Kratos should’ve asked himself how Odin knew where he was in Svartalfheim and what he was doing and Atreus should’ve asked himself how does Odin know that he doesn’t live in the cabin anymore.
This is how you know Kratos has really become a father. Everyone else is angry and suspicious of Atreus but Kratos can see that his son is in pain. He knows that people who are confused and frightened don't need people to be angry. They need someone to be there for them.
Normally, Atreus would make excuses. Normally, Kratos would scold him. Normally, the others would come to the former's defense. Interesting to see roles reversed. Shows how much both have grown.
I think it's so heartfelt and in character how Kratos stops his hug momentarily before going back into it again. It speaks volumes about his thought process. Initially he reciprocates glad that Atreus is safe, though in line with his demeanor the hug would be brief. But seeing as how Atreus continued to hug him tightly, Kratos knew better as a parent that his son needed it more and then asked him what's wrong. I also think it could be a small vestige of how he would admit to Atreus later on that he was falling back into his old ways of being distrustful. The hug was a way of showing that he was finally getting past that. Edit: Looking at the comments here, I feel that I should say some things; things that should've been said earlier. To everyone, I am overwhelmed by and greatly appreciate your support and positivity in the comments. I am also thankful to those who have defended me. Everyone has the right to express themselves as they wish, this we can all get behind on I’m sure. But there is also value in silence and letting sleeping dogs lie, when it counts. By this, I mean that while I appreciate your support in expressing opinions and passion in art, I see no need in hammering down or singling out another individual to drive a point across. If anything, continuing to do so becomes counterproductive and just turns into another form of bullying altogether. My heart soars that we have such positivity present here, but let us take care not to let such passion indirectly be channeled into what we strive to fight against. To set a record straight, I never took the comment to be directly attacking or that hurtful. As many of you have noticed, yes my response was a way of turning the cheek; a more playful and positive response. Additionally, I know how verbose I can be as a person, and sometimes that can be off putting to others. Maybe it’s not something to apologize for, but I would rather excuse myself than leave it as is without being considerate even if it’s a bit much. I think this scene is really touching on multiple levels. When Kratos visits the Nors you see his worst nightmare is losing his son to Odin, driving his own kid away. Also when he asks what do I call you, you can hear that fear coming through, that he still might have lost him. But when he runs in for the hug you can see the relief. He is so relieved that his son still wants him as his father. That he hasn’t chosen Odin over him.
The norns warned that’s what would happen if he continued his current patterns of behavior and decision making. Kratos was just THERE for Atteus, was the only one to suggest fixing this mistake, and throughout helheim ensured he and atreus addressed their issues with each other. As a result, Atreus does not hesitate to remain with Kratos until it is time to find the giants. Well fucking played norns indeed
Just noticed that Odin kinda gave away that he knew more about where Atreus was living. The lines about the company Atreus keeps and how one of his ravens would be waiting for him in his OLD home show that Odin knew Atreus was hanging around multiple people, not just Kratos, who are his enemies, and that it wasn't at the house him and Thor visited. Good stuff, Santa Monica Studios.
Exactly, and since his raven spies can't enter the realm between realms, the ONLY way for him to have such knowledge was for him to either have physically been there and experienced everything firsthand, OR if he had a mole hidden among the people in Sindri and Brok's house. Since the second scenario is entirely unlikely, the former was the only valid explanation. Unfortunately nobody else had the foresight or was clever enough to figure that out before he revealed himself by killing Brok
actually his ravens can enter the realms between realms however they can’t teleport in it, he somehow managed to sneak a raven and hid it in his dark ass room
@@davidcrawford5324 They CAN enter the realm between realm. Odin needs to know where to go is all. Once they walked Odin into Brok and Sindri's home, he would know to return exactly there.
Well he did know Mimir was living with him in his old home, but literally everything else subtly gives it away. Also the fact that "Tyr" asked if it was Loki's doing despite NEVER ONCE hearing the name before. Even if he had, it would probably be brought to his attention that it was Atreus' birth name.
I don't really wish to dismiss your praise towards such a masterpiece, but what Odin calls Atreus' company can very well just mean Kratos and Mimir, and him talking about their old home doesn't necessarily imply that he knows where they all reside now, just that he knows they left the house
"Garm! Great bleeding fuck lad you freed Garm?" *Mimir said calmly* i just i can't with his reaction he rarely looses his crap but when he does somehow it's lowkey hilarious
You know you f*cked up when Mimir starts to fuss at you. I may not know much of Norse mythology but a giant wolf chained up in hell for whatever reason and then released is never a good thing
Letting Mimir, Freya and Odin Tyr mildly chastise Atreus before cutting them off is such a dad thing to do. It made sure he understood the gravity of his mistake before he assured Atreus they would fix it. He wanted him to experience that brief moment of hopelessness as a means of cementing the lesson he needed to learn.
