I loved watching this battle in '07. I was standing directly over the Risi pits at the end of the race. I could hear them behind me on the Ulmann Straight as they charged into the final turn. When they appeared their headlights made it difficult to tell them apart (*except the Ferrari had 6 lights, the Porsche had 4). When I saw them touch I was afraid they would take each other out. You should have seen the Risi team when Melo's F430 crossed the line first! Best racing I've ever seen.
Porsche vs Ferrari racing at night for the win in an old airfield with fireworks going off in the background. How much more breathtaking can you make it?
Oh man, I remember watching this live and as a Porsche fan it broke my heart. But, it sure is exciting to re-watch, especially with all the fireworks going off.
First time watching this...started imsa during the 2017 season, but THIS is something special...damn wish i was born in the 80's so i would've seen this race live. Still regardless shit my pants. Amazing both gents. Jörg Bergmeister you are a damn beast...sorry you went to AMG, but can understand...A/C in a 150 degree car is important. Keep on killing it mate
@Kw12345ff As an American, particularly one from the midwest, this question has had me scratching my head my entire life. Year in and year out the ALMS produces some of the best racing and most beautiful cars in the world. They are making baby steps into mainstream media with their deal with ESPN and ABC, but they have a long way to go before truly chipping away at Nascar.
That happens alot in ALMS down the final straight in the last lap. Sometimes it ends in a wreck, like at Laguna Seca. Ironically it was Bergmeister that time that spun-out Magnussen just feet from the finish line and sent him into the wall.
Corvette Racing is in GT1, but they will move to the GT2 class in the second half of the American Le Mans Series. It was announced on September 9, 2008.
It's not a secret. Now days the best and more exiting racing it's on GT2 all over the world, it's pretty even and drivers make the difference on the other side it is cost and resource viable... More participants and more cars result more spicy and enjoyable. I hope there's more cars to come.. :-)
Jaime Melo in Risi Competizione's Ferrari F430 GTC and Jörg Bergmeister in Flying Lizard Motorsports' Porsche 911 GT3 RSR likely heard by radios that there would be two laps to go for them. The Audi R10 driver likely also heard by radio that he was one the final lap of the 2007 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Jan Magnusson Really wished that The 62 hadn't done that. Cause it got him wrecked at Laguna at the end of last year when he tried the same B.S. on Bergmeister in the last turn and got shut out and wrecked for his trouble.
I like that idea. This year the European LeMans Series cancelled the last 2 rounds of the year and those cars were invited to the ALMS's Road Atlanta 10 Hour Race instead. A merger would benefit Sports Car Racing.
The Viper is GT3-spec with Hankook tires and some custom parts, the Panoz has led laps in GT2 this year, the Vantage GT2 has only one professional driver and neither have raced on the ALMS tracks, and both the Ford GT teams don't have full pro drivers. The Corvette Racing move to GT2 is official.
What about the 2009 Indianapolis 500? Mario Moraes had contact with Marco Andretti and Marco was very mad. Marco was very fast in the 2008 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Fresh from Florida in Andretti Green Racing's Acura ARX-01b. Moraes finished 4th and 3rd in his most recent indycar races.
Holy shit, that's incredible. This is like watching a movie, just better because you know this is for real. The Porsche entered the corner a tad too fast and the Ferrari took advantage, incredible driving on both parts tho. Too bad I'd rather see the Porsche win. ^^
A small tap as part of any racing incidence is fine. IMO, the Ferrari had been bumping the Porsche intentionally, which is obviously not caused by any lack of grip from the car, it was completely driver intended. It should have been reconsidered by the race committee. But that's them and this one's like four years ago...
Yeah, he was the only one interested in making contact. Melo initiated contact twice. I liked the neck and neck, but it was dirty driving in the Ferrari.
Bergmeister has been in some of the most epic battles in motorsports racing
Indeed
9 years later and I still get goosebumps
si!!!
didi you watch laguna seca's
11 years later same
Was fortunate to have been sitting at turn 17 and watched that beautiful racing. Goosebumps every time.
2021
How I miss the old ALMS...
And what a lap!

That was one of the most exciting moments in sports I've ever seen
Still one of the best last lap battles in motorsports history!
This aged well 😀
@@fahada1921 I really watch this battle once per week. Can't get enough of it 😂
Oh man, I remember watching this live and as a Porsche fan it broke my heart. But, it sure is exciting to re-watch, especially with all the fireworks going off.
I watched this as it happened, still gets my heart going
2021, and ive STILL, never seen 2 drivers SO DETERMINED to win, that they put this much on the line. Amazing what you can do after 12 hours.
Remember watching this live and still to this day it gives me goosebumps, incredible racing
You said it sehinchee!
WOW! This is the race vid of all race vids. Spectacular!
EPIC! Great post! I was on top of my camper on the front straight near the first bridge and loved that battle!!
Bergmister just got another exciting finish at Leguna Seca this year too. Although it was between the awsome new GT2 corvette.
Bergmeister is always fighting for positions, what a race driver!
American Speechers are the best by far... they add a dramatic emotion on the event. Amazing video at all.
i get chills every time I watch this. thanks for uploading
This is the moment when I fell in love with 911s.. after 17 years I watch this and get goosebumps.
that's almost 4 laps of F1 action in half a lap
truly amazing
4:19 Melo did what I do in forza sometimes, use the other car as a wall to keep speed, and I love it!
+Feral Dreemz Wel Forza is a game, this is real racing and Melo shoud have been disqualified.
@@atheist0627 nah
@@atheist0627 Melo's move was clean in comparison. Bergmeister did put Magnussen into the wall two years later and wasn't disqualified.
@@andrewcocos You mean at Laguna Seca? Well Magnussen was the one who started bumping in the last corner.

