Exposed elastic waistband, similar to a retail garment, using a home sewing machine.

- One of my methods for doing an exposed elastic waistband, is to use an open toe embroidery foot and a small stack of post-it-notes, to align the elastic in the machine.
Then place my fabric on top of the elastic overlapping up by a quarter-inch to ⅜ of an inch. This should be sewing on the inside of the garments, so whatever stitching use make sure that the underside of the stitch looks as nice as the top part of the stitch.
Since this is in for a stretch knit garment and an elastic waistband make sure whatever stitching use make sure it’s a stretch stitch.
The stitches I usually use is the three step zigzag, regular zigzag or one of the honeycomb stitches (looks the most like a retail stitch). You can also use a couple rows of straight stretch stitches, either the triple stretch stitch or if your machine has that the little lightning zigzag.
Thank you for this, clearly explained. I particularly like the tip for using a Post-it note pad as edge guide.
I have a cover stitch machine and trying to attach an exposed waistband to knit fabric (think swimwear) and the knit fabric needs to be gathered as well. When i try to do this by stretching the elastic it seem to distort the shape. How would you do this?
Excellent demonstration with a nice comfortable pace. I've not long started sewing and haven't used elastic on projects up to now. I'm hoping to start soon, your video has been helpful. Thank you. Warm and best regards.
Thanks for this video! I'm going to try this soon. I have a fun project that needs exactly this.
Thanks for the tutorial. This very helpful.
Omgosh thank you so much!! I have a husqvarna I can see the honeycomb stitch but I don’t know how to switch it to the stitch?????
Would you pls show how to attach an exposed elastic waistband to non stretch fabric on basis domestic zigzag 🙋🏽♀️🙏🧵👗🤷🏽♀️
Do these stitches/methods stretch well? I kept waiting for the strech and it never came?!
So you don’t need to pull the elastic while sewing with zip zap stitch? All the other videos saying we have to pull the elastic
Depends, if you want more rebound or tighter fit, you can cut a shorter length of elasitc, for a more fitted look, you cut closer to measurement, and you do not have to stretch the fabric or elaseitc when using the zigzag stitch.
Post it f'n genius n. Thanx
Why not using a coverstitch machine, a 2 needle stitch
Because we don’t have coverstitch machine lol
