    My husband & I have lived in Medford for over 40 years and LOVE it! Our daughter, on the other hand, couldn't wait to move to Portland after she graduated from High School. It can get awfully hot during the summer, but the winters aren't too severe. Mrs. T. Brown

    Lots of other things not mentioned, real estate and retals have jumped in price in the last 3 years. Smoke from fires, lots of it.. Medford has a huge homeless poplutaion that has been shipped in from other places, lost of additional crime that came with it.

    Not the list I expected. Per my experience in Medford, I expected: 1) Wildfires and being ready to evacuate at anytime with few evacuation routes; 2) Smoke - it's actually a season now; 3) Heat - the elevation makes the sun feel even more intense and summer temps are sweltering (by the way, what ever happened to that season called Spring that you mentioned?); 4) Water issues - wells are sometimes shared and water resources are scarce during fire season; and 5) Distance from the coast - Medford isn't far from the coast as the crow flies but because of the idiotic road system (no tunnels through the mountains), you have to drive at least 2+ hours instead of 45 minutes to get to the coast for a break from the heat of the valley. Ta da! Honorable mentions? Maybe the local government that doesn't warn people as their town is burning to the ground because they don't want people to "panic". Or those shoppers at the Goodwill wearing their "Fuck Your Feelings" shirts. It's so friendly!

    We did visit Medford last April for 4 nights. Your comment about the weather changing the same day was correct. We flew in on a 88 degree day. The next day was 90 and I was in shorts and tank top. After a late breakfast we drove east for awhile and stopped at Lake of the Woods. The lake was frozen and snow all over the place. I was cold but it was a sunny day and just beautiful. We are looking for a place to retire and have family in Grants Pass. Thanks for the video.

    Absolutely, it's quite laid back around here. Most places tend to wind down by 11:00 p.m., and even many bars close early on weekdays. Interestingly, this area is renowned as one of the top spots for retirement, which is why we have a significant number of seniors residing here. It's worth noting that when it comes to politics, Oregon's voting landscape is heavily controlled by Portland ugghh, lol

    I am a Portland Oregonian born in 2000. The same year when Carl “The Duck Man” Barks died. He was the creator of Donald Duck Comics and had help with another Oregonian Cartoonist named Mike Royer on the Donald Ducks comics while at California.

      @callibor3119 8 місяців тому +1

      Mike and Carl worked on Donald Duck Comics longer than Bob Iger existed as CEO, twice, and they are not being treated nicely at all for all the work they put into working with Disney as Oregonians.
      We have Oregon Ducks for a reason it is by Mike Royer that the Ducks stay Ducks and Donald stays the mascot.

      I am rooting for Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse to be public domain and for the public to give Ub Iwerks, Walt Disney, Hugh Harman and so many others a new light and pass our love for the Disney that we grew up loving and passing it onto the next generations. But it’s difficult since those 2 characters are trademarked.
      I am searching what else is public domain, but our Oregon Duck with Mickey Mouse is being held against the public and I want to be fan of Mickey and Donald like I did when I was kid, before Disney was called “woke.”

    My grandparents live near by and I've been going to the area my entire life. one of my best childhood memories of the area was how clean and clear the air was. I would come back home to SOCAL feeling like my lungs were refreshed. The air quality was pristine, the stars were unbelievable. I've noticed since about 5+ years ago that the air quality is far worse than LA. Everyone burns their trash without care about their neighbors, and everyone lets their burn piles smolder so they produce extra smoke. Smoke fills the valley right after the summer season is over. I don't understand why everyone does it. I actually had to rush my cat to the hospital because the neighbor was burning plastic in their trash and I was getting sick from it too. Laws about trash burning needs to change up there. I love the area because it's not a big city (that is quickly changing).

    • @BuyingSouthernOregon
      @BuyingSouthernOregon  2 місяці тому

      It's actually already illegal to burn trash. This is copied from the Jackson County website.
      Burning of the following are prohibited:
      Household garbage, plastic, wire insulation, automobile parts, asphalt, petroleum products or treated materials, rubber, asbestos, animal remains, animal or vegetable matter resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking or service of food, any material which emits dense smoke or noxious odors.

    Regarding your comment about a person’s views being “politically irrelevant” (due to population size), I think that’s called democracy.
    I live on the Oregon coast in a very rural area, but near a fairly large city. My immediate neighbors lean right and are pretty isolationist-minded. When I go into town, I see people who actually enjoy the diversity and open-mindedness. My immediate neighbors however, hate going into town unless they really need something.

    • @BuyingSouthernOregon
      @BuyingSouthernOregon  9 місяців тому +1

      My comment wasn't about a person's VIEWS being politically irrelevant. It was about the general political landscape in Oregon. The politicians generally center their campaigns around talking points that matter to the people in the bigger cities like Portland, Salem, and Eugene because that's where the votes are. They don't really need to or try to appeal to the needs of the more rural Oregonian's across the state, in most cases. That's what I mean by being irrelevant.
