There is a stigma associated with mental health conditions, especially in the church. I have a family member who has a serious mental health condition that involves religiosity symptoms. The church has been counseling him. However, he needs medical intervention as well. I think there are too many people within the church that are uneducated about mental health and encourage people to ask God for deliverance instead of seeking medical help. Im not denying that God can heal mental health problems but there are certain conditions that need medical intervention. I think there are a lot of mental health conditions that can be treated without medical intervention, but its important for leaders in the church to be properly educated so they can advise appropriately. I agree there is a shortage of mental health providers which only worsens the problem.
