Embrace the Darkneees.
Also for clarification the top numbers are frets and the roman numerals under are degrees relative to the minor scale.
Nik Nocturnal bro I’m a self taught simpleton I don’t understand your language 😩
Really, he's clarifying that the Roman numerals represent the minor scale in full. If you know you're Roman numerals then you would better understand this subject. Just learn musical theory and you will understand. :)
Joshua Pleasant dude I’m a simpleton I can’t
Dude, is there any tabs for your videos of this caliber. It all just sounds absolutely amazing and I want to learn it, but I don't have much time to learn it by ear
Nik Nocturnal Damn it Nik it's not 2009 anymore🤘
You can pull my 1-1-1-1 progression from my cold, dead, sweaty hands god dammit.
;)
i endorse this
“This isn’t darkness... this is... advanced darkness”
yes
Jack Hulvey THIS IS SPARTA!
In other words learn the Harmonic Minor and Phygerian scales.
Essentially.
Hungarian
Phrygian?
@@AristoCrow si, 19yo me did not know how to spell it😂😂
Ripped jeans, a ripped jacket, what's next? a ripped guitar?
i can tell you what isn't next, a ripped bod ;p
nah he is ripped, on his own way
i agree he is ripped, just not in physique
I just imagined a guitar with abs
ripped underwear ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I think it’d be pretty cool if you added some examples of bands that use said cord progressions in the description or the video. Besides the obvious ones, of course. I think that’s what all of the videos similar to this should have.
I think that's a great idea, I'll consider doing it for future vids. :)
You should do a video for the brightest chord progressions in metal
Stuff like
i - bVI - bIII - bVII
I - vi - IV - V
i - bVII - bVI - bVII
bVI - bVII - I - V
Great idea!
Yes!
The numbers Mason, What do they mean...
“The darkness that remains” is actually one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard👌
DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA CIRCUS DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA AFRO CIRCUS
Ha yessss, i love that movie😂
The best musicsss
*very spoopy*
tytyty
Really happy you took that extra time to do the explanations at the end. These chord progression themes are my favorite videos
Thanks Bailey, glad you enjoy them!
You should make video game soundtracks
I'd love to make a little video game EP one day.
This dude is one hell of a metal guitarist.. every video I’ve seen.. makes ya realize how good he is while joking around and not trying at all.. he can make ya laugh too.. with stuff like that intro
Thank you for the kind words Devin :)
Dat intro tho
;)
-"Wait, that's a dude singing?"
I legit thought you were gonna sing for a moment
Maybe I was
His singing was so good, that humans can't hear it
Dammit Jake, it isn't 2010 anymore is me.
But also wait is that a dude singing.
And Pyramids n shit
Shokran?
This was a kick-ass idea Nik! Awesome video as always and I've got to say that Darkness That Remains was my favorite! Well done and informative! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Gavin! :)
Your videos are super inspirational man
Sick progressions man.
I loved the video, Thank you for the great content Nik!
Thanks Shianna!
You're welcome!
Nice work man, loved it!
Thanks Max!
Opeth IS the darkest chord progression. I've only been into the for about 2 years but I'm pretty sure their music has caused me to become possessed by some demons. DAMN OPETH
Love your videos man! keep it up
Thanks Mayowa! :D
Dude that intro killed me xD
Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed it!
"Bruh, just diminish it" I lost it!!!
:)
Thanks, dude!
Love the little explanation! Kinda makes me want a series that you do a tiny bit of theory and how to apply it 🤔🤔🤔
I might start doing some theory videos, I mainly just explain it through private lessons instead though.
Nice vid very insightful 👏🏼👍🏼
Thanks Ashraf!
My favorite one is darkness that remains.
Lol! At dude singing. I could totally hear a vocalist behind perfectly for that style. Nailed it.
Great video
Also for pyramids 0-1-4-5 works well
We want more PYRAMIDS & SH*T and all these phrygians stuff ! This is the main thing I like in prog metal/djent, great vid !
a video on the most common chord shapes and their names would be cool too.Or if you had a small tab chord shape diagram to go along with. love the videos.cheers.
I did a video on most used chords in metal a while back, check it out :)
That intro has got to be the most edgiest youve made
Love your vids bruh
Aha thank you my friend!
Absolutely sick man ! Good riffs to bang it
pd: an idea could be 10 types of dual guitars maybe
Thanks Leonardo, interesting idea, would be hard to pull off but I'll look into it. :)
Please make these into full songs
“Wait thats a dude singing” sounds so much like Defeater, if you’ve ever listened to them. Specifically their song “Empty Glass”
I'll check them out :)
Now for the brightest sounding chord progression
Nik I'm just starting out learning guitar are you able to do a video on the best way to self teach yourself and the basics to learn first, keep rocking bro 🤘
We all know that the most darkest progressions are made by oceano
Basically the "Bruh, just diminish it"
They use a lot of dimished styled ones for sure.
i love dimished chords
That good ol 000000000001
The Toecutter thumbs up another awesome video!!! 👍🏼
Thanks dude!
Bruh, just diminish it had me in stitches
:D
Make a video on the types of classical metal riffs or chords :D
No Walls - Famous last words, please coverrrr
Could you please elaborate more on how to read these I’m loving these tutorial vids and also a drum video would be awesome if like to learn how to write metal drums
My favorite intro so far xD
New ones every Monday :)
The chord you listed as #I is probably more properly written as bII since it implies the Phrygian mode (minor b2) in minor. Really great vid though, I love that you use roman numerals in your stuff. Keep it up!
You're correct, I just wanted to keep it all consistent to minor to avoid using multiple scales and confusing people. So as long as they follow that ideal they'll end up at the same place even though I'm away it's not "theoretically 100%"
@@NikNocturnal yeah, that makes sense. When you get more into the theory it can be hard to remember what was hard to grasp starting out. You do a really good job of keeping stuff simple, love your stuff! Keep it up.
