The cannons were originally to protect the town from pirates many centuries ago, the church was originally an old fortress, they have been there for many years to represent that piece of history.
I Purchased a very good book in English on Javea written by a English Woman who he's Lived in Javea for many years worth purchasing it its titled a year in the life of Javea by Charlene Quince. I Like Javea very much visited it some years ago. The historical part of Javea is worth visiting as is the market.
