£19K? Absolute bargain... Minke is worth far more than that already and her resale value will only continue to rise... crack on heroes! Nothing but admiration for you both so just keep on doing it your way... it's working!

FYI my vote is to go buy a 100% rebuilt engine, perhaps a different make that is much more reliable and will still fit in your boat, because that one looks a bit of a troublemaker.
And I would not go electric, I’ve followed a few other UA-cam sailors who have tried, and most of them have pulled their electric engines out after a year or so because they said the current technology just doesn’t have the power or the battery endurance for vital cruising operations.

wow, amazing , you only spent $6000. You really got your money s worth. Your boat is aleady worth this, given that after engine replacement it will really be worth a lot more. And you lived on it for a whole year. Love your channel:)

The biggest profit you can ever make, can never be measured via money! Life, love, happiness, independence, health, adventure, achievement, sharing, respect for others/nature, gratitude, humility, positivity and friendship!
You two are already in profit to the tune of millions.
Ever more of us try explaining that to the powers that shouldn’t be a’la Davos. I hope they can’t ignore us too much longer.
God bless and thanks for sharing!

Great Job you guys. I am so impressed with your tenacity and endurance taking on this project. After replacing the motor and finishing up the inside I doubt you will ever make a profit greater than $10K (+/- $5K) which is still something to bank BUT you got all the experience, grew your channel, showed us a side of your personality easier to see on the hard, and will now have a nice comfortable, "fast" platform for years of sailing experiences. You guys are winners. Wishing you a great 2022.

Don’t beat yourselves up over cost. All boats are worth what they’re worth to the owner. Only when your not happy with the boat is when it costs too much. If your happy, and don’t forget this is your home, then it’s worth whatever you spend. That’s why we have money to spend it. Food, shelter, happiness Priceless. Enjoy keep up the good work Roy

In my opinion, yes, the engine costs were worth it. You guys have run that engine for hours between West coast France and where you currently are. You've been able to motor sail and navigate in "protected" waterways so what you spent so far was worth it? Does it need a completely overhaul? HELL YEAH! But it's been running (with hiccups) so far.

Great job of not giving in when the keels started to leak. I think that was the pivotal point . The thing that you add to the sailing ⛵️ community is a window of what it’s like to be a U.K. sailor. The challenge of not sailing in tropical waters is your largest obstacle. You’ve also highlighted the challenges of living on anchor in the Med which I’m sure we all found helpful . Like UMA , your facing the challenge of modernising an old boat . What your doing is so important. Thank you, I will be buying coffees soon

Amazingly low costings, all said and done. I hope the success story of the cat means you can really stretch your wings next year and go farther afield. Well done. Sterling effort (I still say you should have replaced the rattly solar fan tho! 😂).
Maybe the biggest expense next year will be the engine (or it's replacement) but the peace of mind it will bring will be worth it.

You have done as much work as possible! Getting a working engine makes the boat worth much more! My old car had that engine as the engine! Seemed to take it 10 min to get to 80mph but it would run all day long on one tank ! Loved the car ! It was damaged by a hit and run in front of our house! My insurance gave me nothing because " You don't know if the person had insurance or not! So we are not paying to get it fixed!"! Had to sell it for Junk!

I feel you, I had a hit and run on my vw bus and had to fix my door, I was rearended when I was 11, smacked the back of my head on the back window, then rearended by a drunk driver again with head smack again, and technical total, had to buy it back as salvage, but AAA was great about it, and I got chiropractic for a year or so. My rack saved the truck's frame, but sent all that momentum into ME, mixed blessing. The tailgate and bumper are not to spec but I was able to drive off. I consider myself lucky.

I think most people misunderstand the value of things. What someone else might pay normally is far less than what it would cost you to replace that same item. Keep it afloat and ship shape. Time and service are the real return. This house is 112 this year, In some places it would cost me $2500.00 a month to rent this property. But having it all paid for allows my Wife and I to live as We choose. That today is priceless! Each month as it has for the past 3 years it's value grows. Like your boat things do wear out and break down. But it's still far cheaper than renting. Hang on and fight for what you own and you will win.

What you gained in life experience is invaluable. Money comes and goes. Life only happens once...having bought inexpensive boats, fixing them up and incorporating them into my partner and I's life the rewards are simple. Those priceless moments, when you pause for a moment, in awe of the water, the sky, the sail and the boat in the water. The feel of the wheel and power of the boat in your hands or look across the table and enjoy a meal with friends after a day on the water how can you even put a price on that...you can't.

That engine was useless until you threw some money at it, 800 Euros doesn't seem too bad even if it wasn't a permanent fix, you made it useful again.
A good mechanic with a well equipped workshop and plenty of spare parts could get the engine up and running again fairly easily, it's not too far gone but you are not in that position. If you do it yourself it will be an experiment and a learning experience and you know full well it will be an ongoing and never ending saga !

I ❤ everything about you two as separate people and as a couple.. and am really impressed by your efforts to make a go of this new home which must not always be peaches and ice cream joyous. I feel like you both are dedicated to a realistic future goal thar will be worth the effort time and money for the return of learning and sharing the ups and downs with each other .... and us of course so many hours spent filming and editing ... Happy New Year and may the Light of Love ❤ be yours now and always. Love your smiles...

Hello Mark and your wonderful wife and Yoshi thank you for the update I always enjoy watching your videos I'm sure you did not have too much fun doing the refit but you did learn a lot I don't even know the name of all the parts you just mentioned in the video but as long as they help keep your boat afloat that's all that matters you all deserve a rest after all of this keep up the good work and I wish you well on your decision with the motor probably you will get that straightened out soon can't wait to see your upcoming videos. God bless all three of you be safe stay healthy watching from Roseville California USA

you guys have done an awesome job on your boat and I've enjoyed watching you make it seaworthy. Good luck in the year ahead and I hope you do well with the new/rebuilt engine. I've been watching sailing channels like yours for the past two years of the lockdown and am making plans to get a boat myself to live on and cruise. Thanks for the inspiration!
