People keep saying this car is too expensive vs M3P but keep in mind you're getting a daily practical crossover + a very capable track car for that price. For the M3P to come close to it on track it needs a few upgrades (cooling and brakes) so prices will be similar in the end. The M3P is great if you're planning to just do road, the 5 N is great if you plan to track it.
Hyundai are growing exponentially in the UK due to their new approach to their cars, especially their Electric cars. We also get the i20N and i30N which are good fun cars. This Ionic 5 has been very popular, the N model has really excited people. Model 3 gets a lot of crap in the Uk for its fit and finish, plus the whole lack of storks/buttons/instrument cluster really puts people off. See far more electric cars of other car brands.
I am a Hyundai owner from soon after when they started doing that and I don’t see how I can never go back. and I’m really surprised other cars that have both the 360° camera and digital dash aren’t doing it unless they have a patent or something
The N is for Namyang which is their headquarters for this division or Nuremberg which is where they did all of the testing of this line. I have to admit I love the look of this hot hatch. Also they are going back to full cockpit experience but yes with full cockpit mode comes the inevitable helmet fire of too many options and searching for what you need, but once you put some time into driving the car you will get the lay of the land. But as of right now this is my favorite EV. Hyundai used to be thought of as junk but now they are one of the most reliable with one of the best warranties on the market. They have truly gone to that next level.
21:19 What BEV competes with 5N at the price? Not M3P, which has brakes that will literally catch fire and derate power down 50%m on a track. M3P can’t handle like 5N that can rotate under throttle, drift, or even brake anything close the 5N with its 0.4g of regen braking that seamlessly blend in with friction braking. 5N can lap the Nurburgring twice full power with no issues. M3P wouldn’t make it half around the track without brake failure and overheating its battery. If you really want to compete with the 5N, you need to go up to the Taycan Turbo S, which can only lap the Nurburgring once. There is literally no BEV that competes with the 5N at its price.
Let’s face it how many normal people actually track race their car or drive so hard they smoke their brakes. I’d rather be seen and buy a 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance than this boyish hot hatch 😂.
i agree with last statement. M3P is 58000 euros I5N is 75 000 euros. they are not comparable price-wise. If you went with ioniq 5N - and use it as a daily, youll be reminded by it's terrible efficiency compared to tesla. When you take it to track once per month you'll enjoy ioniq (like 1% of time driving it). also both cars will EAT tires on track ...
If we're being real the new taycan has everything beat when it comes to looks, interior, and performance. The 5N looks like a blown up child's RC car. The model 3 looks like the most bland dull basic traffic car ever. But people will still defend both cuz they can't afford a taycan. I get it.

