? That's what makes it so funny! 😆
You did awesome at getting rid of stuff - I'd say that was probably more like 50%!! Something all of us need to do! I hope you enjoy looking for clothes in your closet more now, and thanks for another awesome video! :))

I got rid of all my clothes that don't fit me NOW ! I don't want my closet judging me every time I go to it. Besides if I do lose the weight it's nice to reward myself with new to me clothes (consignment and thrift). Excellent job Sophia !

carrie johnson I agree with you. Declutter the clothes that don’t fit you. If not everyday you look in your closet you’re reminded of the weight you’ve gained. The best thing is buying new clothes when you’ve lost weight.😊

Hi Sophia, I am a fan of yours from Australia. I almost never comment, but I had to tell you that I think you look beautiful and that one’s size is not an aesthetic limitation. The social pressure to conform to a thin body is very strong, and unfortunately society even uses “health” as a way to attack and demean people. I reject this way of thinking. I admire you for your love of decor, your use of texture and colour, and the way you incorporate practical usefulness as well. These are all talents that you may also wish to use when getting dressed every day, and you already do (I think). Last time I visited NYC I discovered a shop called “Universal Standard”, and I recommend checking them out ... I think you’d like their clothes, and it would be amazing to see you celebrating yourself by treating yourself to a few beautiful, perfectly fitting garments that would fit into your lifestyle and would enhance your beauty. Warm regards, Eleanor.

I knew you were serious when the dresses 👗 came out of the bag! I can identify with you, I was a size 3 for a long time and I gained weight and lost weight and I know I won’t be that size again. You are a beautiful woman and what ever size you are it doesn’t change the person you are in your heart. Stress can also be a factor in the weight gain world. Don’t look back , look ahead.

“Two inches of chub on either side”. I died laughing!! That’s exactly how I talk to myself when trying my clothes on while attempting to purge my closet. I’ve needed to lose 30 pounds for 10 years now and my closet is full of “if I only lose 10 or 20 pounds I will wear this”. Loved this video and great job on purging your closet.

I am celebrating 35 this month, I wear no make up and literally can't care less about what I wear due to the way I look and also my values. You did great. You have a mix of seasons. Capsule wardrobes should be per season. We have cold winters and hot summers. 37 x37....you have the perfect amount. Plus winter jackets are outer wear not wardrobe. Rockstar! Don't forget our jobs are to take on everyone's stress process it during the job and somehow recover from the drain to work our home life which requires a job title as well. Stress eating is a thing. Social work = stress eating. I am just a support staff and not carrying your load. It is a tough job and you are a rock 🌟. Going back to classes, working your job, running a side business x2, and maintaining your home is phenomenal. You have raised two great sons with your husband, and you do side carpentry work. Girl you run circles around me. Sending luv your way. Look for the happy moments, we all deserve them.

You say your style is "granny style". I would call it modest and appropriate for your occupation and stage of life you are in. I'm turning the big 5-0 this year and all I wear are sweats/yoga pants and either a short sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt if it's cold. However, I'm disabled and stay home most of the time. As long as my clothes are clean and comfortable I'm happy. I do have a few nicer things that I wear when I have to go out and look a bit more presentable. I still have way too many clothes that don't fit because I have gained and lost and re-gained the same 20 to 30 pounds over the past ten years. So I really need to purge my wardrobe. Hopefully seeing you be somewhat ruthless with your wardrobe declutter will inspire me. Thanks for making this video. I'm loving the D. O. C. series.

Sophia why not have a uniform of sorts for work. Professional work slacks and a tops that all look the same. Then a separate wardrobe for regular wear? Make that your capsule wardrobe. The capsule has 4 seasons of 10 items or more. Jackets, sweaters, dresses (formal), belts and scarves are considered accessories. Great job!

You did a great job. I'm starting to eliminate prints from my wardrobe with some exceptions. Solids go with everything and make a person typically look younger and more put together. You can have less pieces and no one remembers what you wore because they are neutral. I think you can really feel proud of yourself for what you did.

Another great video in the DOC series Sophia! And I have to say you look FABULOUS for being 50 and having had 2 kids as well. I'm 32, my mom is 53 and she looks 53. She'll be the first one to say she didn't age gracefully and her face shows the hard working, tough life she's had. You really do look young for 50 and I really think you have aged well. Your face looks young and vibrant still. And I'm always envious of how great your eyebrows are lol. As my 13 year old niece would say your eyebrows are "on fleek" lol

One thing someone taught when sorting thru my closet. Once you have settled on what you want in your closet turn all you hangers backwards, and only turn them after they are washed. Then after a set of time ( for me 2 weeks), any that isn't turned (the ones not worn) these get donated as well. Hope that makes sense, it helps me a lot.
This video has motivated me to sort out my closet again.
    Tfs.

