  • I unbox, prep, and convert a Mr. Heater MHU50 Big Maxx 50,000 BTU Gas Heater from natural gas jets to propane jets. I change the gas orifices, change the spring in the regulator and attach a power cord. I install one in my greenhouse and one in my woodworking shop.

A T40 will also work for the inside spring cap

I'd bought the 125,000 Big Max heater for my shop. And also am converting from natural to LP. Did you have to use the manometer to adjust the spring for the recommended pressure? Just wondering if I needed to do that? Or is it running good the way you set up, turning back 1 and half turns?

I asked my propane dealer about doing that, and he told me that he's never seen one that needed adjusted outside turning the screw back 1 1/2 turns. So I skipped it and everything works fine.

It would of been nice to see it fire up, I'm having problems with No Call for Heat when I hook up the propane. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance, Tony

I'm just a home owner sharing what I do, not sure I can help with your problem. I can only tell you that I have one of these heaters in my greenhouse, and one in my woodworking shop, and both work great. It can take 3 or 4 lighting attempts for the propane to flow to the burners when you're lighting it for the first time.

Great vid! Did you have any trouble threading the orifices into the black manifold? Feels like the threads are wrong on mine.

It's been a while, but I think I did. I just had to keep trying until they finally lined up right.

Great video. Just bought a new. My question is do you still have to a tank regulator? Or is the regulator in the unit the only one?

I had my propane company hook up to the heater, from a 500 gallon propane tank. They installed the regulator.

For God’s sake! Put wire clamp on the wire entering the box!!!!!!! This is exactly why professionals should install appliances like this! People die from such blatant mistakes!!!!!
