We lived and worked in Grants Pass for 30 years and only left in 2011 because we got old and tired of the rain and freezing fog in the winter. It WAS a great place, in the 80's-90's, to raise our three kids.
That JetBoat Excursion trip is worth every penny. It’s a blast with great food and a seriously fun guide. Take a super soaker with you because there will be water fights with other boaters and rafters. Water proof bags for your phones is a must unless you’re brave enough to keep it in your car. My absolute favorite Mexican food in Grants Pass is “ Si Casa Flores “ hands down the best. Their daily specials have always hit the spot with me and really easy on the budget. The environment at Si Casa Flores is impeccable. The entire atmosphere is authentic class with lots of plants and water features. I go there often when visiting Grants Pass because the food always has the flavor I’m looking for.
Also. If you’re from the south be careful to enter the Rogue River. It’s cold. If you’re from the north. You already know. If you want warmer water here you go to the Applegate.
I always eat at Jimmy's the best burgers! Back in the early 70's was Bob's Burgers near Riverside Park & best burgers back then when there was one music station KAGI, roller skating at the RollerDrome on Rogue River Hwy was awesome and Battle of the Bands after skating hours over with dancing under black lights and the huge disco ball overhead, sad it gone but forever in many memories. Also was the Redwood DriveIn Theater that was on Redwood Avenue, watched many movies there but gone too forever😢. Instead of riding jet boat excursions on the Rogue River and before the river being made a wild and scenic status many would float on tire inner tubes, rafts and kayaks down river through the Hellgate Canyon to Indian Mary Park for free. So much has changed over the past 50 years about Grants Pass it's just not the same, not to criticize but just plain truth from someone that grew up on an farm where both the Applegate and Rogue Rivers meet to miss the places that friends and families could spend time enjoying camping and picnicking for free such as Schroeder Park, Griffin Park, just too many parks and recreational places that now are Day Use Only and must pay an fee to use them. Guess that's what happens when cities and counties become Commercialized and no longer places for residents to enjoy like was in the past. The farmlands I grew up around gone and city sprawl of condominiums, apartment complexes and homes where dairy cattle and horses grazed, grass covered with buildings everywhere. To me I'll never forget how Grants Pass areas used to be like, the Proud Caveman north end of town still there nestled in the trees...semi forgotten and replaced with artistic Bear statues, parades used to have men dressed as Cavemen out front, but ever since Grants Pass became an All American City many years back the theme changed and so has the town. I'm happy that the It's The Climate street banner still there, I miss the old Grants Pass with the Mode of Day Clothing Shop, the Golden Rule, The Cue, etc. Blind George's isn't quite the same either.
