"Are you my mummy"
"Hey, who turned out the lights"
"My arms are too long"
The three scariest phrases in Doctor Who
You forgot "Don't blink"
Also "We wanted to live forever. So he made sure we did."
There's a treasure trove of these
"Google me"
@@iamnickthegeek That one is more chilling than scary.
And by scary, I mean something that makes you freak out, not just go _"damn, that was cold."_
I love the idea that these monsters technically aren’t trying to kill Doctor and Donna at this point. Rather just purposely attempting to scare them to stimulate their brains and allowing them to learn faster.
Great username 😂😂
Then rampage and do void things
yep. also they were from the void and only became conscious and formed from hate and such. which tells me they exist because of the daleks and everything else of the like that keeps ending up in the void
@@CloudHiromake sense
I love how Donna just shrugs it off when the fake Doctor says that his arms are too long, like she's so used to the Doctor saying such random things that she doesn't take any notice of them.
Given how relatively recent the regeneration was (a few days at most, maybe?), it even tracks as a normal thing for him to say (see also: Nine complaining about ears, Ten noticing a mole, Eleven panicking over longer hair, Twelve not liking the color of his kidneys, Thirteen being shorter, etc.)
That & she agrees with him that his arms are too long
@@brentage5000Fourteen recognizing that they're repeating a form because of the teeth.
@@brentage5000According to the novelisation of The Giggle, 14’s (original) life only lasted about 15 hours.
And we thought 10 didn’t last long enough!
@@WimpyKelv12 okay, but does that include the liberation of the daleks comic series from Doctor Who Magazine? Cuz I can maybe buy destination skaro and the specials encompassing 14-15 hours, but the comic (which takes place between Power Of The Doctor and Destination: Skaro) pushes that to at least a day and a half.
I love how it always takes a repeat of the same statement for The Doctor to catch on that something's wrong lmao
"We didn't have the parts" and "We should go. Doctor." are examples that come to my mind regarding this from other episodes
“Hey, who turned out the lights?”
'There is something on your back.'

@@smbsuperfan271 I know! I saw clips of Cale 👿
The build-up of tension from the moment the Not-Thing Doctor sits down to talk to Donna up to the end of this clip is fantastic, imo. One of the most genuinely unnerving and anxiety-inducing moments I've seen in a Doctor Who episode in years. I don't think I'll ever be over David's delivery of, "Oh, we get hungry, don't we?"
I love "Food is interesting..."
This is all one big intellectual exercise for the Doctor Not-Thing. It's brilliant!
the funny thing is that i genuinely thought it was the doctor being an alien like usual. like in city of death when he said "well, you're a beautiful woman. probably."
wasn't until not-donna started to say the same thing that i started to panic.
1:16 just realised how smooth that 1 take was, showing Catherine Tate in 2 different places without obviously cutting.
I'm undecided on my overall opinion of the new run so far, but I've gotta say, the visuals and concepts are fantastic. The Meep's practical elements were spectacularly executed, the not things are done well especially the practical arms and second knee, and my god that cinematography, perfectly replicating a one-er with two of each character in frame as the camera moves is insanely cool. One thing's for certain, visually and conceptually this era is top notch as of The Giggle
Yeah, it was good. Not being able to show Donna's face and her placement after the whip transition to the Doctor double brings it down a bit though.
The cut happens around the 18 second mark with the whip pan it's pretty seamless
I wonder if these shots were matched manually or with motion controlled camera
In the behind the scenes it showed that that is a double so they must've done a sneaky cut when Donna runs around the corner went you can't see her face anymore.
Catherine’s acting through these three specials are the highlight for me, she came to plaaaay. The look of horror as he stands up and the way she plays the Donna no-thing at the beginning, she doesn’t say a word and yet you know something isn’t right.
She is truly an actress !
Or for that matter, matter-of-factly asking how many knees.
@@mithiwithiI like the two knee walk she does where she stumbles side to side whilst taunting the doctor and Donna. The delivery is so menacing.
