Chibnall was a long-time fan of the show. Between the early-80s and 2017, he probably got to see Pertwee's era. In rewatching Jodie's run, hers is closest in trying to recapture the tone of the Classic era. The "Fugitive" Doctor also has a refreshing flair of the Classic run.

I’m not sure. There’s been some rumours that some or all of Part One of Invasion Of The Dinosaurs has been recoloured by someone on UA-cam, But as yet the BBC only has a monochrome copy.
I started watching in 1971, circa "Mind Of Evil." The Keller Machine was really creepy! The first four Doctors were legendary, with the show peaking in the 70's, with viewing figures New Who can only dream of! Classic Who was so much better than New Who. Because they had a shoestring budget, they had to be creative and imaginative, and come up with great stories. New Who is style over substance. Take away the CGI, the deafening music, and the silly sex-xhange Doctor, and what have you got? ... A boring forgettable load of crap!
My favorite doctor who behind the scenes knowledge is that Jon Pertwee was just… like this.