I don't wear most of my clothes because all the jobs I've had had uniforms, so I couldnt! But I loved them, and they fit, so I kept them. Holy Mackerel! You did great! And, you look beautiful. And... I went back and counted. 😬 That’s 64 items hanging in your closet not including any pants hanging there. Not bad. Having a capsule wardrobe doesn’t mean you have to get rid of the other keepers. You can select from your wardrobe the items you want to include in your capsule. Change it up each season - removing and adding items from your existing inventory as the seasons change. You could decide to hang on the back row - any items you don’t select for a capsule. But, it looks like you’ve thinned out your wardrobe quite a lot.

Yes, it is a lot of work. But it is an emotional job just going thru it. You did great! You don't need to explain so much. I hope you feel better after you donate to people who need them. The amount you choose to have is fine and you don't need to stick to a certain amount just because someone says that is what a capsule wardrobe should be.

Sophia, this video epitomizes why I watch you and love you so much❤️! Like you and so many of us, it takes getting to a certain age (I’m 50 like you) to really understand and believe the truth about these ‘shells’ of ours. Yes, health and well-being matter, but we must truly stop listening to the ‘noise’ of this world around us that bombards us with the lies of physical emphasis to finally hear the truth and beauty of our heart, mind and soul...the only real things that matter. Hello Sophia. I love this video because it is very close to my heart. Initially I had donated a medium sized box of clothes to MAKNA, a cancer charity project. I felt good about it. After watching your DOC series, I did a second round of wardrobe decluttering. I have another medium sized box to be donated. Felt good about it since I am no longer working, I don't need to have too many clothes. Like you said, if there is any specific occassion, then I shall go out and buy a new one. Otherwise I am happy with what I have. Thank you for the inspiration. Keep it up.

I am around the same age as you and am at least two sizes away from what I 'd like to be. With age and hypothyroidism it's an uphill battle. I have heard that once you retire it's easier to lose the weight because you have more time to devote to meal planning and shopping. So maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel after all. You can do it! We each have a funeral outfit that fits us. It is a time that I like to be prepared for. Shopping is usually last on the list for such a time. I start with socks, then panties, nightgowns, lingerie, category by category. We have such a great need in our community for anything. It is imperative for mental health that your clothing serves you well. I am so proud of you. Our climate and work conditions require different extreme weather gear.

I used to get stressed about work clothes, looking frumpy, or fashion trends, or if someone would scoff if I repeated an outfit if I did laundry mid-week. Then a few years ago I just "gave up" and started wearing the same thing every day. It was so freeing. After a few days you realize that no one cares if you wear repeat outfits and that you don't give a rip if anyone does notice.
I have three pairs of work pants and then 6 identical short-sleeve work shirts and 6 identical long-sleeve work shirts, and a handful fo cardigans. Logic is that pants/trousers can usually be worn twice. The only decision I have to make each day is whether to wear long or short sleeves.

Look at Rachel Maddow from MSNBC. She wears the same thing on air every night. She admits she owns two cheap black blazers and usually a black V-neck under it.
      No one cares.

Sophia I'm around the same age as you and can totally relate to your feelings about the weight gain and other things that happen as we age. There are a lucky few that the years are extremely kind to. Life happens and we, as women, as moms, often put ourselves last. But you dear lady I think are a little too hard on yourself. You're lovely and always will be. Great video! I'm really enjoying this series

Hello Sophia, well, this video is so much relative to me. I was size small, worked as supervisor in one of the largest municipalities in Greece and my wardrobe was all about office appropriate and event appropriate outfits ... Then retirment came along with men-o-pose (I laughed so much), I quitted smoking and I lost a very dear person, so, nobody could guess but I am large-Xlarge now since I gained almost 30 kgrs.... I havent tackle my closet yet as I wait for the pink paper from my jar ... Thank you for your honesty and your kindness Sophia, take care !

