I was disgusted to learn about the graphic novel about serial killer Michel Fourniret he co-made, using the experience of surviving victims and changing parts of it for additional drama. He did so after getting close to those women on purpose and gaining their trust , without telling them about the book and not giving them a cent (the book was cancelled after the scandal of his confession of fraud).

    Thank you for this vidéo.
I often think two things about Stéphane Bourgoin :
1 - He is bilingual french and english, and for a long time he relied on the fact that most french people would not understand or read english.
That's true for many french people, but of course there is also a huge amount of us who do understand and read english.
The likelihood of someone selecting both one of Bourgoin's book, and one of the books from the american authors Bourgoin plagiarized, is not that far fetched, if that person where both bilingual and interested in the subject of serial killers. That increased the opportunity to discover Bourgoin's deceit, but somehow he thought he was protected by the fact that he was the only french person able to speak english.... Which was a little presomptuous to start with.
2 - if, in the later years of his career, he hadnt felt the need to include over the top, dramatic elements to his narrative, he might have stayed under the radar for longer.
But the "helicopter and maggots" incident, or his bragging that he had body parts from executed serial killers lying around in his basement ..... (if I am not mistaken, he claimed that prison adminitrations sent him stuff related to executed inmates autopsies, and by mistake included body samples in the package 🙄 - please correct this if I am wrong, as I dont remember the exact details of his story - but the thing is that he claimed to have been sent serial killer body parts, and that these bits of corpses were now in a box in his basement)
I suppose that Bourgoin needed to be perceived as extraordinary, and needed this sort of gory details to boost his extraordinary narrative. But stories like that are just too wild to pass unnoticed on social media, and prompted many people to start doubting everything he said from then on.
Maybe if he had kept a more reasonable narrative, he wouldn't have attracted attention to himself and prompted research into the veracity of his claims.

    Hi Dr. Grande!!
Let me first say that I so love your dry humor and your take on the stories you talk about. I am not a psychological professional in any way, but people with this gift , I find to be brilliant, and those who get their humor, are almost as brilliant!! Although your stories are insanely serious, it is a great thing that you can deliver on both the seriousness of the matter as well as lighting it up!!
With me being from Los Angeles, I would like to offer for your consideration these 2 incredible stories.
    1) Christopher Jordan Dorner, ex LAPD cop who went on a random killing spree in multiple counties in Los Angeles, in Feb 2013. Truly unlike many stories reported.
    2) The Grim Sleeper, a prolific serial killer who went on a 22 yr killing spree and remained elusive. A remarkable story!!
I want to add that one of the things that both of these stories have in common and is pretty rare too, is that these crimes were both committed by black men.
    What do you think???

I remember the beginning of this fandom in the early 80s. It was interesting to read and talk about, but then I went to see "Henry" and I was so appalled , I was off the subject forever. The books of Ellroy are fascinating, but those are almost more documentaries of cultural history. The crimes move the books along but are not the author's real focus.