Tate’s acting when Donna screams the doctor took the wrong one was also so amazing.
The specials gave her sooo much great material to work with, she was definitely the standout for me! Although everyone was great
I'm not sure why, but 0:15 and "Oh, I see...when something's gone, it keeps existing..." is such a cool idea. Intangible creatures learning about the reality they threaten as they go along.
i love that the language seems perfectly apt to them. they’re not confused about english at all. “hungry” MEANS something to them, but until now it has only been an abstract concept. one of infinite impossibilities. but now it is made concrete. he doesn’t sound like something learning about hunger for the first time, but rather like an entity who is considering it seriously for the first time. such an interesting tone to strike, it makes them feel truly intelligent even though they know nothing.
It's kind of like Flatline, creatures that are so totally alien to us that normal things like shape are confusing to them.
Definitely a return to form for Doctor Who, terrifying villains that the Doctor doesn’t know initially how to fight but learns how to deal with them throughout the episode. And uncanny body parts and movements to ice the cake.
And we know look forward to the one who waits
"Oh, we get hungry, dont we?"
That moment got me-
That moment and the "that's right, things keep existing" utter CHILLS
@@ironicanimations me to mate 😅
Chills
"Food, that’s interesting. Because once I sort out the arms… then I have a problem with the _jaaaaa…"_
Love the fact that the docs initial reaction to ‘Donna’s’ long arm is concern and reassurance that he’s ’got her’ and that ‘he’s there’ for her. My god their friendship is too pure.
I love the few seconds before the doctor realises that the nothing isn’t donna. The: “Its okay I’m here, we’ll sort this out!” Just makes me tear up.
"if you can just get those bodies to calm down" I cannot stop laughing
I was initially confused, they're in one room, but it cuts to them being in a different room... but the truth soon became clear. Subtly well done.
I actually looked down to reply to a text just as the scene was beginning, fair to say my brain was scrambled until I saw all 4 of them together
I think at first I assumed it was a montage of different times, like they'd been there a while and it was cutting between their conversations at different points. So when it slowly became clear that both scenes were meant to be happening simultaneously, that was a pretty nice bit of recontextualisation that made the horror really work.
A jaw dropper, literally.
it also has some size changing scary moments... Makes your arms very difficult!
@@InfiniteProductions123 May have to give it a watch in the future though
Cheeky !
This scares me more than "Are you my mummy" and "Hey, who turned out the lights". But I can't stop laughing
either! God, I love Doctor Who.
Don't blink.

Doctor Who just giving me phobias at this point.
Every amateur artist: "I don't know why but the arms are so very difficult."
this soundtrack for the episode was genuinely otherworldly and really made this episode stand out as its own unique horror/thriller type theme. please do more of this type of thing it was brilliant.
Gotta love the bad CGI, honestly adds a sort of charm to it honestly.
I think the CGI was bad on purpose to emphasize just how... wrong the Not Things were.
@@Godzillakingofkaiju1 Dr Who has never exactly had great cgi.
I’ve seen worse CGI. If you ever get into watching Super Sentai or Kamen Rider you’ll see worse examples than this even in their big budget movies
makes me feel like its the ear;y 2000s again
apparently a lot of it was practical blended with digital elements; like the arms were real; them crawling was real they just had some touch ups but then you also had stuff like the jaw which tbf as far as a creature that hardly understands skin and length goes its jaw textures just stretching like that would be pretty accurate, least to my eyes lmao
1:56 the execution is both hilarious and terrifying!
😂😂😂
I love how they play the Not-things so well in this scene. They’re complete polar opposites to their main characters, which makes it even cooler how well they are played by the same actors.
2:49 "You stupid big hand" that's the funniest line in the episode lmao.
What about "I've got to say, this is the biggest nightmare of my life. But... I look quite good." "I can't argue."
@@BaronMartin that one was hilarious as well
Mines when Donna punches her other self & says that felt therapeutic
I kept thinking she said “you stupid bitch, HYAGH” 😂
That look in Fake Donna's eyes at 0:21 sent shivers down me. Just absolute blackness behind them.
