      The 67 is my favorite GTX too. Always liked the clean styling of the 66-67 B-Body Mopars...especially the 1966 base model Belvedere 1/Coronet Hemi cars. The ultimate factory street sleepers. The 66-67 Charger was a beautiful car too

    Thanks, good overview.,..interestingly, I did order an early 1968:ROADRUNNER ( GREEN, DELUXE BLACK INT/FAN declutch/ power steer & Brake/ 4/ SPD/383), as tHE HEMI OPTIONS were expensive for my PHARMACY School budget ( Purdue): though losing my $200 DEPOSIT when passing on the buy( Dealer sold quickly) …these CONVERTIBLES are rare…

    Nice car, i seen a few GTX Back in the day but never a 426 hemi, A 383 or 440 i remember, before i bought my SS454 Chevelle i remember there was a 440 6 pack new they tried to sell me. knowing what i know now i should have bought them all,...

    • @lewisshepard9239
      @lewisshepard9239 5 років тому +1

      Newton Washinton did not make a 383 GTX. 440 was the base engine.

    • @jeremythompson9895
      @jeremythompson9895 5 років тому +1

      Had to be a 440 4bbl That was the standard GTX engine with the 426 Hemi optional. At least in 67-69. I believe the 440 Six Barrel joined the GTX option list in 70-71

    Look at the badging on the front fenders of a 1967 GTX, the tag above "GTX" says Belvedere. The Road Runner and GTX were separate models in 1968, joined by the low trim level Satellite, the Belvedere was dropped in 1968. Saying it's a Road Runner GTX is incorrect, it's just a GTX.

    Lots of "alternative facts" in this video. The Road Runner and GTX were totally separate cars from 1968-71. Only after the GTX was discontinued as a standalone model was there such a thing as a "Road Runner GTX" which is what every 440 Road Runner was called from 1972-74. In addition, the GTX debuted a year before the Road Runner. The GTX was not a fancy Road Runner, but rather the Road Runner was a stripped-down GTX.

    Only 3 cars I owned and love, 65 GTO 389, 68 SS chevelle 396 and a 63 corvette stingray 327 w/ 360 hp.. Have owned a couple c-3 corvettes, both 1975 under powered 190 hp. dogs.

    I don't remember seeing these cars with poverty hub caps back in the day unless it was a six cylinder car like a base satellite.Seems to me that they may have been purchased that way because Mag wheels or Crager SS wheels were put on soon after. Everyone thought the factory Steel wheels were too heavy.
    They made the cars look so much better. I appreciate the factory correct restorations but, that's not how they were back in the day.
    I never saw very many Hemi powered cars at all but, a lot of fast 440s and modified 383's were out there. I wonder if anyone restores or saves cars like that. The ones with Headers, lumpy cams, wild paint jobs, jacked up rear ends, and Mag wheels.

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 7 років тому +1

      +haleydog8 You're probably right, why pay extra to tick for fancy wheels on the options list if you're just going to take them off and leave them in the garage as soon as you get it home from the dealer the first time. I have to say, though, I like the plain Jane wheels, anything else might seem a little over-the-top on this car. As it is now you could lose the Hemi badges, the stripes and the GTX badges and everyone would think it was a grandma car until you blew them into the weeds...

    • @Johnnycdrums
      @Johnnycdrums 7 років тому +2

      I'd change those wheels and tires almost immediately. The car performs better with big fat wide rubber (radials) and looks better with mag wheels. It deserves a four speed also.

    I worked at a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in 68 and 69. We had a Sun distributor machine and I was in charge of building custom distributors and curves and such to suit individual cars and customers. Then we'd check them on the dyno. The GTX was not a gussied up Road Runner. Stripped out

