- Hyundai launched their N performance label in 2012, and eight years later, they selected IONIQ as the name dedicated to full battery-electric vehicles. Now in 2024, these two sub-brands are coming together for the first time in this Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. Sounds like a good plan to plug in and go!

Actually, compared to most Performance EVs it's actually priced about right, or even cheaper. Many performance EVs sell 2x or even higher. (Porsche, BMW, etc...)

that thing is extremely fast, i am amazed at how fast that launches like a rocket. Hyundai has really did gone bonkers.
The only sub $100k electric car made that’s geared towards driving enthusiasts and it’s a small suv. I applaud Hyundai. Teslas are such one trick ponies by comparison.

this is a hatchback not a SUV. A suv doesn't have 6 inches of ground clearance.
@@fredrce my sincerest apologies.. it’s a little wagon. Feel better? Hatchback only refers to how the boot opens as in a hatch or a trunk and the typical “hatchback” is a much smaller car. Don’t know if you’ve actually seen a 5N in person, it’s not small.

Could this be the best car on the road for under 100k? What thrills! (and utility)
Three things that stand out to me even before they got to the test track: I like exterior styling, the flat cornering, and that sporty steering wheel. The steering wheel, imo is a nice departure from many EVs. Motorweek had more fun with this EV than most. Hyuandai is doing a lot better than Kia.
The steering wheel even feels nice, very high quality materials.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is a very impressive car, impressive EV and a impressive Hyundai. The looks, sound and performance are all impressive. Consider me shocked.

The Koreans are doing very well in the automotive industry. I would like to see build quality come up a bit, however I don’t think it’s a deal breaker.

Imagine if you encounter a emergency maneuver situation on the road and this car has far more possibility than other similar cars to save your life however you handle this car to avoid that situation.

Love the performance and all; but what is the review on ride quality? Interior comfort? What is the weight of the car?

Heavy
Just about as comfortable as the regular Ioniq 5 in normal drive mode and more comfortable inside because of the supportive front bucket seats. Heavy like all EVs at 4800 lbs but doesn’t drive like one.
Ride comfort is adjustable with the suspension, soft comfy normal setting and very stiff sport+ setting
Fake engine noises, fake tachometer and fake shift points? 🤢
Pollution, high gas prices, oil changes?
@BioniqBob if you are going to have an electric car, it should sound and feel like an electric car. All this simulation is equivalent to 4 cylinder combustion cars that pipe in fake exhasut sounds thru the speakers and simulated shifts on a CVT

The praise John Davis gives is praise enough for me! Though a bit disappointing in the lack of a full set of gauges, such as a voltmeter. Especially in such a performance-oriented car 😂

@@HondAcura111 have you driven a Kona N? The thing is on rails from factory and it’ll give you an extra 30 whp if you put 93 gas in it. Mine is at 320whp at the moment.

The simulated motors and shifting is genius. One day people may laugh about this but it's just great... For this budget class it would make it the only choice for me

where are the brakes numbers? How far or how short were the breaking distances? What's the weight of the car? Didn't like your jumping to conclusions without numbers to support it.

Very cool halo car for the brand as we enter the EV age. A Model 3 Performance competitor, but more well rounded and with actual emotion

For the money, this might be the best value ever. Only caveat is range anxiety.
I think a lot of people could make the excuse to just charge it a little more often to own this special car. Hell, I’d rather it have 20% less range still if that shrunk the weight another 300 lbs

I bought one because it checked ✔️ All of the boxes for what I would want in a car.
Weight is not really a factor with this car, because it's not a race car. But it's still Very Quick, and handles amazingly!
And as far as Range Anxiety,
I have none.
When driven normally, and consciously, my fully charged N will show 265, and my highest was 285 of Range.
And this is without trying to Super Hyper mile the car.
This has been confirmed throughout the web by other channels that has tested the N.
Do you drive more than 220 miles every day? I would not take it across the US but for everyday use it’s fine.

great car the only thing i have a hard time digesting is i would lose my mind if I had to wait at a refueling station in my ghetto ass city for 18 minutes. I gotta have a swivel on my head for the few minutes it takes to put 10 gallons of liquid fuel in my Altima, on full alert for annoying pan handlers, thieves, and the man at the gas station that's screaming at the top of his lungs and punching at the air.

fake engine noises are sort of a slap in the face to the idea of a performance EV, it's just emulating the thing that is -supposedly- inferior.
one of the best features of teslas years ago before it was removed, was setting the AM radio to a specific station so you could hear the induction sound of the motors. we don't need fake ICE noises, high speed electric motors sound great on their own!
It's an option in settings. Options are nice. That way, people with set opinions can choose to avoid or use as they each see fit.

It simulates gear shift too, also using regenerating brake to work as differential when it corners, also Brake will last in Racing.
YOU may not want it, so YOU have the option to turn it off. Others who want the sound can have it, unlike Tesla that doesn't give the option.
I bet the ride quality on those 21" wheels is absolutely punishing. I'd replace 'em with something smaller in diameter, if they'd fit over the brake calipers.

Nope. It’s very comfortable almost as the same as regular Ioniq 5 but more European tuned suspension, more stable without the up down motion on undulating roads

Hyundai is the Toyota of the '90s.
90s and early 2000s Toyota/Lexus were the pinnacle of well designed, well built, reliable, and easy to maintain vehicles. Bean counting, govt regulations, and planned obsolescence mean no mainstream brand will ever replicate that standard.

@@bill4632 Yes the Sonata 2.0 engine was junk but the turbo one in the Gencoupe was fine and the newer 2.0 turbo is a much better engine.

There are dealers that are offering at msrp. You just have to look. No one is buying 5N in droves. Soon you’ll be able to get it below msrp. Hyundai dealers unfortunately are some of the worst like my local Toyota and Honda dealers who will charge $15-20k over msrp for Type R or GR Corolla.

It sits an inch lower? No thanks. There is already a lawsuit in Canada where an owner of a regular Ioniq drove over minor road debris by accident and scraped the battery at the bottom - about a few inches of damage to the outer casing. Hyundai claims the entire battery was ruined and said it would cost more than the car to replace it. Insurance refuses to cover it since they disagree with Hyundai's definition of a 'ruined battery'.
Stand by your products or don't sell them.

My local dealer has one in the showroom with a $74k sticker. Sorry, but if I'm spending that much it'll be on a Stingray that'll be a classic in twenty years vs nearly worthless e-waste. They also had a row, at least a dozen regular Ioniq5 and 6. None of them under $54k and none with real leather. No thanks

A: the V8 power plant is one that's easy to work on by almost anyone and has plenty of parts support, also it's now mid-engine, so in terms of handling it could very will be just like how an old Ferrari or Porsche still technically handles like "a Ferrari" or "a Porsche" (ie, regardless of their age these designs benefit from having all of their components in the best possible locations). also the proliferation of EV's (such as this Hyundai) will only add to it's "classic" status.

There's a reason Hyundai/Kia are and will remain bargain basement tier, try as they might. Own one for more than a couple years and you'll understand why Toyota and Honda have the sales retention and loyalty they do. Gimmicks and polarizing/awkward designs don't last. And endless news stories of spontaneous combusting cars doesn't help! Quality does.
That’s an incredible amount of energy-and transfer via charging-wrapped up in that package, you’re strapped in behind electronically locked doors. Seeing battery fires gives me a strong case of the ‘nopes’.