Yeah, I do have a suggestion for your next video: How about a new original song with both Darkness that remains & the How to? :D
I live for the intros.
Glad you enjoy them!
need a full version of 1:11 plox
“Dammit, jake it’s not 2010 anymore!” Bro I’m still into 2004-2009 metal. u the shit my guy love ur vids
Aha thank you!
dope video m8 love your style \m/, if you wanna good one The Torn Thread by Slice The Cake has the best dark melody ive heard in a while maybe youve already heard it but still
Whoa, I have that exact same guitar, lol. I fucking love that thing. Such a great metal foundry.
That Spotify is absolute gold
I would love that on a downloadable song instrumental
Dude singing too
Glad you enjoy it! If I get enough requests I would make any of these into a full song, or at least attempt to.
Can u do the most common metal tranisitions from riffs to chorus’s/melodies? or most used endings or intros? Or u prolly alreayd made em somewhere
It's already on the to-do list :)
100% best intro of all time
Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Well...I think "DARKtones" deserved some mention here...as in "Damone"....or "Minerva"...by Deftones...the shift in chord progression is borderline genius in both heaviness....and darkness...
The Speed demon LIT!!!
You do realize that so of this is Lamb Of God, right? Everything you played was similar to something on their last 2-3 (maybe 4) albums... I LOVE IT!!!
I love the "Pyramids & shit" and to be honest, I feel like I'm using this pattern (or variations of it) a little too much in my own music right now 😅
Hot to get on a Spotify playlist was awesome. I'd like to listen the full song
Thank you!
Happy Spooktober
^^^^
((How to get on spotify playlist)) please recommend something that sounds like this, i just love that tune
A lot of Ice Nine Kills, Motionless In White. Bands like that have it :)
I think alongside playing the chord progressions, you should give an example of what songs or bands use each type.
^^^
@NikNocturnal: Dammit Jake of 2010, what a metalcore bands famous sounds Asking Alexandria?
Best intro ever
please make tutorials ill will buy them !!!on how to play theses and break it down slow
The first two kinda feel like they both come from all that remains songs from back in the day
You're correct :)
HOLY HELL THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL, THANK YOU NIK! THIS MADE MY NIGHT SOOO MUCH BETTER
Edit: A couple of these progressions remind me of Ice Nine Kill's latest album :)
Aha thank you Ricardo, glad you enjoy them! INK uses a lot of these.
Can we please get a compilation video of the intros to meme monday
Memes aside, those thing are very catchy!
Thank you!
Dammit, I wanna learn how to play those chords you were doing on “Wait, That’s a Dude Singing?”...
Inb4 Nik uses a black marker on his knees and goes Trick-or-Treating as Darknees.
Oh noe.
1:27 Haunted Shores - Norway Jose
Do some more trivium covers
Never clicked so fast in my life
Ik samw
:D
I'mma need some examples of the How to get on Spotify playlist. Please
Liked just for the intro lmao
Aha glad you enjoyed it Shelby!
0:04 is the real essence of this entire video.
Pyramids and shit is sooo cool :0
Dude, I absolutely love your content, but I have a question: How do you record metal music if it is not Fl Studio, Cubase, Ableton, LMMS, or others?
Thank you! I use Cubase 9.5 Elements.
"Bruh just diminish it" 25 seconds into Meshuggah's Electric Red lol
Also it seems like the 0 - 8 - 5 - 7 -11 - 0 is quite dark as well, especially with harmonic minor leads throws in it
^^^ It is :)
0:56 - *flares nostrils, eyebrows drop, corners of mouth point downwards, proceeds to headbang*
What do the numbers in the top right mean? I know what the roman numerals mean but am confused on the other ones, i.e. 12-12-6-2
Appears to be the frets on which the root notes of the chord progression are played if you watch the frets he's playing.
Luke Davies yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks!
Haha. That is hilarious and yet also bad ass!!!
Thanks Lance!
Maybe do a video on the most annoying chord progressions/patterns that happen in metal??
We all love dark knees.
Hey Nik, really enjoyed the video!
One question: How did you block the Floyd on your Hellraiser? Thinking about doing the same.
Greetings drin Germany
Nick
Thank you! I essentially had a block of wood put behind it to block the bridge from moving. I would recommend you going to ur local guitar store and asking them to do it though.
@@NikNocturnal Thank you Nik!
haha that was dope!
Ty brotha!
Does anyone know any songs that has the same vibes to “How to get into a spotify playlist” 0:43 ?
I really wanna know, I love it
yesss
Personal fave goes to "Drop tuned Iron Maiden" 0-0-8-10 (I, I, VI, VII)
why not use a dark spooky chords from a outro of Setting fire to sleeping Giants?
1:55 beautiful
Most used guitar riffs in solo parts?
Thanks for exist
Thank you exist!
Do you have any videos showing your recording process
I don't think he does but you should definitely check his livestreams, he does them regularly when he is making a cover :)
Not yet but as Caleb said my live streams are a great reference :)
Hi Nik, hope you're reading this. I don't even know where to start learning about the "degrees relative to the minor scale". What do I Google? Because I want to learn what it means and learn from this video.
Just learn the basic minor scale, for example if you learn C minor then the first note would be a C. C is the first degree and then every note after is a degree higher. :)
Hey man can you recommend some songs that have the pyramids and shit type chord progressions? (Is that the Egyptian style scale)
Born of osiris, Shokran. :)
Omg I loved the Spotify playlist 1 I thing that that would b an amazing song if mad it into 1 especially if you colab with the 1 dude who did vocals on ur song he’s really amazing at frys. Thumbs if u guys wana se this
