@@silverhill377 agreed the bike is extremely versatile and one of the few bikes that can really do it all based on this platform. I’m gonna do a couple fuel range tests this week, one on Hwy at “above Hwy speeds” then one on fire roads and mixed in two track. I haven’t really tracked the mpg yet but it just seems to go through the fuel faster on a same route as other bikes I’ve had in the past. Always a trade off, more fuel, more range but more weight bulkier bike etc The bike is definitely fun to ride which is the root concept of owning a bike in the first place…
@@jrhaines30 your spot on, and realistically yeah the more we ask of the motor the more it gets thirsty! Most of the manufactures will list it on the brochure “55 MPG in BOLD” print then right below “on closed course going 50 mph” in the fine print, but yeah i think everyone wants the ability to go further, get off-road deeper and fuel consumption will hinder that at times. Off-road you don’t have to be going fast, wheel spin with loss of traction or the wrong tires can and will emulate that at slower speeds and still burn up that fuel. As i mention in the opening statement of this video "I love this bike" and I agree with you riding many platforms and working in the motorcycle industry for 22 years and working specifically with the ADV and dual sport platforms over the past 8 years plus in the industry i do feel this bike is a great platform and in capable hands can do almost anything even in stock trim. I feel that some people will never even need to modify this bike to enjoy their experience depending on where they intend to go, and some with your or my motorcycle backgrounds and experience will most likely build this bike out to suit their preferences which should make this one of the best all around bikes on the market with very versatile on and off-road abilities and all around less gizmos and gadgets to worry about.
To buy a new ADV bike and expect it to have top level parts is unrealistic, no matter the brand. I always plan on spending an additional $3-5K to build a bike that meets my needs. I just watched your review on the Tenere, I get where your coming from and get the humor. I’m looking into getting one as a more capable ADV bike. I bought a brand new DR650 in 2022, and pretty much knew that I was going to make a lot of upgrades. And you’re right, many things on my DR sucked. I haven’t added up the cost of all the upgrades, but it’s way more than I should have paid. But, I’m pretty close to getting exactly the bike that I wanted. There is not much left that is stock, and really that’s part of the fun of buying and owning a motorcycle. I just consider any bike I buy as a canvas that will allow me to build what my vision of the perfect (or close to it) bike is. Kiwi here as well, you are right that we all have different needs, but Yamaha don't need to change it to suit you , you need to buy a bike that suits your needs, this was never designed to be a long distance ADV tourer, more for guys that want to get out the back with minimal tarseal, it's ideal for me, I even find the seat pretty good. @@KenDavis-u1v The tank, seat and carrying space on the back of the seat is bigger on the T660 frame. The only thing T660 would need is a flatter seat and the T700 engine.
In NZ, this bike is totally overpriced. The exhaust bracket being directly linked to the frame doesn't sit well with me. Underpowered and not a long distance adventure bike. Mileage, NAH!!! a GR8 RELIABLE MOTOR BUT THAT IS ABOUT WHERE IT ENDS FOR THIS BIKE. YAMAHA REALY SHOULD MAKE A CHANGE TO THE SEAT FOR LONGER DISTANCE RIDES. The suspension is also not up to parr. @@2631Fred if it was up to me I’d still be hanging on white knuckled running my ktm 690 enduro, but some health issues make this very docile t7 more manageable in my current condition.
With a few mods, larger fuel cell, suspension upgrades, high bend exhaust pipe, gps, taller seat, decent skid plate l, some auxiliary lights and then this thing will do what I’m trying to accomplish with some motocamping, basic exploration and some commuting, but it’s a bit underwhelming right out of the box…
I've ridden the 900 Rally pro, it's a beautiful bike ,supreme suspension etc but it's just not suited to my style of riding. Only thing I'd change in mine is the suspension, a revalve or something.
@@silverdale3207 Pretty sure i never mentioned Yamaha stopping by my place to custom design their next public offering off my desires?
Every bike is built around feedback from test riders, general public, industry trends, financial gaps to fill for consumers etc, so this bike is no exception to what every bike manufacture has been doing before either of us were born.
Every bike requires customization to suit each riders desire and yes this bike can be a great long distance adv bike with a few mods.
Contrary to popular key board warrior beliefs on the internet most world travelers do it on much smaller bikes due to ease of operation parts availability, world wide support of maintenance or repair needs etc, so yeah smaller bikes especially with less electronic functions are actually the popular route for long distance riding and exploration.
