I'M EATING COMPOST
LMFAO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
a little bit late but i live on the other hemisphere so....
Anything can be compost 🙄
Don’t make eye contact with me while doing that!!! 😂😂😂
Yes well when we die our bodies become compost as well!
avoid serving this to people if they have a latex allergy because banana peels have similar proteins that can trigger a reaction
Dem I didn’t know that ! Thanks for tell me ! I probably wouldn’t make this but still
Same with kiwi, and water chestnuts! All have the same reactant!
pretty much all tropical fruits jackfruit has latex between the fruit but for some reason I'm okay with it
Avoid serving this to anyone* ftfy
@@zacharypassino4466 you right
I made this tonight!
Some people said it might taste bitter so I caramelised some onions with it, added a bit of butter and cooked it for longer than the video.
It was genuinely nice. Didn’t taste bitter or like bananas, I would honestly recommend giving it a try.
It just tasted like the spices and the texture was pleasant, not dissimilar to the onions.
Vegan butter?
Joe Seward They make vegan butter :) if that’s what your asking.

What I found works better is to boil the banana peels with some broth and seasoning, shred them once they have gotten softer, add the other seasoning and spices and fry that together and then the texture is perfect!

I don't know why people hate on vegans they're like the MacGyver of food. I'm not vegan but I use a lot of vegan recipes especially when I don't have milk or eggs or something like that. And I'm thankful for them creating these recipes because they're very easy, inexpensive most of the time and delicious and probably a lot healthier for you as well.

Vegans didn't come up with this idea. It came from a poor country and the people had to resort to coming up with clever ideas to feed themselves so they wouldn't starve to death!!
@@MoonFireGypsy yes this is true and also some of those people were probably vegans. Also they didn't make all the recipes because a lot of these vegan recipes have high price items that somebody who was impoverished could never barely afford. But good point.
TheLicktySplitz cool thing is that a lot of poor people are accidently some what vegan bc beans, frozen veggies, potatoes, rice, and canned goods are excellent cheap staples:)
I never thought of it this way! When making certain recipes and I’m out of something like milk I usually just use water or skip it and the food doesn’t turn out as good. I’ll definitely be looking at vegan recipes now!

The original recipe, made from plantain peels, is from Venezuela. Actually it is full with fiber and i've eaten it several times. Depending on how you season it, it can taste really good!
That’s cool I didn’t know it was a real thing, can you actually digest it?
They're eating this in Venezuela because there is no food and they have to eat parts that are normally scrapped.. They're eating this because they are starving.
3:28 "Didn't need to make eye contact with me" hahhaha
Merle: I'm gonna make-

Here in Philippines, we have dishes with banana Peel as an ingredient.
You are so fun to watch. I love how I feel I’m being click baited into watching these episodes but then it turns out to be 100% real... and I’m amazed.
Hey it minimizes waste
And it seemed to be tasty
That's pretty good
banana peels are AWESOME!!!!!!
I've been eating it for years. LOVE IT EVERYTIME
I love Merle. She's the reason why I watch her videos.
Hi Merle! Huge fan! Just wanted to let you know, I am a bangali, from the eastern part of India. And we eat raw banana with the peel on in vegetable curries. Also, India is very diverse when it comes to culture, so this might be exclusively a bangali thing. But just wanted to tell you, that this was not at all weird 😁😁😁😁😁 much appreciation and love
Chef Jana also has several other recipes using banana peel: cheese burgers and meatballs (just as yummy as the pulled "pork"). You should definitely give them a try sometime :)
OMG, I love that you did this!!! This is so great!!!
These takes me back to a difficult time in Cuba ( periodo especia) there were nothing to eat and Cubans got creative with the banana and plantain peels as well. God job 👏👏👏👏
Julien did this recipe like maybe last week or two weeks ago. He was so pissed as he was making it😂
„Does it have bugs in it?“ genius question right there.
I love this! This is a thing that started in Brazil (where I am from) a few years ago. It’s actually super yummy and one of my favorite dishes!!
Came back to say these are super delicious! I ended up even making one more! 🤗
The coleslaw looked pretty dry, veganaise tho, really surprised me how genuinely good it is. Some would argue it tastes better than mayo
nicole p as a frequent mayo eater and non-vegan, veganaise is the best
I really hate Veganaise though. It's so tasteless. Nayonnaise was awesome but I can't find it in stores anymore so now I just make it from scratch.
Ya'll need to watch EmmymadeinJapan's video on the topic. You'll know the real tea about using fruit rinds as meat substitutes. ☕️

I feel like it's a pretty good option for vegans, banana peels are quite nutritious and are a source of vitamin B12 and B6, potassium and sodium. As far as I know, vegans struggle with finding a good source of vitamin B12 so I guess it's good for them.
Do you have a source for the claim that it's a good source of B12? B12 is only made by bacteria, and I can't imagine you'd have any appreciable amount in a banana peel.
This seems a pretty poor option nutritionally for vegans to me. Unless your sole aim was weight loss maybe... No protein and fats, which ideally you would want in a substitute for a product like pulled pork. I think this would give me the shits and also just the thought of it triggers a gag reflex! Happily stick with my tempeh and black beans
It's fairly easy you just buy b12 tablets lol
I guess thats so very true, nutrition wise....
The reveal reactions on this vid are gold.
*"I am eating compost!!!" That sure got me!!!* 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Edit: I really wanna try it. Maybe tomorrow breakfast!!!
I tried it and really made sure to scoop all banana off ( as well as add slightly bigger heaps of seasonings) it tastes really nice! I would suggest putting some mashed avocado if you like that, it makes the burger so much better. And salt and pepper

