- Welcome to Pennington Place. The holidays are here and I don't know about you, but we have 5 children and 9 grand children. So, trying to keep a 'budget' while giving quality gifts from the heart can be a challenge. In this video I show you how to turn one bar of soap into a gallon of body wash for under $3. Enjoy and remember to make each day beautiful.
I remember "back in the day" when bottled body wash was not a thing. When it came out, my mom told us we could just DIY it like this. Of course, my mom was old enough that she lived through the invention of paper diapers, etc. She and her friends sewed fitted cloth diapers for their baby when plastic backed diapers gave their kiddos rashes. And she taught me how to do that 20 yrs ago.
We're in a day where certain luxury items are thought of necessities ....body wash certainly isn't a necessity, but it is NICE to have. Thank you for sharing
And my mom showed us to do it with water. Certainly would make it cheaper. Or one could half the oil and do water. Have you compared that substitute?
I have found your videos so very helpful. One of the things that I have done with grating the soap. I have used a salad shooter and then I have saved my fingers and it goes much quicker.
Because there is a lot of added water, preservative should be added ideally. Often the final product is used up very quickly, so people don't add it. For personal use is a personal choice.
Certainly if made to sell you are required to add a preservative 🛁🚿 Interesting recipe 👍
can't wait to do it
LUV YOUR VID.
thank you,,,,,, thanks for watching
Do I need to put a preservative in the mixture? Thanks.
Thank you
How you made long drill whisk?
Would a natural soap work in this recipe also? Thank you for the information.
would vegetable oil or canola oil work if you don't have olive oil or grapeseed oil
What about coconut oil?
What about using the baby oil in it instead of the other oil
Fantastic, thank you!!
Could I use something like Irish Spring to make a body wash for my husband?
*YOU CAN USE ANY BAR OF SOAP, I MAKE IT MYSELF. COAST, DOVE, IRISH SPRING...*
Will that change the potency of the soap?
Matthew Young
Yes. Renders it totally ineffective.
It works perfectly
how long before you use all this? I'm wondering about a preservative
A gallon will last a family or 5 about 4 months. I have never had to use a preservative, but then again I have never had a gallon last more than 6 month maximum.
Great an tell Mike we trying to buy one of those head stirs
Would like for you to show foaming action while testing?
Joanne Venere
This won’t foam, as all the soap has been emulsified with oil. It won’t clean anything. More likely, it will leave an oily film on anything it touches. Useless recipe.
*I MAKE IT & ITS REALLY GOOD! NEVER BUYING BODY WASH AGAIN! I ADD COCONUT OIL AND VITAMIN E TO MINE. I ALSO USE DISTILLED WATER SO I STORE IT IN THE SAME WATER JUG.*
Did you put 64 oz of water in each bowl? Or split between the two?
Ryan and Hannah Carson Did you ever try to make this? And if you did his sis you do the water? Thanks.
Beverly Burnette yes I tried it. I split the water between the two bowls of soap. It did not work. The soap turned into stringy gel
Ryan and Hannah Carson same here so I have no clue what they did to make it creamy like bodywash. Cause it don't work. Thanks.
I think the oil makes it creamy.
@@beverlyburnettesullivan6022 it's that darn stirer she has.. I wish I had one lol
Yes yes trying to get that recipe for fabric softener
*VINEGAR & CHEAPEST CONDITIONER...VO5...SUAVE..*
Do you still put oil in it if oil of Olay and cress
The major thing no body is telling you about the results, its a shitty outcome that doesn't even clean you, the scent is not gud, basically its a waste of ur time n energy
The proper way seems wid Castile soap which i need to try myself too
I used one bar of home made castile soap. and a tea kettle full of hot water... it did not gel ... so I added another bar.. it did not gel. so I added another bar... it's just liquid... so does this process only work with manufactured soap?
Try guar gum
I dont know any kids that would want liquid soap for christmas😭😢
What you do is get yourself a connect for homemade designer fragrance oils, then mix that in with the body wash before cooking. As a guy, it is impossible to find a great smelling affordable masculine body wash that isn't some junky gel. I am making my own perfume and body wash concoctions from here on out, I'm a mad scientist at this point, but I smell good, all the people I know are getting some of my bootleg perfumes and body washes next year!
I'm thinking when she says "kids" she probably means her grown up children because she's talking about giving them laundry detergent and fabric softener too.
Ok, what did I do wrong? I have tried this 2 times, and both times, it never turned to gel. It stayed as a thin liquid. Don't get me wrong, it works great, but it never gets thick.
Try using Xanthan gum or salt water bath.
What size soap bar did you use
Aunt Saucey it looks I the blue “ice” Irish spring soap
I made this soap but it wouldn't lather. what could I add to get it to lather?
Glycerin
I did this and its like a big glob what should i do?
*USE A HAND MIXER*
Not trying to be gross but I seriously had a flashback of sheep placenta falling out when the soap plopped out of the bowl, anyone else...?
Michael Price no cause I had c section. Never saw or felt it. Sorry.
Omg lol 😂
I have avocado oil, will this work?
I did not just love this recipe. I made more with almond oil and liked it much more than the olive oil. It definitely helps with dry skin. Maybe my next batch I will use shea butter.
*I used coconut oil, & vitamin E.*
Mixes bar soap with untreated, possibly hard, water. Uses no water softener.
Contaminates the soap solution with oil, which interferes with soap, forming an emulsion, eliminating soap’s ability to clean anything. Remains convinced this gloppy mess is a good idea. If you like feeling greasy, just smear the oil on your skin and save yourself the effort of making this.
