    That Ferris wheel was actually in Santa Monica. The series takes place in the ruins of LA. Also, props for figuring out that the people from vault 32 were actually raiders, that was some big brain deduction right there.

      i love the way they foreshadowed it. the woman using the knife to steal food off the other persons plate and smelling it before eating it, the fact that the "Husband to be" is the only one in the group who looks like he's been bathed, the way he obsesses over the faucet and chugs the water, and finally him wiping himself on the curtains.
      if you're a fan of the games you see it coming almost immediately, but i'f this show is your first Fallout experience, it's just obvious enough that you'll put two and two together at around the same speed lucy does, and her pipboy's geiger counter function isn't so much a reveal as it is Confirmation of what you already suspect.
      everything in this first episode is really well done, and i need to sit down and watch the rest of what's been released so far. i love the callbacks to the game series(the attack on this vault feels like it's drawing from the vault that opened early and got attacked by raiders from Megaton, as well as the vault that was divided into two factions and slaughtered eachother in a civil conflict, for example, also when lucy goes to leave the vault, the bright light from outside and the calcified corpses outside felt a lot like leaving Vault 101 in fallout 3) and the artistic choices(the film burning and projecting a pseudo atomic blast in the back during the attack on the vault was brilliant, and the destroyed vault that the raiders came from looks reminiscent of a setpeice from "A boy and his dog", one of the inspirations for the original games.)

    The gun that shot the baby leg is called the 'Junk Jet.' Basically since bullets might be harder/more expensive to get, someone made a gun that just shoots the random junk you put in it. Typical Fallout weirdness lol

    Maximus is a squire like back in the day. Squires would serve Knights and learn to be one and then They would become knights. Think of it as an assistant learning to take the managers position. So Maximus went up on the chain as a Squire and will be learning from a Knight to become a Knight. ( thats the premise of the Brotherhood of steal their like Old Europe with their lords and knights and what have you)

    A bit of lore: the bombs were dropped in the year 2077. After WWII the world decided that nuclear power was the way to go and so microprocessors and other technologies we have weren't invented hence the retro look. The games take place roughly 200 years later (2277 and later roughly). This show is set 9 years after Fallout 4 which is the latest game in the timeline.

    • @gourdguru
      @gourdguru Місяць тому +7

      exactly, effectively all cultural development in the US froze in place sometime between 1955 and 1960, so lot's of "atomic power" romanticism, anti-communist propaganda, "world of tomorrow" style retrofuturism, and "leave it to beaver" style clothing and architecture.
      also:
      - the bombs didn't just hit california, like they thought in the vid. they hit pretty much everywhere that matters socially, economically, or politically. new york, DC, Hollywood, Las Vegas, etc.
      all of the continental united states are basically wasted and irradiated, the least damaged places would likely be in the heartland, since their are less targets of value there, but even there they dropped bombs to try and destroy america's agricultural breadbasket.
      - the cowboy is essentially immortal. due to a combination of genetic luck and a certain other issue that i don't want to go into detail on in case they cover it in the show later, some people who were outside of shelters when the bombs fell survived the radiation and became ghouls, the radiation causing their bodies to rot and decay and slowing their aging almost to a stop. instead of fearing death or old age, the biggest concern for ghouls is going "feral", the radiation rots the brain until they basically become mindless zombies, hence why the hillbillies brought the chicken. chickens never shut up, and if the ghoul was feral when they let him out, he would have most likely immediately attacked the chicken first.

      Small correction- The first game (Fallout 1) take place in 2161, 84 years later after bombs were dropped, not 200. And then we have Fallout 2 - 2241, Fallout 3- 2277, Fallout New Vegas- 2281, Fallout 4- 2287 and now Fallout TV series-2296

    Betty, the actress you recognized, is Blind AL from Deadpool. They said, "the blight that hit the wheat...", however, those "crops" in vault 32 look like dried up corn stalks not wheat. The pistol that Lucy uses is a tranquilizer gun/pistol (in the Fallout 4 game it's a rifle called the Syringer rifle). The Brotherhood of Steel is like a quasi-religious militaristic faction that covets pre-war technology for their own gains. Think of medieval times where a knight had a squire to clean, maintain, and CARRY his equipment. The squire is subservient to the knight. In the game you can have "companions" who can carry a lot of stuff for you along with your own carry weight.
