    Have a neighbor who built a grain cart for a FFA project, used a top unloading auger from a combine, lots of reach and could unload from both sides. A few equipment reps looked at it at the State Fair, surprised someone didn't steal the idea. It worked really well.
    Hopefully luck swings y'all's way and the good weather holds...

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 роки тому +2

      Cool idea! It would be nice to have that flexibility, but I think you would have to give up unloading speed. J&M has a right-handed cart now, which would be interesting to see!

    Great video once again. As far as grain cart augers go I guess you have to give up some length for the girth😁. Hope damage is minimal on the new combine but I'm sure you already know by now.

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 роки тому +2

      That cart can unload incredibly fast! Not to ruin the fun, the damage is the worst possible option.

    A lot of farmers who bought brand new case combines are having 1 problem after another. Farmers are business men and the farmers who farm with equipment thats paid off are the farmers that make money.

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 роки тому

      I think your statement isn’t entirely true. You can finance a purchase while having little effect on your bottom line. If you’re profitability is dependent on your equipment purchases, you’ve got bigger fish to fry. Thanks for the comment!

    Uhg.. the struggle bus continues. When talking about trying to keep the bushels for each landlord's shares. A general question do most landlord's like the ol 2/3rds 1/3rds. Agreements or x amount per acres.. not looking for specifics, just general ideas.. thanks

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 роки тому +2

      Around here, the 50/50 is the most common crop share agreement. I have heard of a few different agreements, but the even split is what most people use. A lot more land shifts to cash rent every season.

  • @LtColDaddy71
    @LtColDaddy71 3 роки тому +1

    Honestly, subsurface drainage would help the soil remain oxygenated better, but surface would help also. But I’d do some testing and look in to ways to improve the soil structure with cover crops. If you have a deep hard pan that won’t drain, tile is treating the symptom, not the problem.

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 роки тому

      I have always been interested in the cover crops, but incorporating them can be cumbersome. I think the principle of them is solid!

      It depends on where we are farming. For a lot of fields, they haul to one of our nearby bin sites, where they can normally keep up. However, they have to go farther to local elevators on some fields, which slows them way down!

    Is there a (good) reason that the red safety mechanism on the header hydraulic cylinder was not in place when your Dad was under the header area?!?! There was a farmer in NC that just had a close call a week or two ago, when the corn header fell on him. He escaped with a few broken ribs.

    • @joebedinghaus2766
      @joebedinghaus2766 3 роки тому +2

      Looks like the head was not raised enough to be able to use it.

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 роки тому

      The safety is down almost every-time we work underneath the header. I mentioned it to my dad, but he didn't seem too interested since we were closer to the axle. It probably would've been wise to have it in effect!

      @@aTrippyFarmer Thank You for sharing. I am one of those "Safety Nuts" that people sometimes grow to hate. But I grew up on the farm, and then got into Nuclear Power. I have heard a lot of excuses, and can throw the "BS" flag on all the excuses. I was on safety committees and had computer access to safety information from around the world. I would then share some of the info with various working groups. I had a stubborn Step-Dad, and it made more work for me to help keep him safe. The lightbulb moment finally came one day when we were cleaning out a large basement type cattle shed. It was a hot and humid day, and he was overcome by Carbon Monoxide from running the loader tractor all day. They had to take him to the hospital, and it was another few days before he fully recovered. It was then that he finally admitted that he appreciated me trying to keep him safe.
