  • 1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX 426 Hemi Convertible-Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #183:
    The letter X has always been kind of mystical… X marks the spot, x stands for experimental, x represents an unknown or even secret stuff like x factors or x files. Today, we’re checking out a 1 of 10 built 1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX convertible from The Brothers Collection, powered by a 426 Hemi V8!

      I'll add that 67 is probably the absolute best year for MCs. Chevelle, GTO, Skylark, GS, Fairlane, Galaxie, Mustang, you name it. The baddest collection of cars ever seen in a single year. Unbelievably, almost all of them being one offs. Simply mind blowing! 68-72 Chevelles, GTOs, GS's, Skylarks aren't bad but 67 is it for me. Much like the 70 Chevelle.... Unicorn. 71 and 72 are shyte in comparison. Even when they were 10 years old, 70 was way more desirable than the 71-72 single headlight jobs. GM lost their minds, they would have saved millions and sold more cars had they simply left the 70 Chevelle unchanged for 3 years. The stupid obsession with the single sealed beam high/low headlights was straight stupid. Nova's already had it, if people wanted it in 70, they would have bought a Camaro or a Nova.

    A friend had a Blue 426 Hemi back in the 80s. I have never forgotten just how cool it looked and went down the road. I knew it was special, but not that only 10 autos were made. I know he kept it the 10 years he lived near me.

    Show me a 1970 Plymouth Fury that has all of the go fast do dads on it so I can remember what I had at one time and thought I could do one even better. All I ended up doing was letting go of a fire breathing monster that I had invested everything and it felt like I way have even given my left nut to the car. A sleeper by all measure. Not a Fury 1, 2, oe 3. This was a plain Jane Fury, p-period. The funny thing was that this car was a company car that my Dad drove for 2 years and then turned it in to go by and either order what he thought he needed for his upcoming work schedule for the next two years, or he could let the company pencil pushers order it for him. That was how he got his first company car and vowed to never allow that to happen again. The car came equipped with just about everything that you could order on a Fury including the 440 Commando with just one big 4 bbl Carter on it. It was fitted out with all the high output upgrades you could get in the car that year and was coupled to the venerable indestructable 3 speed Tourqeflite tranny. It had a split bench and was a two door. The only badging that it had on it was Fury on the front fenders and one thin strip of chrome that acted as a door guard with a nylon center section to absorb other car doors that hit it. It had factory headers with 2 1/4" full duals with a new for the year cross equaling X just after the first section after the headers and extended all the way back under the rear bumper. Why 2 1/4" I don't know. Air Condition, Am/FM cassete player with 6 speaker system. It had power steering that you could turn the wheels with your pinky finger. Power front disc brakes and oversized drums in the rear 15"X 5" rims on the front and 15"X7" steel wheels in the back. There were Sears steel belted Cadillac radials on the front and the back all blackwall tires. Both had the regular moon caps in the middle. Rubber floor mats all the way around solid in the car with a single carpet mat in the back that was really excellently fitted and had Fury in dark Blue lettering on a black carpet. In the front was independent carpet sections fitted for the driver side and the passenger side with the same lettering. The car was one shade of dark blue and on the front license plate it read Ol' Blue. No stripes or any other adornment. This was the only car that I can say that when I managed to bid on the car nobody bid against me because all the guys that worked with my Dad knew that he had ordered the car for me to have my first real good car. I bid $ 300 for this car that had 67K on it, brand new tires, front end gone through about a month prior and a brand new radiator and thermostat put in at the same time as the front end work. Brand new Monroe shocks and everything was completely serviced and had it's tak full of Exxon Super. It looked like a plain, cheap as you could buy one Fury but it had just about anything that came with the most expensive Fury models. This car was not that heavy and the only way you knew you were about to eat dust was if you knew the car or looked at it closely before you lined up on the side of her. It was deceptive to say the least.

    My brother had a white on white 67 GTX Hemi. It was soo cool back then. Unfortunately when he was racing a 67 GTX with a 440 he lost control and totaled the car. On a side note, he then got a 69 SS Camaro.took out the 396 and put in a L88.

    The street hemi was a solid lifter engine and it ended in 1966. The 67 was not referred to as the street hemi and it came with a toned down hydraulic cam.