Meagan Ernst No, bbq sauce is not crucial for the recipe.
ilovesparky13 bbq is needed for pulled pork 🙄..even with normal pulled porked

I’m not gonna lie, just made this and it tastes really good. The texture is weird but the flavor is there. If there’s nothing to eat in the house and you had the ingredients, I would definitely recommend it!👍👌
hopefully julien does another video on this
What nutritional value is in this? Like I know it's an option but it's any value on eating it?
I guess it has a good amount of fiber? Mostly the appeal is in cutting down on waste.
not a lot besides the bread, but its just meant as a replacement for the taste and feel of a pulled pork sandwich
This is more to get the taste of a pulled pork sandwich and reduce food waste. The original pulled podk isnt that nutritious anyways. However, there are very nutricious benefitial vegan burgers: one made out of kidney or black beans. You mash the beans and then with oats, tomatoe paste, liquid smoke and seasonings you make a patty. The patty has tons of protein from the beans and the oats
@@couch_philosoph3325 yeah I use black beans on mine but I was curious and after all of you saying they are probably just not a lot besides the feel of pulled pork I don't think it's worth the time when I can just compost the peels anyways.
@@raevix5386 or use the peels as fertilizer for house plants :)

Love how these people get freaked out over eating a banana peel, meanwhile they don't think twice about eating animal sausages that are incased in literal intestines.
yeah because its normal. eating smth foreign is gonna make someone have a reaction
@@carsonallen3783 what constitutes 'normal' is subjective. Also, processed meats weren't 'normal' until pretty recently.
Isabel Humans naturally eat animals. Humans naturally understand the peel of bananas to be inedible waste.

@@annahuynh4843 well yes but actually no
We do this in the Philippines. We have banana peel burgers! 😍❤
In the phillippines we add banana peel to ground beef or pork to make burger patties.

hmmm i never thought of this! i am actually kind of freaked out by this but i might try it !
Merle i love you but I swear i tried it and then the entire afternoon I had stomachache. Also there are so much pesticides in the banana skin... so don’t guys
That's why she said Organic bananas 🙄
I love the asian dude with the glasses.
It' so tasty! Thx
Honestly, I like this
I may actually do this because it’s cheap and reduces waste...
Tell me how it goes. 💛
My brother did it and hated it. But at least I got to make banana bread.
You could just add the peels to a compost pile and use it for fertilizer
The cute little piggies will be grateful (:
I think Julien needed more spices to mask the peel taste...enough spices and you can mask anything
I tried this. I am not full vegan but eat vegetarian/vegan meals. I eyeballed the portions but this was strangely satisfying. Got the BBQ flavor but not as heavy as pork. The texture is just kind of ambiguous mushy and stringy which works. Going to eat this for meals for real.
I'm From West Bengal, India and Green Raw Banana Peel paste fried with onion, garlic, ginger, chilli paste and some salt for seasoning is something that my mum makes sometimes. Its amazing with fluffy steamed rice.
"it doesn't taste like banana"
*BECAUSE IT'S BANANA PELL*
Right🙃
who's the guy who ate everything in one bite 😂
highkey still trying to find him
Tried this at home and it tastes good 🤯
bout to try this
The Venezuelan people are actually eating plantain peels because of the things happening in their country right now.
You can make the pulled pork burger with jackfruit. The taste will be much more appetizing (since it's naturally flavorful) and it has that natural chewiness and elasticity that render the feeling of the pulled pork.
Banana peel has no taste of It's own. It's kind of wasted effort. I mean you can even dunk any bland organic (even random leaves/grass say) in bbq sauce and so much seasoning and make it taste like something else.
Please do try it next with bananafruit. :p
I would be down to try this but I'm just wondering if this has a good amount of nutritional value or if its just a bunch of spices with bbq (sugar and sodium). Like would feel like a filling and healthy meal?
We eat lemon zest on so many things, also Orange, fry patatoe peels and use all sorts of other peels so why not banana? Sounds great! I've seen other récipes with it and seems great.
I need to do this. 😍🙏🏼🙌🏼🍃🥒🥦🌱🌿😋
Surely it would taste bitter when you bit into the peel? I don't imagine that any amount of seasoning would cover the taste. Ima just stick to jackfruit lmao
Alana, maybe not? The bananas she used were ripe and soft so they’re sweeter than the ones I’ve seen used in other videos. The seasoning and sugar in the sauce would also offset any bitterness. It might be worth a try since we throw away banana peels anyways.
Weirdly enough no, I didn't taste any banana at all. Just some chewy string meat thing. I wouldn't know what pork tastes like but the spices made it a good burger
Nope. No bitterness whatsoever.
I wanna try that!😩
That looks like the tasty set
I think they’re overthinking it. Banana peal tastes like nothing, I put it in my smoothies and this sounds delicious. More vitamins
I am super behind on this fad but it's really not a good to eat. If you look at what a banana peel contains it's literally full of "poisons" to stop bugs eating the fruit. If you eat a considerable amount of this you'll start doing damage to yourself
julien WHO
This is a great idea if you want to cut back on waste and maybe can't afford meat or don't eat meat. I love this we go through so many bananas in my house and to not have to throw away the peel would be amazing and a money saver!
I tried this and idk if it's like pulled pork but it is SO GOOD and easy to make, definitely gonna make this for my non vegan friends.
(Tip: add some salt)
