I've had my FN 509 since FNH introduced it several years ago. In my opinion it's one of the finest pistols available.

I was gunna get it but heard is really hard to change out the triggers and out the box trigger is like 6 ,7 pounds plus

That gun is a LOT smaller than it looks. It's hard to see, but it's just BARELY bigger than a glock 19 (length and width- wise, other than the threaded barrel it's pretty much exactly the same). The handle is a little longer/ taller on the 509 than a glock 19, which is nice if you have massive hands like I do, it fits your hands better, but overall height is shorter than a glock 17 (if you don't count the suppressor height sights and the two metal wings that protect the rear sight in case it gets dropped. If you take off the plate with the wings and add a red dot and compare it to a glock 17, the 509 is actually shorter and smaller (Oh and of course everything I'm referring to is if you DON'T use the longer 24 round magazine and you're just using the stock 17+1 magazine). The red dot on the 509 sits lower inside the slide for a full co-witness, whereas the glock 19 and 17 sits higher, creating a 1/3 co-witness. So, if you're using a red dot. It's the same length and almost the same height as a glock 19, and the 509 is smaller, both length and height-wise than a glock 17. Width is about the same on both. There is no real noticeable difference between the 3. I mean, there is a SMALL difference, but it's so small of a difference that you won't really notice it, and you'll need to use calipers to tell the difference. Also, because of the threaded barrel, the barrel is about the same size as the 17 in a compact package similar to the 19. So, it is basically something between the 17 and the 19 but closer to the size of the 19. When I wear it, there is no printing (meaning you can't see I'm wearing it). That being said, I am a really tall, big and muscular guy. I actually carry my Beretta m9a4, and still, there's no printing, so I'm probably not the best one to ask on that. But, the holster you use makes all the difference in the world. I use a half leather (on the inside against your body) half kydex(outside away from your body) holster or an all leather holster on all my carry guns and that makes it thinner and it makes it sit lower than a full kydex holster does, making it easier to conceal. Of all my guns I use as an ever day carry(edc), this is by far my favorite and spends the most time on my hip. Now, if you're just going out in workout clothes or a swimsuit and single t-shirt only, I would recommend a glock 43x MOS with just iron sights and the Shield Arms magazine and metal magazine catch upgrade. It makes the glock 43x MOS a 15+1 carry, but keeps it the same size as the factory glock 43X MOS. (This is because the shield arms uses a metal magazine instead of polymer allowing for a thinner magazine wall which lets you fit 15 rounds in the same space as a stock glock mag) Glock 43x just works better with workout clothes and swimsuits that only have the tie-string/drawstring because it is smaller and weighs a lot less. Drawstrings really can't hold much weight. If you're running for your workout, I'd recommend you use one of those elastic belly band holsters in those instances. Only two down sides to belly band holsters is drawing is a tiny bit slower if you practice at it and they collect all your sweat. It’s kind of gross to wring out your holster after a workout. But, it's pretty impossible to run with a concealed carry and just a draw string so, you either need to use one of those belly band holsters or a tactical belt, but the tactical belt doesn't have any belt loops to go through on workout shorts and swimsuits so they ride up and they are very scratchy and uncomfortable. Anyway, that's just a long way of saying I really like this gun, and it's a good gun to use as your EDC.

@donwyoming1936 the fn fnx is bomb proof I have 1000's of rounds through mine both suppressed and un-suppressed and it has never let me down I will say the trigger is about the only thing they could make better the 509 tactical is a great pistol and the 502 is just a fun gun . To each there own my friend
Mine came with one 10 rd mag and a 24 rd mag.
And they were running a promotion where you got $200 on their store if you bought the 509 so I use that and got a 17 round mag and a hoodie

Make sure you change the firing pin and trigger, they’re known for breaking, I had the pleasure of waking up to the tip of my firing pin in my bed, after spending a thousand you gotta pay $50+ to replace those parts it’s a headache tbh

Love this gun so much! Only thing I'd probably do is forgo the suppressor (how practical are suppressed handguns anyway?) for a Comp, and then go to some lower profile sights.
The suppressor height sights are fine and workable, but definitely screw a little with your point of aim-point of impact.
Agree, that’s why i have the standard 509c as my edc, for a bedside gun i have my g17 with a holosun 507c, ive tried carrying my glock edc and it’s not bad but I prefer having iron sights, im accurate and fast enough - the lint. I prefer a reflex site on my pistols only for OWB carry, chest or owb, for iwb, i like my low profile irons, just give me a flashlight

