    These colorways remind me of those chalky hearts you get at Valentines day, with the little sayings like "be mine" on them. :D Love!

      I can see that comparison! I didn't get to buy clearance hearts this year.

    Love them both and yellow was never my favourite colour but this is really beautiful. I would love to see another yellow on yellow speckles with maybe a lighter yellow base. Just lovely.

      I think if I were going to try this I'd do the yellow speckles first and then layer on top. Yellow speckles are not very pigmented, so it would be SUPER hard to see them on a pastel yellow base. But it is possible!

    These both turned out beautifully! I'm surprised at how much I like the yellow, as that's not a color I usually lean towards. But the pink is just as pretty. 💛💕

    I'm glad you have a speckle video. I wanted to make a suggestion for doing heavy speckles. A blush brush. I gave it a shot recently, and while it doesn't offer a lot of control, it works really well for getting a heavy sprinkling of dye in a way that is very light, as opposed to shaking a container. I got the idea from watching a soap making video where the creator will use a blush brush to apply mica or glitter to the to tops of her bars of soap.

    I know I'm a bit of a broken record, but what about doing this with a color that breaks? One that breaks when dissolved and could give a complex tonal as well as haloed speckles or something that gives a solid color when dissolved but when speckled would show multiple colors would both be really cool!

      Leah - you're not a broken record! This would be lovely on a broken tonal with various dyes that have many different hues.

    The pink one reminds me of an Easter egg! A whole series of these in minis would be fantastic! I would like to see what happens when you take a dark color and then use a discharge method to make 'reverse' speckles. I am also a HUGE fan of purple and teal, so perhaps a dip dye with pastel teal (not blue, I see you wanting to break violet!) and the other end pastel purple with the opposite color of speckles on top -- or just separate skeins, but that's not as fun :-D

      There isn't an easy way to remove dye to get reverse speckles, unfortunately. I wish that were easy!

    I so love both of the colorways! They feel summery and fun to me, and will also look great together!

      You are so welcome! I had so many questions recently about speckles on tonals that I decided I should give a few examples. :D

    It *would* be interesting to see how yellow speckles work on a dark base. If they were put on a saturated blue base, would it look like green speckles, etc.?

      This would be super fun to see! I think that you would see something, but it would be subtle. (In my experience yellow speckles usually don't feel super sharp unless they are more golden.)

    I know it would take longer, but what would happen if the tonal yarn was dry or almost dry before you added the dye/citric acid to it? I would love to see tonal purple with magenta and a bright blue.

    What if we mixed a little tan dye powder with yellow dye powder to speckle a yellow base? I think the tan would read as yellow.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  2 роки тому

      It could! Yellow speckles can happen, they just never feel sharp when I've tried in the past. I plan to do it again. :D

    Will this work with food coloring based dyed and sprinkles?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  Рік тому +1

      It can! You will want the pastel base to be a bit lighter so the sprinkled speckles can show up.

    To lighten the tone of the yellow, would you just use less dye or are there different shades of yellow dyes?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  2 роки тому +1

      Using less dye is one option that would work well, you can get a softer yellow with brilliant yellow. But yes, there are a lot of different yellow dyes out there that will shift the tone a bit. Duckling and Sunflower yellow are both softer.
