I use the kdp calculator I get no errors when I first upload my cover. But then a few hours after publishing I get a email. Which states I need to scale up .125 inches it's a bit annoying lol.
Great video. I keep getting an error message on the interior. The message says: Interior Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) to your book's page width and 0.25" (6.4 mm) to the page height to ensure that the images in your manuscript extend beyond the edge of the page. Once you have added the size, extend any images or backgrounds that you want to reach all the way to the edge of the page 0.125” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim line. This prevents manufacturing issues when the file is trimmed to size. See examples PDF page(s) 1 - 3, 12 - 14, 27 - 29. Can you please help? Thank you for your time.
@@YiskahLeAnn the examples that they gave me I went in to edit them, they were way pass the guide lines! I edit on bookbolt studio so I went into the interior and resized them (brought them in, not pass the guide lines) I resubmitted my book into KDP and it was approved! Hope this helps!
It seems Raquel's been able to figure this out, but let me throw in my two cents! Have you tried changing it from bleed to no bleed (assuming you've selected bleed)? Though I've never gotten that error message, an extra 0.125 inches typically has to do with bleed, so I imagine it's something related to that! You can also try resizing your pages per KDP's guidelines. It's not too difficult to add that extra amount, and it shouldn't make your pages too large as long as you make sure to do it right! Let me know if you hit any other snags!
You are a golden goddess. I think I spent 5 or 6 hours tooling around with this damn thing. When you dragged the template to the Canva correct size the only thing that I am concern with is the spin size. As you enlarge the whole template you are also increasing the spine. Once printed there most likely will be additional space like there are missing pages.
If anyone keeps getting rejected and sees no error warning on kdp, print *without* crop marks and bleed selected. I thought I saw somewhere I had to and that was the problem :)
Saraaaaaaah!! I'm using Canva (not pro) and the KDP cover calculator, but I still get my notebooks kicked back to me by Amazon with a message that tells me to add 0.125 inches to all sides for bleed. I followed the dimensions in the calculator... how can it be wrong?? Have you heard of this happening to others? Also, I do everything on a Samsung tablet instead of a desktop/laptop computer. Could that be an issue?
Oh no!! Okay, I'm guessing the issue here is with your interior, since your cover will always automatically have bleed. Basically, if you're doing a 6x9 book, make sure your pages have the dimensions 6.125 by 9.125 inches! I'm often able to get away without changing the dimensions from a standard 6x9, but I imagine that for some books, the specific dimensions are a necessity. You shouldn't have an issue using your Samsung tablet! Try just resizing your interior or choose no bleed instead. If that still doesn't work, let me know!! I want to help you figure out what the issue is! Also, is it an error in the print previewer or in an email from KDP? That can give you a big clue as well!
I figured it out, finally. When I download in Canva, I download as "PDF Print", BUT I was also selecting "bleed". Once I stopped selecting "bleed", the problem was resolved! SO simple, yet so frustrating!😂
Yes, basically! Just make sure that it's modified, which can be as simple as slapping some text to it. Check out this page for a deeper explanation! www.canva.com/licensing-explained
How do I know the measurements of the books I need for example a sketch book and not a journal or a journal and not a smaller composition book? I don’t know if my question came across well
The dimensions you choose are totally up to you! You can create an 8.5x11 sketchbook, or you could create a 6x9 sketchbook. You could also look around on Amazon and see what dimensions most people use!
I’m trying to figure out how to split a spread illustration so one file becomes two…is the a bleed in the gutter? What is the actual trim size for an 8.5 x I” single page with bleed? Thank
Ooh, you're getting fancy! Unfortunately, I don't think there's bleed in the gutter. To figure out the exact trim size with bleed, make sure to follow KDP's calculations: (Trim height) + (0.125" x 2 (bleed)) = Page height with bleed (Trim width) +(0.125" (bleed)) = Page width with bleed Most likely, I believe it would be 8.625 x 11.125. Hope that helps!

When you say right size are you talking margins or size of paper?
With Book Bolt, you should be fine as is! If not, let me know what error KDP is giving you! If you're not doing lines, you may still have to worry about the margins if your elements are too close to the edge. And when I'm mentioning the right size, I believe I'm referring to the paper size. Let me know if you have any other questions!
I followed your exact steps yet I keep getting the the same error message of "the submitted file size is 8.500x11.00". Any idea on what I could be doing wrong?
Usually, before it says what the submitted file size is, it'll tell you what file size it's actually looking for. Do you see that info? If so, try to head back and resize your book if you can, especially if you created it in Canva! If you're still having problems, however, feel free to shoot me an email or message on IG with screenshots, and I'll see what I can do to help. :)

Great! Video!!! Can you do a video about interior trim size? I been having a hard time getting the right trim size for my interior books. Thank you. ❤️
Thanks!! Trim size is usually the easy part! If you’re doing a 6x9 book, for example, your pages can safely be 6x9. :) Just make sure not to come too close to the edges! You could also try bleed and see how that looks. But I’ll definitely plan on making a video about that soon!!