I would like to know how america's people can love Nascar having a terrific racing series like that... ALMS forever.
i remember watching this finale on tv almost 4 years ago, i remember my heart pounding while watching the epic battle of porsche vs. ferrari
Think this has to be the best end to a race I've ever seen, incredible :)
That was a proper fight there, beautiful racing
You got to love ALMS
Epic battle, historical brand vs brand, that was more then tight.
HOLY COW, what a finish!

this 5 minute clip is better then an entire 4 hour nascar race.
This is probably second to that amazing F1 race!
Holy Crap!! that was EPIC! Now that was a race...
Absolutely AMAZING!!!
Goosebumps!!! Tears of joy
That happens alot in ALMS down the final straight in the last lap. Sometimes it ends in a wreck, like at Laguna Seca. Ironically it was Bergmeister that time that spun-out Magnussen just feet from the finish line and sent him into the wall.
holy shit that was the coolest battle I've seen!! I was all like jumping in my chair!!!!

AWESOME racing, great commentating as well

@Kw12345ff It saddens me when I watch this on TV and see how little people are in the stands. This is such a Fantastic racing series
OMG UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Now this is some serious driving! Not to hate on NASCAR at all but you just don't see this kind of driving there. Talk about intense!
U SAID IT ALL MAN!....:)
gets better each year....
After 12 hours to come down to this. Wow.
I can't sleep after watching that again.
You are totally right. I thought i was the only one with that opinion. Thank you.
most epic battle iv ever seen
The lights show who the leader is, so the fans can know who is leading in each class.
waw... Just WAWWW
No, ALMS drivers settle stuff on the track. The "show" off the track in the ALMS is in the design studio making exotic race cars and production cars.
Gave me goosebumps :)
Corvette Racing have confirmed they will move to the GT2 class in the second half of the 2009 ALMS season.
Yes, just like Vilander at Laguna Seca last year.
The Viper is GT3-spec with Hankook tires and some custom parts, the Panoz has led laps in GT2 this year, the Vantage GT2 has only one professional driver and neither have raced on the ALMS tracks, and both the Ford GT teams don't have full pro drivers. The Corvette Racing move to GT2 is official.
so how did Jaime Melo win the GT2 drivers title in the 2006 FIA GT Championship?
What about the 2009 Indianapolis 500? Mario Moraes had contact with Marco Andretti and Marco was very mad. Bergmeister is a hell of a driver!!!
The Team PTG Panoz has been getting better this year along with the Doran-built Ford GTs, but they don't have two professional drivers in each GT.
oh you Jaime Melo in the # 62 Ferrari F430 GTC?
@redphiveII It was de Corvette that touched the Porsche in the last corner and than run itself in the wall.
Amazing!!!
Greatest rivalry in motor sport racing in my opinion. Ferrari vs Porsche.
Holy shit, that's incredible. This is like watching a movie, just better because you know this is for real. The Porsche entered the corner a tad too fast and the Ferrari took advantage, incredible driving on both parts tho.
Too bad I'd rather see the Porsche win. ^^
who is your favorite driver from Flying Lizard Motorsports?
@StewartHaasNewman you took the words right out of my mouth
Gosh, I love endurance
It had better win an award.
ALMS is awesome!
Lmfao I like NASCAR but that is funny as hell. Great video, great racing. Love the ALMS!
Brilliant racing
What a race!!!
@deezomaxima its Jorg and yes... i was their when he did it at mazda speedway this is so old people....
amazing finish!!!
Man this burgmeister dude is really entertaining great racing
wow - great finish

why thank you, kind sir.
Yeah, he was the only one interested in making contact. Melo initiated contact twice. I liked the neck and neck, but it was dirty driving in the Ferrari.
yea, mine too. that was real epic
the F430 GTC has won more races in GT2 than the new 997 since 2007
Why watch Nascar when u have this?
Melo piloto brasileiro!!
BTCC is pretty awesome, too.
So this is why he spun Jan Magnussen in Laguna Seca in 2009
Yep
That rocked in 5.1
Crazy finish,go Ferrari!!!
Ferrari has still be dominating in FIA GT, ALMS, and LMS this year.
Nascar is cool, but this is EPIC
@elibeli2595 How so?
I LOVE Battles :)
awesome
Forza Ferrari! 🇮🇹🏁🏆🏁🇮🇹
Wow thats some good shit right there.
Lucky bastard that could have been so different of an out come if not for a few inches
Man that ending!!