    426 cu in (7.0 L) Hemi V8 were available in late 65 with the vertical letters Hemi on the little front vertical hood ornament that had C Inches for all other versions. Nowhere else was any Hemi badging. SUPER SLEEPERS! One of the techs at the Motorola commercial 2-way radio store had one I serviced and tuned 1/4 ly for him. The GTX was available in late 66 as a 67 Belvedere GTX. Later in 67 it became its own line as the GTX. The Hemi was available and the four-speed was available with the Hurst "dragon bent it" shift lever and with a reverse lockout mini lever. "The Plymouth GTX was an automobile introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the Plymouth division and positioned as a "gentleman's" muscle car." It was only available with the 440 or the Hemi anything else it is a fake build up not a real GTX. Common cheat when GTX is pulling more $ at auction than the RRunner. In mid 68 the Road Runner and its mega winning advertising campaign became available and replaced the stripped out Belvedere. The road Runner came with the 383 RB big block engine. Initially, it was only available with the 383 or the Hemi. Later, the 440 6BBL 440 was added to the lineup as a very stripped out version. The "Six Pack" was only the Dodge version never the Plymouth engine. Everyone still calls both the six pack anyway. The earliest of the 1968 models were available only as 2-door pillared coupes (with a B-pillar between the front and rear windows), but later in the model year a 2-door "hardtop" model (sans pillar) was offered. "The Road Runner of 1968-1970 was based on the Belvedere, while the GTX was based on the Sport Satellite, a car with higher level trim and slight differences in the grilles and taillights.
    The interior was spartan with a basic vinyl bench seat, lacking even carpets in early models, and few options were available - such as power steering and front disc brakes,[1] AM radio, air conditioning (except with the 426 Hemi) and automatic transmission. A floor-mounted shifter (for the four-speed) featured only a rubber boot and no console so that a bench seat could be used." All of this is common knowledge to Mopar Muscle Car People. I'm actually a Studebaker Man. A 63 lark R2 or even better the R3 will beat a 440 RR and a Hemi RR, and a 428 GTO Judge and an SS 427 and be pulling away at the traps. Funny how all of our modern Hot HP cars are using forced induction. For Street/Strip use and Road Course use the Superchargers seem to prevail for race only the turbos prevail.

      Hey good job "copying and pasting" information from Wikipedia, and other sources to come up with a comment. What's the point? Did you look at what you wrote, or, copied? does it look like it makes sense? You should know more or you'd know that some of what you plagiarized is incorrect: No MOPAR ever had a "shift lever and with a reverse lockout mini lever" Believe it. And not even a slant six model "lacked even carpets in early models" As you say, some of what you plagiarized is "is common knowledge to Mopar Muscle Car People", as is information that is wrong, incorrect or just plain bullshit.

    • @oldcelloman
      @oldcelloman 7 років тому

      Bottom line is the GTX was available long before the Road Runner. The 68 and 69 GTX were based on the upscale Satellite while the Road Runner out as a 69 model in late 68 was based on the Belvedere. The GTX was never a "gussied up " Road Runner. From 67 to 70 I lusted after a 68 GTX in an emerald green with a with a white vinyl top; and white bucket seat interior. As to the twin shift levers yes we did have them on some Plymouths we called them his and hers shifters in the service department. (Maynard Chrysler- Plymouth, Imperial and Dodge Trucks of Simsbury CT. They later moved to Avon CT).
      Yes, I searched for wikis that met my memory of the dealership service department where I was assistant. service manager and the official warranty service writer.
      AS to the his and hers shifters; If you are personally claiming I did not work on three different ones at the dealership then you need a plexiglass belly button so you can see where you are going.
      The GTX came before the Road Runner all day long and was not a gussied up Road Runner.
      Being one myself I hope you are not a Concours Judge.

      BTW my mom's friend Helen Wood who we camped all summer with till I was 16 had a 63 or 4 Plymouth Valiant Station wagon with rubber floor mats and never had carpets. We put aftermarket coco mats down to trap all the sand from life at the beach in Matunic and MIsquamicut RI all summer.

    • @nicholasmaher9175
      @nicholasmaher9175 7 років тому

      Get back on your meds. The only Mopar car with 2 shifter was a Dodge Colt (Mitsubishi) in the 1980's. You're just dreaming something up though go ahead and find a picture of it and post it in these comments as a reply, good luck. The GTX was an option package (NOT a MODEL) on the Belvedere for 66-67, that's just 2 years before 1968, then it was absolutely a fancied up Road Runner, from the same assembly line, What the hell are you on about? I should have said Road Runner/GTX about the carpets, what you were saying about a Valient station wagon is NOT relevant when talking specifically about Road Runners and GTXs as the video details.

    • @rosenb37
      @rosenb37 7 років тому

      Chase, you don't know as much as you think you do.
      The "gussied-up Road Runner" comment is merely to suggest that it's trimmed at a higher level than the RR. I am sure the filmmaker knows the GTX came out a year before the RR (yes, the first RR was a 1968 model, not "the Road Runner out as a 69 model in late 68" [sic]).
      The 1968 RR was based on the Belvedere, while the GTX was based on the Sport Satellite, NOT the Satellite.
      And the Hurst His/Her shifter was NEVER factory installed in a Mopar.