Lovely Sophia 💜, This was fun 👏. Scott is too stinking cute ❤️. I love the Purple shirt it is so pretty and Edward “Weirdo’s” 😂. What an adorable family you guys are. You did an Awesome job on your closet 👏. My Hubby has more clothes and shoes than I do, he always says buy something or make something you like. My problem is I like clothes from the 50 & 60’s when Woman had style and class and looked and dressed like ladies. If I can find those clothes they are way expensive unless I am lucky enough to find them at Goodwill. I have patterns to make them but then the fabric I like is so expensive too so I don’t make them. I love the blue coat it is so pretty. Break a leg a school 🏫 Remember “You Can Do It “!! We love y’all 💜❤️💕🐶🐶🍼

Excellent job Sophia! Very inspiring! You have encouraged me to clear more clothes that I have kept “ just in case” I gain or lose weight. I have lost/kept off over 80 pounds from my highest weight, and my 2 (seasonal) closets are stuffed with things I don’t wear and HAVE NOT worn in years. Time to let it go. Thanks for the motivation! Love this series. Thanks for all you do. Be blessed. 😊

What a project purging your wardrobe.
May I suggest a color organization method developed by a woman I worked with (Judy Bell) who worked retail display? She called it the ROY G. BV method. Arrange colors (predominant color if it's multi): Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet.
You are so dang funny, Sophia! I laughed at your comments and at your surprise when clothes fit. I'm morbidly obese so you are way smaller than I. But, I began the keto way of eating last November and feel so good. Which makes it difficult to purge my own closet as I hope to fit in those old clothes as I reduce. I'm retired so really only rotate the same few outfits. My dressy days are extremely few and far between.

Dearest Sophia, don't be so hard on yourself. Time goes by and everything changes, bodies, tastes, etc. Us women specially have issues with our hormons gojng up and down, in and out and all over the place. I've got my corporate clothing ( suits mostly) which I never wear as my job is different and it's more suitable to go in jeans and jumpers. Also , I have changed my way of thinking and living. I've got some fancy clothes which I haven't worn for years. An event came up and thankfully I'd lost some weight 😅 and they fitted. But, do you know what? They weren't me, they fitted but I was uncomfortable in them, I felt like if I was going to a dressing up party. So I thought: ok, I've got something to wear but, if from today until the day of the event something that I really like comes up and is in my budget ( quite a low one as my husband had been unemployed for eight years) I'll get it. I wasn't looking for it but it just popped up about 10 days before . A long cotton dress full of little poppies in different shades for only 20 € (I live in Madrid ). It's a dress that I'm wearing whenever I want to as it is casual with some sneakers and bit more dressie with some sandals. The event was my daughter's wedding so there was pressure. Poppies are her favourite flowers 😍 So the best thing for me is to have what makes you feel comfortable and nice. We were who we were but now were somebody else more mature, wiser and still beautiful. For me capsule wardrobes are not numbers. It's a wardrobe that has what you need and love and makes it easy for you to dress everyday and for every occasion. I would tell you to check out Signe her YT channel is Use Less. It may not be your style but she gives you very good tips on how to build your capsule wardrobe. Id lost my style (if I've ever had one 😂😂) and now things are going better I more or less know what I want and need. So I visit my cahrity shops ( thrift stores) looking for the pieces I really want. And if you want to get ideas on how to style your clothes you might also like to check out on YT Emma Radcliff, she's 100 % charity shop buyer and she has these great ideas on how to wear clothes when we have our rounds here and there 😉. Rosie Henshaw also knows how to wear her dresses and jeans. They're both so bubbly and cheerful it's lovely to see them. Looking forward to your next video. Meanwhile I'm catching up from your first one up to now, quite a few!!😅😅 💚💚💚

I have a heck of a time finding clothes myself. I'm in my early 40's and I wear junior girls size 14/16. It's VERY difficult to find clothes without characters, glitter or bling bling on them. I can share clothes with my 10yo daughter. I definitely need to find out what I can wear of hers that doesn't have any of those.

God love you Sophia! I was laughing with you - you are so funny. I've made those faces too when trying on clothes that don't fit. The blue coat looks STUNNING on you - that cut and colour really suits you. Just a thought - would it be possible to somehow add your grandmother's jacket into a 'curio' setting? Maybe hang it in a boxed frame like you did with Scott's navy uniform? That way it is a delight to look at and better preserved.

"I end up looking like a granny; No offense to grannies."
Lol. The best thing I did for my closet was putting my clothes on one color hanger/black and my husband's on another/white and I rotate the season with current to the right and the next season to the left back/forth and that keeps me going thru things at least 2x/yr. The clothes sure aren't what they used to be! Seems like some last just one season and holes in them or repairs. I do seem to like one style over others a lot and if I venture to try something new style, then you know next year I don't care for it. So I just stick with what's comfortable that I like. I think that little variation in styles is what makes me as a 'granny'. But it is what it is, right? If I get something I really like such as a shoe or bra and can't get it again when the 1st wears out, (Which happens absolutely all the time now. These stores it's ridiculous the clothes for sale. Ridiculous! Who wears that?) I have to rant on that one! Ack. So Funny. I do have great luck finding at consignments-most of it is 'tried and true', stylish and good fit. Some with new tags on it. Wow. And, You look Great! XoXoX