I think it's more like Kratos had no idea who Garm is, how bad the situation is, the context of Hel Walkers popping out of nowhere in a place where it should be impossible for them to reach, and what Atreus is talking about when he says it's his fault. so he lets the Norse experts (Mimir, "Tyr" and Freya) speak so that he understands the weight of the situation, then cuts them off so that Atreus doesn't feel worse than he already is, then says the one thing his son REALLY needed to hear from the most important person in his life; "We'll fix it"
The best part about this is that despite their disagreements and arguments, Atreus knows he can return to Kratos even when he messes up. This scene reminds me of at the beginning of the game, when Atreus tells his father to stop thinking like a father and think like a general and Kratos’ response is to shout “NO!” Kratos just can’t seem to turn of dad-mode and Atreus knows it
I love at 5:53 when Atreus goes "Whoa! They explode?" when Kratos uses the Draupnir spear, and Freya has to redirect him. Even with everything else going on, he's still a teenage boy, and an infinitely regenerating spear that also EXPLODES is going to capture his interest.
"One that we---will fix. Together." Atreus owned up to his mistake, and instead of letting Atreus languish in guilt and condemnation from the others, Kratos put a silence to them, acknowledged that Atreus made an error but said, we will fix this. Took responsibility even though it wasn't his fault. Authentic, fatherhood, manhood or more accurately grace--whatever you want to call it, it is so powerful.
I really liked the detail when kratos asked "what do i calk you?" And responded with "atreus" this shows how strong their bond is how close they are. Even though atreus went against his dads wish he still cares about him. It shows that kratos is not only a warrior but also a father who loves his Son Edit: when atreus hugs him and kratos hugs him back then lets go for a moment and hugs him again, and the soundtrack helps us see just how close they are how much Kratos cares for his son. He is the father every son should have
I cried when I finished this game. Angry Kratos made me think so much of my own father, but to see him change and become the father Atreus needed because he loved his son so much. Just made me wish my own dad was able to make this change.
This video and the scenes in it help contrast Kratos and Odin perfectly. Odin, whilst aware of Garm's rampage, makes it clear he's not going to intervene with his line "We're safe in Asgard", showing his utter apathy towards the suffering of others and how he passive-aggressively guilt trips Atreus, "But freeing Garm, that was a big one (mistake)". He's also likely more upset over the lack of a new mask part. Kratos, upon learning what Atreus did, rather than chew him out, immediately tells his son that they will fix it. Not just to help Atreus mend his mistake, although that is easily a big part of it considering his own past, but because he's witnessed first hand what Garm's freedom has wrought. He knows they have to stop any more damage from being done.
As a father.......this scene had me tearing up.......at the end of the day you'd do anything for your son no matter what they do.......brings into perspective Freya in the 1st game
It’s so incredible to see how far these guys have come and just how much Atreus has grown to love Kratos. Parents for the most part have an innate love for their kids but kids don’t always have an innate love for their parents. In the first game Atreus wished that Kratos had died instead of Faye and resented Kratos for being the one that lived. Now it looks like Kratos has become Atreus’s safe place for the most part. And it’s so interesting to see Atreus trying to be this big, strong god and “champion of the giants” Loki to crying in his father’s arms. I’m not saying that as a pass on Atreus either, he knows he messed up and he knows his father will do anything to help him fix his mistakes and he’s just been through crap with Thrud being mad at him, Heimdall bullying him, Thor threatening him and Odin being mad at him but I’m really subtle, mind messing ways. And for Kratos, we saw that his biggest fear is losing Atreus and he’s said time and time again that he would do anything, including going to full scale war, to keep Atreus safe. He’s also scared of backpedaling to where they were in GOW 2018 with Atreus resenting him and turning to anyone else even Odin. I think him asking Atreus what he should call him is his way of trying to get Atreus to like and trust him again by going with Atreus’s ideas and showing Atreus accepts him. I think Atreus realizes his father is one of very few people who will always be with him on whatever he decides and will always accept him for who he is. Obviously Kratos is also very scared to lose another child especially as horrifically as he did Calliope. To me this scene perfectly captures a scared little kid running to their father looking for one of the most basic and early forms of comfort.
7:21 "What do I call you?" I love the subtle messages Kratos is communicating in this one sentence. It's an acknowledgment of Atreus' will, a yearning for him to return, the opposite of shunning him. It's a perfect response for an ashamed Atreus who wants to return.
