Myers is an amazing talent but let’s not place the weight of the world on his shoulders. Hopefully he continues to develop and find joy in running
There are lots of 16-year-old phenoms. Some of them peak while still teenagers. Others keep improving. Time will tell on Myers.
He’s on his way but he has to improve 6-8 seconds to be elite that’s going to take a while and a lot can happen or not happen in between
1:21 It wasn’t just a meet in Australia it was the national championships final, in which he competed in the Open Age Group, coming 2nd in all of Australia
No it wasn't, it was a milers meet. Not a national championship. There are like 5 milers meets in the span of 4 months
I think this is great for Jakob. New challengers will push each other to new heights of greatness.
Jakob and Cameron are exactly what this world needs right now. Constantly setting new records, constantly improving... becoming massive threats to the 1500 and mile world record (Both were set circa 2000). These two runners are, without a doubt, going to destroy both of the world records. The great Hicham El Gerrouj was about 25-26 years old when he set both the 1500m and mile world records. Jakob has 3 years to go to get to that age, and Cameron is turning 17 in a week. If neither of them are at their peak right now, get ready for those records to be broken constantly in the next 5-10 years...
They do have the benefit of improved footwear technology and many other aspects that would have benefitted runners from the past, no more cinder tracks and even now as new tracks are laid they talk about them being fast, tech is definitely helping , along with the training regimes of course , and hopefully no peds
I hope Cam is well managed over the next 6 years, the transition to senior ranks is tough. If you look at the history of very young mid distance high achievers , very few of them ever end up with Olympic or world champs medals, Ryun, Cram, Ingebrigtsen are the only ones that come to mind,( may have missed one or two). Wish him all the best.
Athing Mu, apologies if spelt wrong and Keely Hodgkinson
This kid is no threat to Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Even asking that question seems a bit ridiculous. I do wish him the best and I’d love to see him winning races in the big races in the future.
If he continues improving at this pace he and Jakob will be great competition for each other.
Same for Jakob with El Guerrouj there's no comparison

@@LEGl1999 Bro you comment the same stuff on every video. Jakob has run faster on short track 1500m than EL g did . Jakobs 5000 is also faster than EL g. So indoor 1500 Jakob is like a meter in front of el g and in the 5000 several meters in front of el g.
It means little at junior level.
At 16 it is just a promise, not yet a threat, glad to have him, and congratulations young man, but, you have a lot of work to do.
Myers isn’t gonna burn out he just ran a 3:33 U18 1500m and is showing an uprising similar to Jakob. He is defo a threat
Very promising talent, no doubt. But also keep in mind when comparing to Jakob I. that he rarely was running for PB. The season where he was 16, the ONLY race he competed against better athletes, was in the Stockholm Diamond League. In a race where he quickly was left behind and running solo 20 meters behind the rest of the field. And the wind was 6 to 8 m/s so absolutely no perfect conditions. That he was capable of at least 2-3 seconds better time that season is almost certain. Which seems even more plausable when we know he ran 3.31 the year after, at 17.
But can Myers be at Jakobs level when he is 22? hard to tell but absolutely one of the most promising together with Dutch runner Niels Laros.
Future for Myers looks bright...but always the risk of burn-out!! Particularly when performing at such a high level!
"could this be the beginning of the end for the Norweign legend?"....uh...the guy is 22 years old. It's not even the end of the beginning for this guy. Pleeeeeeseeeee
We are looking forward to see Cameron Myers run sub 3.32 next year as Jakob did when he was seventeen. But you didn't mention that. Why?
Well Myers just ran a 3:33 a month after your comment so….

Yeah, Myers is only 16, but improvement is not always linear nor is it always constant from year to year. Plus, there's a world of difference between 3:28 and 3:38 for 1,500m. Maybe check back when Myers can break 3:50 in the mile, because at this point, he's not even in the same zip code as Jakob.
5 years
He has now run 3.33
He actually ran 3:49 in the mile just yesterday.
He makes it look easy.
