How-to Convert a Garage Heater from Natural Gas to Propane (Pt.1)

In this video, I will show how-to convert a natural gas garage heater to use propane. The procedure on most garage heaters is pretty straight forward, and has been pretty consistent on all of the heaters I have seen. Yours may be a bit different, but it should be very similar. On this particular heater, the Mr. Heater Big Maxx 50,000 BTU unit:

…you open the side to perform the conversion. This particular unit comes with the propane conversion kit as well as the ceiling mounting brackets, but you are likely to require more brackets depending on your situation. The conversion procedure is shown in detail in the video, and in part two I will show you how to adjust the pressure to the unit as well as to the burner, then I'll check for gas leaks and put the unit into operation.

Just a few steps away from having heat! Not that that is a big issue anymore. The ten day forecast has every day (except today) above freezing, with most days pushing 40℉ (4.4℃) so it will be quite nice out there in the woodshop - especially when the sun is shining! Once this heater is installed, hooked-up, and tested, I can move along with the ceiling at a much faster pace, and there is only one thing left (the subpanel/furnace wires) that I need to work around with the ceiling panels, and I'm almost done by then! It will be soooo nice to not have to worry about the cold! 😊

I've converted several appliances to propane in my day, and like you are showing, they are all pretty much the same only different. Definitely not worth spending money to have someone else do unless the manifold is real hard to reach.