My main carry is a 509c tactical with a delta point pro. It rides hidden even with the DPP and is my favorite carry gun I have ever owned.
Awesome if you desire unreliability. I've owned 3, and have gone through 4 firing pins. A buddy has owned 2, and has broken 2. At the range the other day I witnessed someone break one as well. I love the brand, the platform and the design. Outside of range use this should *NEVER* be used as a carry firearm. You can debate me all you like, and I'm sure people have put 10k rounds through theirs. I call BS, because I've owned virtually every model, and had every single one break a pin.
Can't imagine concealing this every day. I love my glock 19 gen 5.

Yea I had one and sold it reliability is a must for any gun I own the trigger is also horrible I got a canik and had money left over to buy ammo and for a red Dot and light
All firearms have issues when first released, might I remind you of SIGs M17 which was horrendous (discharging when dropped, feeding issues with standard FMJ, ejecting live rounds, etc.) . The striker issue was the only issue and has been fixed on all newer models with a beefier firing pin, however if you would’ve just bought the Apex Tactical striker the first time it would’ve never been an issue again

The stock trigger is brutal, the apex is a must. I had the fn ls edge in my hand at the store. And that trigger is absolute junk. If they need to figure out the trigger situation if there gonna ask higher prices

Looks nice. I like guns that come with extended flush fit mags. The rear irons are incredibly ugly with those side walls tho
You’re crazy. I wish I could keep that with my delta point pro but unfortunately it is part of the optics blank plate. I think it looks great plus it offers some protection in case it’s dropped. I have a CZ shadow that fell out of the holster during a match and it slid the rear sights out of line just enough to cause me to miss all the targets on my next stage. I was able to compensate and adjust on the next station but it took me a solid hour to get them reset right. So they do have a purpose. But I can see how someone wouldn’t like it. Imo they look cool af though.

I have the 509T, mine came with a 17/24 round mags and red dot sight. Got to shoot the first 100 rounds and at least from the first 100 it felt like a cannon, but didn’t leave me hurting after either.

Move out if you can. I lived in FL my whole life. Finally picked up a career and moved to Indiana, they have open carry here and super relaxed laws on firearms. I bought my 509T here idk if I could have done it nearly as easily in FL

@@ColeSlayz I like my guns to be as reliable as possible the least amount of things to cause failures if it's raining and my gun gets water in it's striker channel and just doesn't work is unacceptable. It's a shit gun you've probably never owned it. The other fn 509s even come with somewhat better triggers

The trigger isn't the best or even 5th best but the gun fuks for sure. I always love shooting any 509. Plus the FNX is a soft shooter for a 45. The wife loved it and she a 9mm lady. FN hershel makes a quality gun.

FN as a company is a joke. I had a brand new FN 509C that blew the frame out on the very first time to the range.
Send it in for them to look at it and they said “sorry nothing we can do, you had bad ammunition.”, I asked them if I could pay to have them replace the frame, but they said the only thing they could do is sell me a whole new gun.
Totally disgusted with how they treated a customer of theirs.
Will never buy another FN as long as I live.

It doesn’t have a safety
The trigger acts as a safety. It’s like a Glock, only when you pull the whole trigger will it fire. If it snags on something it’s unlikely (still possible though) to shoot.

It was my first polymer frame gun ever! Coming from 1911s and cz 75 world. Hated it. Would always spit brass right in my face and no one at my range could figure out why. The trigger is a PAIN IN THE ASS to work with if you’re thinking of ever changing the trigger… also there’s the hydro locking issues it’s known for ;although I did not experiment my particular gun. The appearance alone and the fact it’s an FN made me impulse buy it at 750. It felt like a steal. Long story short I traded it for a Sig P226 Navy.
Also the magazine release kinda sucks ass in my humble opinion
Sounds like you got a defective gun then. I've shot many 1911's myself (and definitely prefer them over pretty much any Handgun on the market) but compared to the Glock's I and my friends have had over the years, the 509T just runs and runs. I'd also take it over a Sig any day.
It's also a duty pistol. Of course the trigger is going to be heavy and gritty. That said, I didn't have any problems replacing mine... 🤔 This gun was designed for the Army Handgun Trials, and was eliminated because Sig offered a better deal or whatever.
Anyway, Army's loss, our gain lol.