You seen the look in the fake guy eyes at the beginning of the video it’s crazy I could feel that gave from anywhere
It's fun to see the uncanny valley being used to such a strong effect.
I love how they took advantage of CGI’s Uncanny Valley effect. Masterful!

"I don't know where I am" from the episode where people get sucked into the internet
The slurring of the "the arms.... are so vvery difficult..." at 1:14 is so horrifying. Excellent acting.
To me Midnight is the absolute best episode of New Who, but this one it's right up there with my favorites now.
Truly the first hide-behind-the-couch moment in a while. Hoping for a bit more of that with Ncuti and Millie!

@@K-kj5svIs clown emoji supposed to be you saying that or ??
@K-kj5sv What political agenda do you feel is referenced in this episode, and how, specifically, is it referenced?
@@cidyrog I love that they believe this episode is bad and the only reason people like it was because Isaac Newton was black…even though they’re the only ones who care that Issac Newton was made black. Like… we’ve seen Charles Dickens with ghost, Agatha Christy with giant alien wasps, but they somehow take issue with the realism of Isaac Newton’s skin color.
…also this episode was genuinely good. Kind of cringe they’re implying otherwise.
One of the best episodes in years, love having RTD back!!
1:57 For some reason, I find the literal jaw-dropping effect hilarious.
Every whovian I know agrees this is one of the best episodes ever.

It was entertaining, but it's not even in my top 20, tbh...
Well let me be the first to tell you it's shit then
@chickenman22710 oh ho someone on the internet complaining of Dr Who
A great horror film feel to it with that creepiness. These are the type of episodes that make doctor who great to watch. In my opinion miles better than what we have had in the last couple of years. Also being a anime fan this scene gave me attack on titan feels
Here’s the basics on how to defeat a titan
1. Get Two swords
2. Get a grappling hook
Finally slash the titan on the back of the neck
"My arms are too long."
My spoon is too big.
I was SO happy to see Donna again.
Weird, crazy and wonderful. That's Doctor Who 💙
Well this episode was jaw dropping pun intended at 1:58, this reminded me of midnight, very interesting love RTD’s storylines 😁
I love this show
1:10 - Every 2D artist
oh this episode is so good
it's absolutely terrifying though
The not-things are paving the way for Doctor Who horror comedy. Love it!
It’s cool how a good doctor who episode can do something so silly and still win you over in the end
I haven't seen anyone else say this but I am getting MAJOR Mandela Catalogue vibes from this episode.
Hell, one of the diagrams of an alternate is a person with abnormally long arms almost identical to the not-Doctor.
As horrifying as the episode is, I bet it was fun to make
The villains in this episode remind me of the Alternates from the Mandela Catalogue, and my goodness do they fit so well.
This is the comment I was looking for. The concept is so goddamn similar
I was initially thinking Pattern Screamer, but the Alternates is probably a better fit for the Not-Things.
i love the subtle difference tennant’s performance when he walks back in, initially i thought it was a really weird cut and the doctor has finished what he was doing and come back, and then it switches over to the doctor in the other room
this episode gave me the most terrified laughing fits I've ever had
"They're us."
"They're not-us!"
Clever Donna. Literally, the not-things would be not-Donna and not-doctor. Collectively not-us.
I love how The Doctor was trying to reassure her until he realised it wasn't her
I love how pouty "My arm's are too long" sounds 😂
WELL THAT'S ALRIGHT THEN
No way!! They got him to do the “don’t forget to subscribe”!!!
Man, this was so goofy but also very effective at being unsettling.
I guess this episode was a Jaw Dropping experience to watch
I must say two knees on each leg are very creepy part of Donna's metamorphosis.
0:46 What the fudge 😯😮😧
The giant Donna looks so funny 2:36
Literally just the face of a Titan
@@iiiivvvv9986my thoughts exactly
1:29 Well, that's literally taking the definition of "knuckle-dragger" to a whole new level... 😱
The way he just stares at her, like a dead body just glaring motionlessly.