Sobbing? I don't mean to sound "edgy" or whatever the kids say today, and I don't know your age, but the infantilization of adults in this country is becoming epidemic
Once again I should have known to reply to an adult human being with a cartoon character as their profile picture. You people are all exactly the same. Jesus it's pathetic.
I like the idea that 2 of the main reasons for Kratos defending his son in this instance: The first is obvious, Atreus took responsibility as a man instead of making excuses. The second was also a standard that Kratos set near the beginning with Lyngbakr. Atreus saw a chained up wolf that looked miserable, much like Lyngbakr, and was unaware of its nature. Kratos made great mention that he hates this sort of treatment, being a former slave himself.
“Get off your back!” The way a father would somehow always swoop in at last second to help you out of a bind even after knowing that you had fucked everything up. I lost my father a couple years back and knowing that there’s no one to pull me out of the fire this time around will forever haunt me.
Dunno bout anyone else but the entire scene where they hugged just makes me tear up. The amount of emotions they put into this game its becoming really hard to handle. "What do i call you?" I thought he was gonna say his name but when he hugged him it just said so much more.
this and the last hug he shares with his son always melts my heart, you can finally see Kratos begin to relax in the last one, throughout the game he's constantly on edge ready for battle but once Odin is no more, and the 8 realms are safe, you see him relax as he holds his son before his son leaves and he's just happier, he knows Atreus is ready, and now he can concentrate on being the god he's always wanted to be he maybe the god of war, but now he can do it his way
You see here that even though Atreus messed up and he admits to it kratos still stands by his son and tells everyone to back off and leave him alone...it's a mistake that we'll fix...kratos may be a a tough god of war but he still has that soft side when it comes to his family and friends
To be fair to Atreus, Odin didn't warn him nor Thrud about Garm AT ALL. I assume it was part of his plan to delay Ragnarok. as someone else in the comment section said, it allowed Odin to ruin Atreus's trust in his friends by having the whole group, himself as Tyr included, scold him, making Odin appear as the greater source of empathy. And don't you find it strange he said that it wouldn't affect Asgard at all? He likely intended for Atreus to free Garm to delay the progress of Kratos and the others via Helheim tears everywhere in the other 8 realms. And to make it all work, he went back to his Tyr disguise and refused to help them fight off the Hel walkers, likely hoping they would lose. Little did he know Kratos and Atreus would reconnect.
6:33 I like how mimir calls tyr/Odin useless this hits differently after knowing this but I would’ve loved to see the real tyr actually fighting something I bet tyr only fights when he needs to fight
You could see what Kratos was thinking when Atreus hugged him. At first he didn't expect the hug but then you could see him get sad for his son, think for a second, get mad as to why he would've returned (maybe Odin wronged him) and then back to concern for his son.
The massacre of millions and a country destroyed. ;3 atreaus was rather tame. My question was - did those monsters ever got to civilization and reck havoc or was it all an isolated incident.
I like that in spite of the rest of the game pushing Atreus to grow up and mature it has this moment when Atreus is shown to still be a child. When things go horribly wrong he gets home sick and just wants his father to comfort him and tell him things are going to be OK.
I love how Odin was fairly to Atreus at first. "You screwed up. It doesn't change the fact that you're welcome here." is the kind of thing a really good dad would say. But Odin a good dad or a good person, but he's damn good at looking like he is. He's a master manipulator and knows how to make Atreus and even the player feel almost like we can trust him. It's amazing writing.
Remember The mask? Stanley Ipkiss would wear the mask and become a green faced animated character and utilizes slapstick humor making a mess out of his opposition? That mask was created by Loki. Really wanted Atreus to wear it lol, and go berserk lol

Kratos: You’ve done fucked up, boi!
he remembered his promise to Faye and he knows that Atreus needs father more than teacher, he already knows he fucked up and needs someone to help him
That's interesting, I never noticed that till now.
And “Tyr” seems extremely upset while Odin is a lot more understanding, interesting….
Which one is the former
I do hope that I can continue to see more comments about this moment in the game. By Kratos wisdom, I hope we can all just take this as a lesson, and move forward amicably.
Please for the love of god go outside

@@Spooks_yeah I did in fact go outside today, thanks for your concern! If you're finding the frequency which I've been commenting on these videos annoying, I apologize. I've been enjoying the game a lot and enjoy sharing opinions and engaging in conversations about a work of art like this.
@@chakinabox do not stop giving us these detailed explanations
I think this scene is really touching on multiple levels. When Kratos visits the Nors you see his worst nightmare is losing his son to Odin, driving his own kid away. Also when he asks what do I call you, you can hear that fear coming through, that he still might have lost him.