Cameron Mayers looks older and more developed than others. I hope he keeps up his progress though.
Everyone's crown is always in jeopardy. It's the very reason people compete.
i wish the kid well. There is a massive bridge to cross from where he is to where Jakob is. Only very few get there. The obstacles he faces are women, booze and clubs
why,
Intresting story, but in the end Jakob is the King. Period.
What are you talking about? Let's see how Cameron does at the senior level. Progression to the top level is not guaranteed.
Why hype kids on the come up? Let them develop and see if they have sticking power. There are going to be young guys like this every single year everywhere in the world who post promising times but never materialize into world-class competitors. As time goes on, past records get broken -- what records Ingebrigsten broke when he was younger will be broken, just as all of Galen Rupp's seemingly untouchable American records are. People get faster over time, but what matters is what Ingebrigsten is doing today and it's so weird to be comparing an amateur talent to arguably the top middle distance talent in a generation. You're only using Ingebrigsten's name to boost your views because you know nobody would click on your video if the title was just this amateur kid's name.
Hello there
I would greatly appreciate your input. We want to encourage people to enjoy skiing and running, and one way we do this is by presenting great athletes.
Young athletes should be allowed to develop at their own rate. However, recognizing their accomplishments can spur others and rekindle interest in the sport. No pressure will be applied to Cameron Myers, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen's achievements won't be questioned. Instead, we want to present the most interesting new middle-distance running research.
You're bang on - records are made to be broken! We mention well-known athletes not for clicks but to give context.
Your suggestions are crucial and will help us develop our future material. Thanks.
And remember...keep on running
You are absolutely right on all points raised....If Cameron Myers runs a 3.31 1,500m at 17 as Jakob did, then I would take closer order.
Referring to the uploaders statement "This might be the start of a new era"....but it could also be not, time will tell!!
MOST athletics teenage phenoms never become great senior athletes. It's simply a case of "wait and see"
The 7:52 impressed me more to be honest
Ummm ok then 😂. Jakob is what, 5 years advanced from where Cameron now is? For sure Cameron is a prodigy of note and someone to watch for the future. But please let the young man develop, finish school and become an adult athlete before adding pressure to him to compete with someone who is at the moment in a totally different league to him.
And yes I look forward to maybe a few good showdowns between the 2 of them in years to come, but please for now stop with the clickbait 😅😂
💪!!✊👌
Reality check: there are many " threats" based on talent & limited # of good times run, however, this is always the case.
The cream rises & has already risen to the top.
Just look @ Timothy Cheryriot---he was a " massive threat "
How did that materialize?
It didn't, as Jakob Ingebrigtsen became Olympic Champion, with his gold medal performance & also World Champion in the 5,000.
It's easy to hpye up so called " contenders to the throne"--However ,Ingebrigtsen has proven himself SO MANY TIMES----the rest is just hyperbole & incessant chatter...... dream on, Jakob's here to stay!😮
& has now broken the the 2mile WR 7:54:10, leaving EVERYONE way back in the dust
( 2nd place was 20 seconds back!)
& now a 3:27:95
Still not convinced?
Then you are daft beyond recompense.
Kid ain’t no threat to Jakob
Jakob no threat to El Guerrouj wr
@@LEGl1999 Yes he is.
@@LEGl1999yes he is
@@robinbauer1975 Still 2 seconds far tho he needs to work his ass off more just to come close 😉
No doubt he's a Cross Country whizz too...
I understand that you are malicious in undermining the achievements of the Ingbrigtsen family. To those who read your messes, I wish them caution!
If I had a penny for every time a good youngster is called Ingerbritsens replacement I'd be a rich man
Ingebrigtsen is not that athlete to be replaced he's mediocre there's legends like El Guerrouj that needs to be replaced not Jakob
He's taken his mile, 1500 and 3000 records. One could be called lucky. To take all three of his age group records is dominance and add some respect to it.
Too many repetions and exaggerations.
Niels Laros just ran 3:32 at 18