1:00 the music, the look on the fake Doctor’s face, the lighting, hearing the real Doctor off screen… fcking chilling!!
The idea thst something, or somethings came from beyond the edge of the universe is terrifying.
_"My Arms are Too long"_ That's like every artist dread ever who tries to draw a character with arms, arms too long, hands too big, too small, incorrectly shaped, etc...
More than one knee on leg. You know. Common artist problem.
Brilliant episode!
The thought that the not-things literally comes from nothing itself makes them so scary. And if these creatures can survive in the nothing, then what other creatures can? Such a good episode. In my opinion, the most existentially terrifying Doctor Who episodes out there.
Me: *stubs my toe*
My nervous system: 1:57
I'd bring up the elbow......but that nerve feels more like your body just went into a blue screen of death
“Are you my mommy”
“Don’t blink”
“We wanted to live forever, so he made sure we did”
“Hey who turn out the light”
Now it’s “my arms are too long”
All are so chilling but my all time favorite is “The question that must never be answered, Doctor who?”
The feeling at this moment when this was first broadcast will take something unbelievable to even match in the future.
Fury from the Deep's animation style has seaped its way into the real world.
Just seeing David and Catherine together on screen again felt so amazing, add in how this is a great experimental episode like Midnight or Turn Left and it’s just fantastic to see after all these years 😍
14: 'That was weird, right? Like, even by our standards, that's pretty up there?'
Donna: 'Yea, pretty high. 9 out of 10 for me. It was the jaw drop that put me over the edge. You?'
14: 'The rapid growing and chasing us on all fours. I've been chased a lot, but that one ranks up there as one of the most 'nope, not doing that again' sort of chases.'
I've got so many theories about these two. First off, when Ten faced down The Master and Rassilon and told The Master about The Time War, he mentions "The Could've Been King and his army of Meanwhiles and Never-Weres". Could these be related to that somehow?
Doubt it. That's more metaphorical than anything.
I mean, they weren't wrong. Their arms WERE too long.
Now this is the stuff of nightmares.
The Not Things were such a clever idea💡! They seriously creep me out.
"Drive faster, the bad CGI is getting closer!"
"Quick, gently tap it with that bar!"
I´m amazed how scared I was watching this episode. The concept of shapeshifters which also copy your knowledge/memories to become a perfect copy is just scary. Luckily it was only two Not-Things and two people as with more it would have been even more difficult to find the real one.
That line “We’re Not-Things. But you… you are not nothing.” They’re entities made of nothing that want to be something, so they just pick the first living creatures they come across. First it was the captain of the ship, then it was the Doctor and Donna. SO unsettling.
Actually it reminds of a scene out of Army of Darkness of the evil dead franchise where Ash tried to figure out which necronomicon was real. One of them had a singularity a mini black hole that sucked him in and later stretched his face out. I think this is an indirect nod to that movie. As always I love Russell T Davis work on doctor who. Taking the story lines from the doctor who comics and new material. Fantastic ❤
this really was a refresher to see after what we have had in the past.
It’s been a long while since Dr Who genuinely scared me. This did the trick
That face at 2:59 is horrifying

2:30 Titans!
this was such a creepy and crazy episode. after i watched it i kept thinking about it during the night.
Id probably go into a seizure if I were to experience the beginning portion of this video alone!😭
Also, that chase scene was probably funny to record.
"Oi so in this scene, you are chasing yourselves through a long tunnel. Now get on your hands and knees and start crawling."
God damn what an incredible series of episodes this was
I love how Dr who can turn into a horror movie for a split second sometimes
Donna: **hardly says anything**
14: WHO ARE YOU?!
I quite like that the cgi looks off it just works with this setting and the non things
I like how the body horror here is more subtle than say The Thing
10/10 Episode !! David Tennant brought me back to my childhood ❤
Oh this episode just nailed the whole creepy atmosphere body horror thing perfectly.
