Mafia is a legendary game!! Glad you liked it! I was the co-editor for subtitle transcript writing for the definitive edition. Such a strong story as well on top of the game itself
I like how Sam seemed like the nice guy the whole game and Paulie looked like he was the asshole but turned out to be the most loyal to Tommy even though he made a mistake with the bank robbery but the train cutscene showed that Tommy was the only person Paulie really had in his life who he cared about that train scene made me cry----Great game.
My favorite thing about Mafia 1 and Mafia 2 is how different Tommyvand Vito are and how they view the Mob Tommy doesn't idolizes the life and knows how brutal it is and Vito wants the power, money and respect and it's brutalnesd has always been glossed over until the end of that story
This is probably an unpopular opinion but Vito Scaletta is such a forgettable character. The only event in the game that garners any kind of emotional reaction from him is when his house gets burned down by the Irish mob. His sister disowns him? Literally who cares, back to shooting the shit with my boy Joe. Joe is taken off to be killed? Super annoying but shit happens. He has no emotional depth and no memorable traits. I think this is because Mafia 2 is not quite a finished game, and Vito's character development... well, is not finished.
This type of UA-cam video reminds me of playthroughs I used to watch from 2010-2016ish plus the funny moments blended together. It’s the kind of evolution that makes me happy even though I’ve grown out of the scene.
Same here. In the era of boring, endless Twitch streams I'm glad this shorter, more condensed format of gaming videos still exists. Thank you @jayvee for keeping the genre alive!
Yes on pc. But good luck playing on an oled tv on nextgen consoles. It’s extremely rough on the eyes on an oled tv. They’ve had years to release a 60 fps patch but won’t be bothered.
This game is the spiritual successor to The Godfather Trilogy.... It's Vito Corleone level acting and performance... Really the cherry on top for gangster film genre.... Tommy Angelo almost feels like Michael Corleone... And Sam and Paulie feels like Sonny Corleone and Tom Hagen respectively.... It's so satisfying to watch a classic like this... This perfect and polished...
4:48 fun thing: that sequence in original was more cinematic, dramatic and tense. First of all its length was ~65 sec (since the moment Sam and Paulie walked into the bar) during which Tommy changed 4 states: anxiety (tapping fingers on the wheel), curiosity (when Sam opens the door of bar and goes back to the car), confusion (when Sam tries to get something mysterious from his pocket: what it could be? is it good for me or not?) and panic (what if it is pistol? Am I deadman? Screw it, better leave now. Where that damn keys? C'mon you rust piece of shit, start on!). Second, cello crescendo and heartbeat made the episode work as it should. In remake that sequnce lasts ~30-35 sec, and Tommy barely changed 2 states. anxiety (smoking) and slight confusion (when Sam comes to the car) with face like "Oh, c'mon, they shot Paulie's leg, but you are the one who drags like 90 yr old fart. Please GO FASTER, I'm certainly not in a hurry at all..."
Vito was always my favorite character in Mafia and still is one of my favorites but Tommy is truly an awesome character and I think my new favorite. They’re all so good tho.
I like how knives and baseball bats are shown as weapons that can sometimes be used but literally not once did i ever have a knife in my inventory. There was also only one time I was even specifically reminded I could get a weapon from vinny before i head out. Despite this, I tried to grab weps from vinny before a mission and it took them out of my fucking inventory 💀 the game is decent don't get me wrong but it still feels like a 2001 game sometimes
outside the story campaign, there is nothing to do in the open world. no clothing shops, restaurants, car shops, side activities(car races, motorcycle races, boat races). the game is really barebones tbh.

One of the best remakes ever made. Loved Mafia Definitive Edition and the original. Despite the issue of not getting the ownership bonuses it's still a fun game. 👍🏻
Props to hanger 13 and mafia devs sticking with telling stories. Story telling is so important. Gameplay and graphics eventually become outdated, but good stories never do. I hope hanger 13 sticks with this format. While I would love to have a mafia online game, I’ll have the story instead.
I have rx570 an i5 12400 solid pc imo but mafia with unreal graphics runs on 50 what a remake what a game what a story i played it like month ago then mafia 2 remastered and i still prefer mafia now i paused it a little with gta 4 and ac origins but i will play third game definitely if it is good as 1 and 2
Funny thing is about Tommy he could of lied about the guy he ran off the road just said he ran off but dropped the money and he lost him he wouldn’t be in trouble in the first place 🤣
