    After hearing about his brain injuries, I'm cutting him some slack. I had a brother who sustained a brain injury as a result of an accident, and he was never the same again.

    • @HolldollMcG
      @HolldollMcG Рік тому +10

      Traumatic Brain Injuries can be so horrific and devastating. A person's entire personality can change completely. It's horrible. This seems like another case of someone not getting the help and support and resources they needed when it was crucial. Add to that the fact that he was a celebrity, and people just let them do whatever they want and say "well, that's just how he is. Actors, am I right?" Instead of holding him accountable. And I don't mean his victims, I mean his peers a lot of looking the other way instead of insisting he get help and shape up. He's still responsible for his actions, but I totally understand how a TBI would cause significant impairment and lead him down a bad path.

      Yea I got a close family member with a TBI from a motorcycle accident and the way Garys personality change was described sounds a lot like the person I know.
      I will say this at the risk of sounding like a jerk, people in this circumstance usually have options to help them out. The problem is they will ignore the problems or act as if they are being personally attacked if anyone is to suggest there is a problem. It’s a really crappy problem and to be a loved one that only wants to see them get better it makes things 1000 times harder. What’s worse is there really isn’t any real way to get them hep if they don’t want it unless you do something that could violate their liberty in a serious way.

    • @Khaleesi_Of_Kittens
      @Khaleesi_Of_Kittens Рік тому +4

      Yeah, brain injuries are no joke. You're literally unable to distinguish "right" from "wrong" as it applies to social cues and situations. Damaged brains don't process information in the same way healthy brains do and they really don't have that thing that tells them "hey, maybe you shouldn't do/say that!!" They just follow their impulses and have no idea why people are pissed, or disturbed by their behavior.

    • @Khaleesi_Of_Kittens
      @Khaleesi_Of_Kittens Рік тому +3

      @@HolldollMcG Sometimes the trauma is just too extensive to do anything, or a part of the brain may even have to be removed. Something there's just nothing to be done about the fact that they are completely unable to distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate behavior.

    Having suffered from a severe traumatic brain injury I recognize all of his behaviors. It is incredibly difficult to bounce back from it. You have to get help and you have to avoid drugs and alcohol. I wonder if that was his biggest mistake after his accident. By diving into heavy drug use he didn't give his brain a chance to heal. I feel bad for him and hope he gets the help he needs.

    In an episode of Celebrity Rehab Gary got tearful watching himself on television in The Buddy Holly Story. I don't think he was acting in that moment. I saw Gary Busey at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

However, I understood why he behaved the way he did and was really appalled that he didn’t have a regular carer. His drug use was an effort to reclaim something he lost and, perhaps, to find again that spiritual experience he had. He talks about it constantly. That " he was never the same" is just that nobody is every the same once they form a pain-killer addiction. If you go through life with no severe trauma, you really can be thrown for a loop by what drugs they give you when say; you get wisdom teeth removed, or you break a bone. If nobody is around to help you get back moving again, back to your regular regimen of healthy living, you can drift into this lifestyle of always looking for a high.

    I don't think you like New Jersey.
    Gary hAs differently changed.
    I saw an interview with him a few years ago. He made up words and gave the definition to each made-up word. Most of them were pretty cool. They were "Gary" isms.
    Love the humor.
    Always interesting.
    Love the shirt.
    Thank you.
    Peace 💕🇺🇲

    Hilarious 👏. I wonder if things would have been different if he was cast in Beverly Hills Cop in place of Nick Nolte. I always remember that being Bussey.

    Great character actor, but Gary has been in never never land for some time.

    I worked briefly at his accounting firm in Los Angeles while he was in the hospital recovering from the accident. My boss told me she was going into a meeting and was absolutely not to be disturbed. He called and demanded to speak with her, and I had to tell him she could not be called out of the meeting. He cursed me out and threatened me. It was a crappy job all around, so I don't blame him entirely for my leaving, but I started calling him Gary Abusey after that.

      @@cantfindmykeys I didn't say he was my favorite, but he was great in Buddy Holly, Point Break and The Firm...

      @@kellymitchell3138 Yes, I think so, too. In the last two he was good. I didn't see Buddy Holly. But I do think that Keanu (who isn't as much praised for his versatile and stellar acting ability as he is for his real life character) outshined Busey in Point Break. Come to think of it.. so did Swayze.

    Gary Busey was also great in Straight Time, 1976 I think, starring Dustin Hoffman, and additionally with great performances by Teresa Russell, Harry Dean Stanton, Kathy Bates and M. Emmet Walsh. Busey's last scene with Hoffman was moving in its sadness. It's a great movie for those who love great actors, and Dr. Grande I think you'd really like it in its believable portrait of Hoffman's obsessive thief, who tragically can't pull himself away from finding one particular necklace during a jewelry heist, and the heartbreaking consequences that follow (I guess consequences always follow).

    Gary would make a great Crypt-Keeper in a reboot of the legendary show. What a guy!
