Pro Tip: Flip the Dexley over, take the 3 backrest screws out. Next, take a metal drill bit, and lengthen the adjustment slots, so that the backrest can be moved in up to 1.5" more. This provides a better upright seated position. Also, if you add locking washers under the screws for the backrest you just drilled, face the thickest part of the locking washers towards the back of the chair. This actually angles the backrest a little bit more forward when secured. If you do both of these tweaks, you'll appreciate the chair much more.
Update: ended up selling the dexley. Tried a Herman miller aeron size b for 3 months. Wasn't a big fan of the mesh and lined plastic (can't put feet up). Got the steelcase gesture (Wirecutter's top chair). This chair is amazing. So happy with it. Paid $850 tho so def not cheap. My work paid for it 🙏.
Yea I never understood the hype of the Aeron chair other than it has the best armrest in the market. I even started having back pain with the aeron chair, and that’s with the lumbar support.
I adjusted my hyken chair by adjusting the back rest sleeves with an Allen key and pushing it as far back as possible and its 100 times better I’m 5’9” 150lbs
2:45 Sitting with your legs on the chair puts a lot of strain on your knees which is weird since it usually feels comfortable. I recently sprained a ligament in my knee and I'm pretty sure it was partially due to sitting like this. Just something to know! :)
I came into my local Staples specifically to get the Hyken but ended up leaving with a Dexley. It was 20 dollars more but I wasn't boxed in super hard by the arms like I was with the Hyken. They were both EASILY the most comfortable chairs in the whole store though, even beating out the meme gaming chair that they had. Was worth it 100%.
@Caleb J I am about 5 foot 8 and I have it. it is really nice and has really nice back support for working at like a pc. I acutally perfer the hyken over the dexley but it is best if you try both
I have had my Dexley for a week now. At first it was amazing. However, the seat frame on the sides of the seat made my hips pretty sore after about the first hour of use. I just couldn't get comfortable after that. Slapped a nice cushion down over the seat, and presto... KILLER SEAT!!! I tightened up the recline tension to the max, and it more or less the negates the play in the backrest while in the locked position. I'm 6'0" and the headrest is just short and too far back while upright, but when the chair reclines, it is perfect. Pretty awesome for $149.
walked in a staples today to try both... Im a similar build as you, basically the dexley is too clumsy and I hate the lack of recline lock, while the hyken is too short for my height (width perfectly fine though), although I couldn't try it without the headrest. The headrest in the hyken is unusable for my body type... it feels to me that staples needs to come up with a dexley sized hyken, if you know what i mean: The exact same design as a hyken, but for taller folk. The dexley just has too many design flaws to justify purchasing....
....the Dexley was supposed to be JUST THAT but they cheaped out on the manufacturing in later years. I've noticed the chairs they make today aren't as good as chairs they've made 4 years ago
I think the perfect combo of the Dexley and Hyken is the Tempur Pedic 6450. I just got it yesterday after trying out the Hyken and Dexley at Staples and the Tempur Pedic chair is the perfect combo for me. It has an adjustable base, adjustable armrests in height, a headrest, tilt back and lock, and adjustable lumbar.
The issue with the Tempur Pedic 6450 is that the bottom where your butt meet the chair is not mesh…..your butt needs to breathe freely for long work/gaming sessions.
Fourth week working remote from home and I’m already going for the fourth chair. Bought the Dexley and hated so much… my son has the Hyken but I have a question, when I put the UN59464 you posted, I get the Hyken with the neck rest part. That’s the one I see also when I go staples. I really hate the neck rest and will prefer to have a chair without that. Not sure why the one you are showing doesn’t have it but the item # shows with it
My only question is that I have a cat, and It loves resting on my chair. Sometimes when she jump up to the chair she doesn’t quite make the mark and likes to dig her nails and pull herself up. Can I even have this chair?
This answer is probably useless 6 months later but... My room mate has this big fat 15 lbs ginger cat that tries to literally use the netting of my hyken to sharpen his claws. The netting ends up being durable enough to handle it. I've had my hyken since January 9 2020, so it's been 2.5 years.
I'm 5'6 3/4 so the arm rest doesn't go down far enough when my feet are flat on the floor at a 90% angle, I think my arms aren't long but I may have a shorter torso. The problem is it hunches my shoulders up because the armrest doesn't sit low enough for me.
Hyken for me felt like a kids size chair, and the Dexley was also, a bit small feeling... I am only 6'1 and the headrest was too low... the slight lean it has is super annoying and promotes slouching to get comfortable. the construction it, well, is very confusing, why have adjustment screws for the seat bottom if the bar gets in the way, causing me to sit on the plastic frame. very disappointed after seeing these great reviews for it...
Zero chances it fit 6'4" properly. It doesn't even fit the presenter quite right and that's a 5" difference. Us tall folk really are kind of left out right now. The best 6'2"-6'6" chair I've found is the Workpro Momentous, but it's a foam/cloth seat...bleh.
I feel like you have the two names mixed. I just bought the Hyken and it looks exactly the chair you keep calling the Dexley. Maybe they did a revamp since March?
damn i didn’t find this video on time, I bought a 4000 series chair for my room but then went to IKEA and bought their Markus chair, now im stuck with two chairs bc idk what’s good
All the ones that I've seen have headrests but on the Dexley that I bought the assembly instructions showed that the headrest that came with it was optional. I'd guess that maybe he just didn't put his on for some reason.
@@bullpuppy7455 thanks just ordered it on Amazon, I won’t bother installing head rest. I do talking head shots on my channel & rather not have a headrest show on camera.

I own a Hyken, they're better than most gaming chairs. More breathable, more ergonomic, mesh is also softer than the faux leather and hard paddings most gaming chairs have.
@@Fryerstarter Yup, you'll be good. Still using it to this day. It's held up well, and just as comfy when I got it. I am a bit taller though, so I bought a longer gas cylinder just so my knees wouldn't be pushing upwards. But you should be fine at 6'

At my work they use HONS and All Steel brand (not full mesh). Very comfortable, but they don't make those chairs any more :(

Nate according to other videos the armwrest width can be adjusted at assembly for the dexley
The Dexley looks nicer, but I'd prefer the ability to do a 90 degree upright position like the Hyken. Oh well.
It's a game of tradeoffs
I think the hyken would be better for me since I have bad posture and want the 90 degree angle
Hey Nate, Buy the Dexley and the Hyken. Assemble the Dexley using the base plate from the Hyken.
does this work?
It's interesting that the website lists the Hyken as not able to recline, but says that the Dexley can.
Went to staples, the Hyken can recline pretty well.
I have the Dexley and I love it!
Very helpful review. Thank you!
the staples carder mesh is not bad, i think the headrest option should be added to the carder mesh and it would be the better chair
Kroy is a better chair with a higher ergonomic rating. Carder looks impressive with all the controls but has a lower hours of use rating.

the dexley arms can be closer you have to push them in b4 u screw them

do you recommend the dexley for smaller people? And by smaller I mean 5’
