    As I am spanish, it is always so good to hear non-spanish people talking good about this game... For me it is the best game we have ever created, though Commandos is the most famous and another masterpiece.
    I have completed this game over 20 times, all of them extremely entertaining and rewarding. The best character for me Zoey, and the worst the knight (mostly bc paladins and the like are always boring for me). She is a killing machine that can be absolutely untouchable by the enemies. I do agree Blade it is a precursor of Souls like and it also had incredible light and shadows effects for the time. I am astonished you have talked about how much you can cut your enemies, but not mention the idea of grabing their arms and use them as weapons xD. Another thing I have to tell you, is that every character goes through every single stage aside from the initial one that is unique to them. And there is a last secret stage only accesible if you find all the runes

      I LOVED playing Sargon (the knight). Like you, I have finished this game about 20 times too and only one of them was with Zoe. I think she moves too quickly, is too OP, and the combat system therefore doesn't flourish. The knight is all about the good balance between defense and offense. Tukaram the barbarian is about offense and Naglfar the dwarf is about defense. I loved playing Naglfar too, because in the end I believe he is the strongest. If he gets a hit in with his short arms, the enemy explodes into pieces. Severance is my #1 game of all times. I wish all devs from RebelAct the best, especially Juan Diaz Bustamante. I'm even in the credits: "Vinnie the Great", as I was on their forum for months/years before release anticipating this game ❤❤❤

    • @FalkFlak
      @FalkFlak 19 днів тому

      The Barbarian is my favourite as he fits the atmosphere the best, imho and has the most bad-ass moves. I also find Zoe kinda boring as you can only do so much with a spear.
      It's worth to mention Severance had exceptional water graphics effects that were years ahead of it's time. It's hard to grasp today if one weren't there at release.
      They could have done so much with a Severance 2.
      Just found out RebelAct went on to become MercurySteam who worked on Metroid Dread and Samus Returns. Both Games I own without knowing and they also are exceptional. Seems talent and creativity comes up on top at the end.

    Awesome! Now... DO HERETIC 2 NEXT. YOU HAVE TO. THE UNIVERSE YEARNS YOU DO IT
    Seriously now, to this day is one of my favorite games and such a freaking big underrated gem and its very much in the ballpark of Severance, almost the same age (its from 98), graphics style, a lot of the vibes and quite advanced and a bit brutal in its own way.
    The game have a quite unique and refreshing combat compared to modern games, closer to old star wars games (wich were inspired by heretic 2, same devs, but i like Heretic 2 better)... you aim almost like a shooter but its melee, bu then it have 8 directional acrobatics/parkour that feed/mesh greatly with the melee, light combos, all sorts of tricks, unique world setting and enemies, and insanely fun magical weapons and spells. A pro player could dodge, jump over, backflip or wall jump over a couple of enemies while slashing half and shooting with magic the other half. In many sense it was 'a bit' of a souls before souls series- no lvl or stats, no stamina or bonfires, but labiritian huge metroidvania levels and since enemies positions were fixed and it could be quite hard you start learning from dying and later ninjaing encounters.
    Heck now that i think about it theres even 2-3 whole chapters where for story reasons the hero becomes almost like a souls character without humanity until he can heal himself.
    Fgs one of the spells throws a spike ball bouncing ahead that grows in size with each bounce to a medium freaking boulder and you can cast repeateadly. Or a bow where every freaking arrow makes rain blood and and lightining in an area. That #$% would be like expensive mana spell to a mage class in some run of the mill fantasy game, in Heretic thats every shot of the blood bow. Buff magician Corvus could probably eat most buff protagonists in his breakfast while feeling sad and in dispair for doing it (its his thing, dying world dark fantasy)- while covered in bloody wounds and the blood of his enemies. Oh and theres inidividual limbs dismemberement system.
    And it features the most original elf ever- a BUFFED and UGLY elf. NO ONE EVER DID THAT- but Heretic 2, inovating in breaking with fantasy steriotypes back in 1998
    AND ITS FREE NOW- sadly- because its abandonware.
    Just look it up on google and youtube.
    To me personally theres no bigger hiddem gem then Heretic 2.
    Have you already visited the chuch of Heretic 2? You should give it a try. We dont promise an afterlife, but we promise dying having played Heretic 2 is better then never experiecing it.
    Pray be Raven (of old), and my god shine on its founder souls for someday an Heretic 3...
    Anyway, TLDR: id recommend Heretic 2

    The secret of good meele fight mechanic in this game rely not only on accurate hitboxes.
    Every weapon partically swords have different point of impact (power) in particular weapon part. That being said, slicing opponent merely by tip of sword causes less damage, than landing a hit by this part somewhere near middle of blade. The same goes with part near handgrip- player just bump opponent rather than cutting.
    Cool, isnt it?
    And its almost 25 year old game.
    That physic based meele combat was also very good in Die by the Sword and Draconis:Cult of the wyrm Dreamcast game (in fact, based on the same engine as Die by the Sword but simplified).
    And now we have Half Sword and everyone excited.

I had like one pal with a PC capable of it and by the time we managed to whine new rigs out of our parents pockets it rained cool games like Deus Ex, Morrowing, Gothic etc. The 2001-02 bracket was just that packed with great games and hardware was evolving like crazy so keeping up was a real issue.

    For the vampire boss, use the backslash to punish.
    Each character has it.
    Edit: also, did you get the true ending?

      I did! He retaliates immediately though. He's very easy to kill actually, with just a couple of special weapon attacks. Got me a few times in the beginning with the teleport bullshit.

    • @TheFailureIsYours
      @TheFailureIsYours 21 день тому +1

      when he starts teleporting all you do is backslash and if you time it right he won't even touch you - he'll get staggered and will teleport again

    • @MalakSaesmus
      @MalakSaesmus 21 день тому +1

      @@TheFailureIsYours Yep, it's one of the easiest bosses to deal with.
      Meskalamdug gave me usually the most problems, because he's kinda large and has good range, but I usually just out-dps'd him.
      And the true ending is just all about finding the 6 keystones and beating the Abyss level and killing the Lord of Darkness.
      Edit: also, the fully charged Sword of Ianna just eviscerates bosses with it's special attacks

    I played demo of BoD, the game was making huge impression back then (dynamic shadows, physics).
    But combat, except some ideas (progression system, unlockable combat moves and combos) had a lot to desire comparing to Rune.
    Without joystick or pad, it was hard to perform more than some basic moves.
    I remember this "dodge attack", merely few attemps succeded on keyboard.
    Must check it out since I have joystick now.
    Combat was a lot dynamic, fluid in Rune. Too bad without rpg elements like this one had.

    Ι have this game and have finished with all 4 characters several times. It's a pity you did not play with the knight, as he is the most technical of them all , with the most combos and advancement. The Amazon is the fastest but has the least health, but she has like 3 combos max, the dwarf has the most health and is fairly tough but is slow as hell and his moves are incredibly basic and the barbarian as you mentioned, is kinda slow, but he has the second best health in the game and also the highest damage potential.

    Yeah baby!!! The combat mechanics are just the best! I really thought this was the way fantasy games would go - but, sigh, they didn't. Then WoW came out and I knew we were doomed. We had twitch combat in fantasy and we replaced it with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1, 3, 5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 combat mechanics. Thank god for the Soul's games picking up the twitch fantasy mantle again! All's well that ends well.

It feels more like an action-ified Gothic than Dark Souls to me. Playing on M+K is far better than controller, IMO.
