I'm glad you specify organic bananas. I remember watching blender demonstrations at the State Fair back in the 1970s and the man doing the demonstration said the only fruit or vegetable that you wouldn't want to eat the peel or add the peel to a Smoothie was the banana because it was sprayed so heavily to prevent tarantulas from being transported into the country. I also know that buying organic bananas is not normally necessary in terms of eating the banana itself because the peel protects the banana from pesticides and chemicals. But obviously if you're going to eat the peel itself you want to make sure it is chemical free.
Considering that pesticides and herbicides have adjuvants that poke holes in cells in order to usher the active ingredient into the organism, I would never intentionally eat a non-organic banana.
Organic farming also uses pesticides. Just non-synthetic ones. Which can be more dangerous (copper sulfate for example) and because they're often times less effective, they can even be used in higher amounts.
@@Pyriphlegeton, pesticides used in organic farming are not systemic, they degrade rapidly, and are not toxic to humans by the time the produce gets to market. For example, natural Bt toxin is applied typically to the plant. It does not penetrate I to the leaves or fruits, and it rapidly degrades in contact with sunlight and water. Bt toxin in GMOs is present inside every cell of the plant, and cannot be washed off, and it does not degrade, and is in the active form. Bt toxin is highly toxic to gut bacteria.
@@johnkm77 Please substantiate your claim that all organic pesticides are not systemic, degrade before consumption and lose no health risks to humans. the peels will turn dark as it oxidizes really fast. one way of avoiding it is to wash the peels and soak them for just about a few mins in warm water with salt and lemon juice. That reduces the oxidization. try doing this treatment to a few peels and then immediately put them in a zip lock bag and freeze. with the small amount of salt and lemon juice on it it might be good to use after its thawed out.

I started mine with onions in the pan first, than adding ingredients (rather than combining all ingredients in a bowl first) but outcome the same-surprisingly delicious. Love your videos, Derek and Crystal. At least one of my children and one grandchild like and watch, too 💖
Thanks for this. I've been curious but not daring enough to try. Not sure you sold me though. I was wondering if you've tried carrot hot dogs? Again, curious but not daring enough. I trust yours and Crystal's taste buds!
I cook with the riper peels all the time, they are great for "bacon" or just chopped up in curry. You can also cook with Watermelon rind (Indian "sabzi", or you can pickle it). My food budget (and compost pile) has decreased so much since I've learned how to cook with all the "scraps"
I had no idea cooking with banana peels was a thing! Thanks for the fun video!
Love the legit trying for the first time reaction on camera
Wow I never would have thought of that
OMG wow! have just made these all i can say is WOW. cheers jon wales uk
This was a fun video. I loved the little thumbnail staging at the end. 😄🎬
Wow, have to try that!
I like big peasant buns too lol
Don't lie!
@@Simnettnutrition lol
I like big buns! 🤣 Thanks for the laughs and for trying this recipe out for us. You guys are the bomb! 💥
This looks pretty time consuming but I'd be very open to the idea of other banana peel recipes because I eat them daily too and always throw them out. What about just throwing it in a smoothie ? Maybe have it sit in water with sodium bicarbonate to remove the pesticide ? That'd be wild, just imagine inviting a friend and casually throw a few bananas whole in a blender, they'd freak out for sure :D
HAha watching their face would be awesome.
are you actually mad or what?
That burger as a whole loos very apetizing ;)
Hi, my favorite couple. Wow, well I definitely learned something new today. I don't know if I'm adventurous enough to try it. Thanks for broadening my horizons. 🥰👍🥰🥰🥰
So interesting! Thank you x
Great fun guys. I've made similar before but I didn't shred until it was cooked.
I think that helped with the colour. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. But I also didn't make it again.
And ... to be honest, if I recall, it gave us the farts. If I recall correctly. It's been awhile.
I keep thinking maybe I'll try it again but this time in the Instant Pot but haven't yet. Cheers!
Looks good 😋. I'll be giving it a try
I think a little more water and cover it a bit to make it softer and less rubber, but looks amazing.
Am defo gonna try
So cool and interesting!!!
I keep watching these banana peel pulled pork sandwich videos to see if there will ever be a legitimately good reaction lol. So far I think this is the most positive reaction I've seen and the best we get it is "I wouldn't send this back if it was served to me in a restaurant" XD. If I'm going to invest the time into cooking something like this, it has to illicit a bit better of a response than that, haha. It really feels like the purpose of this recipe is social media engagement more than anything else.
Yes Pesticides fungicides herbicides taste great and have that pulled pork flavor . 👌......
Bro that looks good and I'm gonna try that recipe for sure this week for me and my wife....
you have a new water filter, wich brand is it? not more Santevia?
Very unexpected recipe, but so creative! I love it 🙌 You gotta do more of these random taste tests lol
10:50 the differences in bite-sizes. :)
I’ve seen banana peel muffins made with a food processor that sounds more appetizing. But awesome to see you tried it this way!
I’ve made a similar dish using shredded cabbage and it was very tasty.
I am interested to try it out because I don't really like the texture of pulled jackfruit, and I feel like you could dial in the texture of the pulled banana by trying different stages of ripeness. Thanks for the video...
Nice! Yeah pulled jackfruit is good, but I only really like it when it is really dried out and chewy. This isn't much better, but worth a try if you are bored.
@@Simnettnutrition , I tried it, it was okay. In my opinion, not worth the hassle. Also, unless you freeze a large quantity of bananas anyway, it's not practical.
Thanks for the video though. You're always informative and entertaining.