Is it better to make low content books in canva than in book bolt? When I use book bolt to create books, I always receive a error message saying the margins are not correct. Is their a way to make sure the margins are correct for the cover and interior pages before uploading the book to KDP when using Canva?
It just depends on what you prefer! I prefer Canva, but Book Bolt may be easier for some. As for your margins, just make sure not to have your designs too close to the edge of the page. For your cover, you just don't want any text that's too close, but with your interior, you could just do bleed (and same with the text not being too close) to play it safe. Hope that helps!
Hi dear. I added .125 width and .25 higher. But my doubt while uploading on kdp should I choose page size 8.625 * 11.25 or instead 8.5*11 inches (standard size)??
Only for the cover! But the pages are easy; for example, if you're doing a 6x9 book, your pages would by 6x9 inches. And if you want bleed, you'd add .125 inches to each side, so that 6x9 book would become 6.125x9.125. What issues are you having?
I am also having issues with the manuscript interior. I put no bleed on kdp and no bleed when I'm downloading the file but it still gives me an error saying the image is out of the margin

Great video, as always. My issue has been this: most of the times I want to update my already existing book cover and upload a slightly altered cover, KDP keeps emailing me the following error message: "Update the subtitle in your cover file so that it matches the details you entered during setup", this frustrates the S**t out of me because I am using the same file name and I didn't alter any of the cover titles or subtitles on the image, I only altered the visual design of the book cover. So what am I doing wrong? Last time this happened I just renamed the PDF file of the book cover and KDP approved it right away, now I submitted the updated file name for this new book cover and they keep rejecting it, already 4th time. Hope you can help?
Hey! I think I already answered this question of yours in another comment, but I'd try contacting KDP! That honestly sounds like an error on their end, and there shouldn't be any reason why you can't upload an updated version of your cover. I hope you figure it out! ✨
Hello Sarah i really enjoy your videos and they really help me a lot! :) I just wanted to ask you, the page turn direction shouldn't be right to left? I'm thinking turn the right side page to the left and now that you said left to right i got confused! :/ Thank you for your videos nevertheless! :)
Thanks so much for your support!! I really appreciate it! As for the page-turn direction, it's definitely confusing. I did it the wrong way at first, in fact! Basically, KDP uses really weird wording when referring to this. When they say page-turn direction, what they really should say is reading direction (we read left to right but turn the pages from right to left). Hope that helps! As long as the front of your book cover is on the right and the back is on the left, you'll be good!
I'm so glad!! This was my biggest struggle when I first started, so I wanted to keep other KDPers from wanting to throw their laptop against a wall like I did. 😂

@@SarahLarson Oh 😄 I understand now, you explained it very well thank you so much for answering I wish you all the best! 🌺
@@MediasMixed So glad to hear that!! 💛
All great until I get to Create a New Design...........no custom size option........
Feel free to send an email with a screenshot of what you're seeing! Be sure to disable AdBlock as well so it's not tweaking your webpage.
Paper type matters because cream is only available for certain sizes.
Oh interesting, I didn't know that! Thanks for the info!
Ahhh u helped me from banging my head 😂 thanks
I'm so glad!! This was my biggest struggle when I first started, so I wanted to keep other KDPers from wanting to throw their laptop against a wall like I did. 😂
Maybe time to grab some coffee...
KDP is processing your manuscript and book cover. This requires a number of steps and can take several minutes.
Thanks for that, very helpful 👍 sub ✔️
Kindly be a little slow and give more zoom to windows you are opening
Thanks, I'll work on that! Fortunately, you can slow down the video in the settings and pause at any point if need be. :)
Got it! LOL
Haha, yay!! 🥳
I'm on my 34th try..fml
Dang, I can’t even imagine how frustrating that would be. Feel free to send an email with screenshots and any other relevant files to me at sarah@passivewealthempires.com, and I’d be happy to take a look and hopefully diagnose the issue for you so that this doesn’t keep hanging you up!! But either way, wishing you all the best. ✨
Great video but slow down love. You talk way too fast. Lol
You talk way too fast for beginners trying to learn😢
You are definitely going to fast for beginners 🤦🏼♀️
You talk to much and you don't take the time to show exactly what you are doing
How so? Is there a part you’re stuck on? I’d be happy to help!
🤣😊🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.. Sory my girlfriend is like that only she is gf okay
This is only the cover which in the template the KDP gives it is easy to determin the dimentions and cotent.. The book manuscript thoug it is a whole different story.
I did mind in book bolt and still had an error can I email you the email they sent me
Try contacting Book Bolt support! They can probably help you more than I can if it's a technical error. :)