    • @markg7030
      @markg7030 3 роки тому +1

      The " street hemi" was available from 1966 to 1971. I believe the solid lifter cam was used in 1966 and 1967. The hydraulic cam had the same lift and duration and was used from 1968 to 1971.

    its funny that i just found one of these cars for sale at a classic car dealership a few days ago for $180,000, it still had the numbers matching hemi, and it was done up in copper paint and interior with a white convertible top. It had 78,000 miles on it suprisingly, so it had been driven quite a bit as well

    It looks like most of these cars (and thank you for letting us see them) never seem to be warmed up. I see them being started and we see the exhaust spewing water when the driver floors the accelerator so we can listen to it. They are not my cars and certainly not my money, but it's tough on an engine to be revved and run hard when cold. I shouldn't, but I feel a little pain when I see them lighting up the tires and visible water vapor comes out of the tailpipes.
    I'll shut up now.

    • @DoudD
      @DoudD 7 років тому +2

      Good point. But, as a possible alternate explanation....An awful lot of condensation can accumulate in the mufflers and pipes. The engine could be warmed up but it might take quite a bit longer for the exhaust system to get hot enough to burn off the accumulated water.Most of the videos show the cars being driven both gently and hard. My guess is that the burnout shots are not done with stone cold engines, but, rather, after the car has been driven around a bit. I'm sure Kevin can tell us one way or another.

    14 second times?? Guess again,sir.....If you took it easy off the line,this car would easily run 13.4 or better factory stock on Goodyear polyglas tires......Add 7" wide slicks,come off the line smoking the tires and run 12.7 @ 110 mph STOCK through the mufflers.......The downside was the HEMI balked,misfired and fouled plugs in everyday driving. I had a lot of experience with a 1969 HEMI RoadRunner back in the day.........The rule was,if you knew how to maintain / repair cars,you would love to own a HEMI. If not,the next best thing was a 440 six-pack which was available first in a 69 1/2 RoadRunner. ALMOST as fast as the HEMI in street trim and it behaved in everyday driving............On the 7th day God did not rest,he invented the HEMI.

    • @jeremythompson9122

      Absolutely. The Hemi cars in 1970-71 ran mid 13's and the Hemi was a bit milder in 1970-71 than it had been in 1966-69. This 67 still had solid lifters. Easily a mid to high 12 second car with just a few bolt ons and stickier tires

    Need competition for the Hemis around ya'? Try the '70 Toronado GT with the 400-HP 455 with the W32 package. Seriously, guys. Will you ever feature Rivieras, Toros, El Dorados?? I mean, they can be considered muscle cars, don't they (not-so-compact bodies, I know, but powerful and luxurious they are)??

    • @ToyKingWonder
      @ToyKingWonder 6 років тому +1

      No, none of those are muscle cars. The idea of a muscle car was, at the most, a mid-sized version of a car with a performance engine the displacement of which was typically reserved for full sized cars. When Pontiac put together the GTO--actually a team doing it within GM without the head honchos knowing about it--the maximum sized engine for the Tempest was the 326 V8, not really a performance motor. They stuffed the 389 out of the big Catalinas and Bonnevilles into the car, added a few tweaks, and the muscle car was born. The Chevrolet response was utilizing the mid-sized Chevelle, Nova and Camaro platforms. Ford's was of course the Mustang, Torino etc. During the first true muscle car era, for example, Chrysler used its astonishing 383 and 440 platforms in full sized cars, everything from the Chrysler 300 to the Monaco to the Fury, etc. None of those were muscle cars, they were full sized. Yes, optioned correctly, they could really motivate, and there was some blurring of the lines such as with the Chrysler Letter Series cars, but really, they were not muscle cars. Remember, you can have performance cars, such as the Hurst 300, a Chrysler 300F, a Sports Fury GT, a Bonneville with a 389 and 3 2bl carbs, and all the rest, but they are not true muscle cars.

I drove it to school for two years won the high school drags jr & senior years. and later that summer the idler arm came off at 50 mph and off the road we went taking out fence post and two out buildings my buddy and I were tore all the hell up too from flying debris. was not a panel on the dam thing that didn't have a dent and the front was dam near to the doors broke the shifter off and shoved the trans up through the floor in front of the back seat. my dad pulled the hemi out and put in one of his dump trucks where it lived for the next 15 years. and he use to haul his dozer with this dump truck and full loads . beast of an engine I tell ya. spin that thing to 5 grand with every shift point all day every day 👍 oh and so I know for sure only 6 of the7 , 4 speed cars still remain😂