Checked the Pike's Peak stuff. Both the 2021 Plaid and the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec were Out-Of-Spec projects with Randy Pobst as the driver each time. The time for the N was 9:55.551. There was a higher spec model from Spain that ran 9:30.852 The Plaid did not run this year. Last year it ran 9:54.901. So Randy missed beating his Tesla time by .650 seconds, but really less than a sneeze. Last year had major weather issues. I don't know what challenges they had this year. Above are the official times from the Pikes Peak website. I also got this quote from an INSIDEEVS article that states: IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec wins the exhibition class with a record of 9 mins 30 secs, while IONIQ 5 N follows with an impressive 10 mins 49 secs result. I think 9 minutes 56 seconds is even more impressive.
Just wanted to correct you, the one that ran the 9:30 was the same build as the one Randy drove. They had 2 TA spec cars (same build for both). Randys time wasn't lower because I believe he was called in as a replacement driver a couple weeks before the event, so he didn't have much time with the car before the race.
@@sungbaek3526 Why would INSIDEEVS say that one was IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec and the other was just IONIQ 5 N? Were they modded differently, even if they were the same cars to begin with?
@Clearphish They ran 3 cars. 2 of them were TA spec, and 1 was a production model. The reason they ran multiple cars is because you never know whap happen and they wanted the records. They actually had 2 regular production cars set to compete but one of them crashed during practice.
Ive been to their Namyang R&D place and they have their own little skunk-works division of people for the N cars. Its really cool, young guys and girls and they had their own cool manga style "N-boys" (or something like that) t-shirts. So a really fun bunch of people who are clearly having fun taking EVs in their own direction. They also have a place in Russelsheim that i think has been responsible for a lot of the "rise" of Hyindai/Kia into a place where people will readily consider one over a VW/Honda/Toyota etc. IMO they make some of the most interesting "normal" cars on the road.
4:39 Personally, i would prefer cars to have both, like, i get it, screens make cars easier/cheaper to manufacture, they also increase reliability overall(fewer failure points) but i just like to be able to reach down without taking my eyes off the road and do the thing i intend to do rather than press the ejecto-seato or release the trailer hitch when i just wanted to change radio stations. Me personally, i do like the redundancy of having both input methods as it means if one fails, i have the other to fail back to.
If this car had a Benz of Porche emblem, you would have paid $200k, but since it has a economic badge people care calling it expensive.. judge the fun part of the car not the brand. Hyundai group will show people what they are capable off. I own Toyotas only and looking to get one N.
Here you can find them over msrp as well. Just because it goes there $8K over doesn't mean it's literally every dealership that sells it sells it for over msrp. Do some research
A lot of people say "it's too expensive" but here's what they're not considering. In order for this car to be this unique in the way it does what it does, you need creative engineering and software development. Theses things cost money, and to me it's worth it.
It's so expensive because it isn't subsidized like the Tesla. Simple as that. Here in Europe the gap between this and the M3P (which is neutered in our market by Tesla compared to the US version) is much smaller.
@@miguelvega7769 Well fortunately, the consumer has the final say. If you think it's not worth the money, don't invest. It's that simple. I'm merely coming at it from a different angle in that no other manufacturer has thought of this. Also, if you look at the numbers this car puts out in HP/TQ it's a bargain for the price. Not to mention the absolute spanking it's able to give most performance cars on the road while still being able to seat 5 adults comfortably. And the best part, it doesn't look like a worn bar of soap, sorry Tesla...
I love that this simulates the DSG fart. It's favorite part about my GTI. I could get a laugh out of this. I keep thinking this may be my next car over even the Golf R.
I don’t know anything about the N car, but one thing I noticed that you didn’t mention is that when you turn the blinker on a round video screen appears in front of you. It shows the side of the car that you’re turning into which is kind of neat.
I dont know, why many people in US hates Hyundai. They have excellent finish, make stable cars and they give a hell of guarantee years for that cars. 5 years up to 10 years.
The buttons and overall driver interface is AMAZING. This is way closer to what I would look for in an electric vehicle; a car, but with an electric motor.
Cool vid Rich. My biggest, and only concerns are two things. I lived in South Korea for 5 years, did a bunch of tech support/website stuff there, and I'm still unconvinced of their overall/longterm build quality. Also, their recent 'hands off' $50K battery replacement price for the Ionic 5 on two different vehicles for undamaged batteries(just the external cover was damaged). Writing off the car for essentially cosmetic damage seems pretty shady. Would love to see a vid from you on those incidents.
I mean ... if you think this is unique to this electric car making company ... I got bad news for you. You have a point but that doesn't make them any worse than anyone else. Which says a lot more about the waning power of consumers than it does Hyundai.
I quite like that there are actual buttons. And it’s annoying to have buttons on the steering wheel for which there are no equivalent buttons for the passenger to control. I had a loaner vehicle for a week where the volume control was only on the steering wheel. Very annoying for when my passenger wanted to change the volume.
The N stands for two things; Namyang The district in South Korea where Hyundai's Global R&D Center is located. This is where the Veloster N was developed and engineered. Nürburgring The racetrack in Germany where Hyundai has a development center and tests its N vehicles. The N logo also represents a tight turn in the road, like a chicane. All Hyundai crossover/suv’s have reclining seats. My 2017 Santa Fe has reclining rear seats, and they recline a decent amount. It’s so nice my parents always want to borrow it for their roadtrips with my siblings

I recently took a trip to the nurburgring and had a taxi in a i30 N performance and it's blown me away as a standard road car. The performance was very impressive but the handling on standard road tyres even in damp conditions was incredible. I think the N range has a very bright future. Great video as always 😊

Honestly, i love it, i want Inios to make a hot hatch that makes me feel like i'm driving some sort of space ship
Price is more than justified as this car is track ready out of factory. You can bring it to any tracks and beat the 💩 out of M3 performance or even MS Plaid due to its track performance suspension and brake. Teslas will not even last one lap in Nurburgring with full braking and accelerating as its brake will fail. 5 N can do 3 laps without even single brake overheating.