But when he runs in for the hug you can see the relief. He is so relieved that his son still wants him as his father. That he hasn’t chosen Odin over him.
😊😊😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
"Garm! Great bleeding fuck lad you freed Garm?" *Mimir said calmly* i just i can't with his reaction he rarely looses his crap but when he does somehow it's lowkey hilarious
i thought it was great seeing his aggressive side develop in this game. it led to some pretty hilarious dialogue, this line especially
@@A-Ner2 It's delightful but also i can't even call it aggresive tbh he's just..exasperated beyond words
Reminds me of something my dad once said to me
"I will always make sure you understand the weight of your mistakes, but I will never let you drown"
@@mugsmcratmin6842and llll
I think it's more like Kratos had no idea who Garm is, how bad the situation is, the context of Hel Walkers popping out of nowhere in a place where it should be impossible for them to reach, and what Atreus is talking about when he says it's his fault. so he lets the Norse experts (Mimir, "Tyr" and Freya) speak so that he understands the weight of the situation, then cuts them off so that Atreus doesn't feel worse than he already is, then says the one thing his son REALLY needed to hear from the most important person in his life; "We'll fix it"
@@neo-warkid4edwards222That and Kratos has lots of experience with making big mistakes that have a huge impact on the world.
The best part about this is that despite their disagreements and arguments, Atreus knows he can return to Kratos even when he messes up.
This scene reminds me of at the beginning of the game, when Atreus tells his father to stop thinking like a father and think like a general and Kratos’ response is to shout “NO!”
Kratos just can’t seem to turn of dad-mode and Atreus knows it
Considering the last time Kratos switched off "Dad mode" and went full General, his last family felt it for all of twenty seconds.
8:46
I love how Kratos firmly says "Atreus", as in he is not Loki, he is his boy.
I like how even the weapons hate Odin and is reinforced by Odin disrespectfully dropping Ingrid on the dead without any care.
I really liked the detail when kratos asked "what do i calk you?" And responded with "atreus" this shows how strong their bond is how close they are. Even though atreus went against his dads wish he still cares about him. It shows that kratos is not only a warrior but also a father who loves his Son
Edit: when atreus hugs him and kratos hugs him back then lets go for a moment and hugs him again, and the soundtrack helps us see just how close they are how much Kratos cares for his son. He is the father every son should have
I cried when I finished this game. Angry Kratos made me think so much of my own father, but to see him change and become the father Atreus needed because he loved his son so much. Just made me wish my own dad was able to make this change.
You finish the game? Can I have the disk ?
Bro nobody cares abt ur dad problems
Your dad aint that sigma
I hope you have a better relationship with your father now ☹️💖🙏🏽
Yeah, I do too hope that your relationship with your father gets better. 🙏
The performances in this were amazing. Richard schiff owned his role.
7:37 Kratos's expression, he tried so hard to hold back his tears
God he’s such a good dad, he put aside his anger as soon as Atreus wanted that hug
2:50 You can pet the doggos. Game of the Year right here.
But Elden ring won,I have nothing against souls games but ragnarok not winning was a crime imo
This game was truly an emotional roller coaster had me in tears
It's nice to see them together again before Ragnarok happen.
Ngl I hated it when people called him Loki
To me he’s always Atreus no matter what
The story of the name was so heartwarming too
I mean thats the point i feel right?
Well in the actual myth of atreus in Norse mythology loki is his true name
@OnlyRetroGames I think so. It's like we as players are like Kratos trying to keep him as Atreus but he wants to go out as Loki.
It's so heartbreaking to hear Kratos ask Atreus "What do i call you?" as in "Are you my son or are you Loki"
You can tell Kratos is furious at Atreus, Then Atreus hugs him without a word. Kratos might still be mad, but now’s not the time to express it
I love mimirs reaction to garm being free at 8:26
As a father.......this scene had me tearing up.......at the end of the day you'd do anything for your son no matter what they do.......brings into perspective Freya in the 1st game
not only was the scene emotional but there's something about the music from 7:38 to 8:08 that really brings me to tears❤️
Mimir: YOU FREED GARM!?
'Tyr': **surprised Pikachu face*
Atreus' face at 7:32 is just...I can't even find the words.
Odin reminds me of Palpatine in some ways. Anyone else feel that.
i didn’t think of that until now but yes! i see it too.
@@nbkx1963 he’s so manipulative. It fits
Yup. Both villains played both sides like a fiddle to the end and met their end before a father and son.
I can see how they're comparable.
I can see it. The manipulation game is s tyr
Everytime Atreus hugs Kratos Kratos struggles with holding back his tears
8:27 I just love how mimr reaction was after hearing garm is free.
At 9:11 Kratos takes Mimir and goes to give him to _Tyr_ only to literally go ''Nope'' and actually give him to Freya lmao, love it
7:21 "What do I call you?"
I love the subtle messages Kratos is communicating in this one sentence. It's an acknowledgment of Atreus' will, a yearning for him to return, the opposite of shunning him. It's a perfect response for an ashamed Atreus who wants to return.
Kratos had the most character development in this game
"This is a fuck-up of not insignificant proportions!"
"off your back" "a Spartan NEVER lets his back hit the ground!" Nice little throwback there.
That's was deep and I almost cry
Can’t lie

Right. I find it impossible to shed a tear at any show or video game. But holy hell Atreus running to his papa was a punch in the gut
Sobbing? I don't mean to sound "edgy" or whatever the kids say today, and I don't know your age, but the infantilization of adults in this country is becoming epidemic

@@richspeck8932 what
I like the idea that 2 of the main reasons for Kratos defending his son in this instance:
The first is obvious, Atreus took responsibility as a man instead of making excuses.
The second was also a standard that Kratos set near the beginning with Lyngbakr. Atreus saw a chained up wolf that looked miserable, much like Lyngbakr, and was unaware of its nature. Kratos made great mention that he hates this sort of treatment, being a former slave himself.
✨A Spartan very let his back hit the ground, right brother 🗿🪖✨
5:05 "A Spartan never lets his back hit the ground,"

“Get off your back!” The way a father would somehow always swoop in at last second to help you out of a bind even after knowing that you had fucked everything up.
I lost my father a couple years back and knowing that there’s no one to pull me out of the fire this time around will forever haunt me.
9:04
I like how he first hands mimir to tyr then probably think “no fuck you man” and goes to Freya instead
Dunno bout anyone else but the entire scene where they hugged just makes me tear up. The amount of emotions they put into this game its becoming really hard to handle.
"What do i call you?" I thought he was gonna say his name but when he hugged him it just said so much more.
"Oh, and...say 'hi' to Mimir for me!" Odin is such a mean girl. Call him Odina George
"lasa, fresa!"
"Wow that's explode?!"
"Atreus focus!"
Literally me everytime I tried to study
this and the last hug he shares with his son always melts my heart, you can finally see Kratos begin to relax in the last one, throughout the game he's constantly on edge ready for battle
but once Odin is no more, and the 8 realms are safe, you see him relax as he holds his son before his son leaves and he's just happier, he knows Atreus is ready, and now he can concentrate on being the god he's always wanted to be
he maybe the god of war, but now he can do it his way
I love how pretty much every high level divine being in the series went like 'You did WHAT?!"
VGS is posting well edited GOW vids.
All is right with the world.
The way freya sigh bro lol she be annoyed
'Tyr': Garm? Who freed Garm? That's madness? Surely not you, young one...?
Don't play dumb with us. U was informed 10 minutes ago
"Off your back" nice homage

I loved it when Kratos and Arterus hugged in this scene its just my favorite scene 💕
6:33 I like how mimir calls tyr/Odin useless this hits differently after knowing this but I would’ve loved to see the real tyr actually fighting something I bet tyr only fights when he needs to fight
One of the most beautiful moments of all time
,,What do I call you?"
You could see what Kratos was thinking when Atreus hugged him. At first he didn't expect the hug but then you could see him get sad for his son, think for a second, get mad as to why he would've returned (maybe Odin wronged him) and then back to concern for his son.
I feel like all our collective inner children were like "Dad's here! It's gonna be fine." when Kratos showed up.
This is cool, kratos knows better than anyone about fuccking up
The massacre of millions and a country destroyed. ;3 atreaus was rather tame.
My question was - did those monsters ever got to civilization and reck havoc or was it all an isolated incident.
A child will make a mistake, its a fathers job to set it straight and let him learn from his doing along the way.
5:04 reinforment have arrive
I love how he says "off your back," calling back to his training with Deimos: "A spartan never lets his back hit the ground".
Surely Mimir was a calm and reasonable person that day...
Atreus: Whoa! They explode?
Freya: ATREUS FOCUS!
Love how Freya talks to Atreus like he's her son.
This scene actually made me tear up a bit damn this game is great
I like that in spite of the rest of the game pushing Atreus to grow up and mature it has this moment when Atreus is shown to still be a child. When things go horribly wrong he gets home sick and just wants his father to comfort him and tell him things are going to be OK.
My favorite little detail is when kratos detonates his spears, atreus gets distracted by how cool it is.
