    I came to this video looking for inspiration for a Fauvism Painting assessment at University. This video was entertaining, educational, funny, refreshing - all at the same time. Thanks for providing exactly what I needed to jump into this project. What once seemed like a difficult and daunting task seems now like an opportunity and outlet. So very happy. Thank you!

    I love the Derain brushstrokes. I tend to use that type of thing when doing florals. I can't wait to try this this week. As always, I appreciate the time and effort you put in to doing these videos every week. Good Sunday morning from Alabama USA.

      Hi Rebecca, thanks. Yes, the little brushstrokes are interesting but not really my thing. It needs more study to understand it for me. Maybe later 😁. You know, I love to do this, so time isn't always an issue. Nice to hear 'Alabama' it's quite a mystery to me where everyone is coming from. This solves one. Happy Sunday, we have a storm over here, I'll take walk in a few minutes to be 'blown away', haha. Bye, Albert

    This reminds me of the underpainting technique of blocking in with the complimentary colours of the objects you’ll paint. Like sometimes when I paint leaves on a tree I’ll start with dark red, which acts like shadows and makes the leaves look greener. I think they decided the underpainting was better😎

    The Fauves delight, inspire and perplex me.
    How do they DO it?
    If you don't replicate the colors you see in a landscape or a cityscape, what colors DO you use and why?
    I stared at the paintings and tried to unravel the mysterious system the Fauves used.
    Their choices were not arbitrary.
    Their color sense and brushwork were like signatures...very personal and difficult to copy.
    Someone said that the secret was that you could use any color for an object so long as the substituted color was the same value and temperature.
    For example,a mid-tone color like yellow ochre might be substituted by a mid-tone pinkish orange.
    But, I suspect that there is more to it than that.
    I'm still perplexed and, after trying to decipher the mystery, even more delighted.

    hi love your channel just wondered when you are painting acrylic its looks like paper rather than canvas. what do you use as I seem to only find paper that does not work well and soaks with the paint even if I am careful with the amount I use,.

    • @ImperfectPaintings
      @ImperfectPaintings  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Moonie, thanks. Yes I paint on paper. It's 200 grams drawing paper, also known as technical or academic drawing paper. It's wood free and the fibers stay intact when using an eraser (in Dutch the technical term is 'radeervast' but I can't find a translation to English).
      But I never use water on it. Lots of people (almost every new participant of my painting courses) use water to dilute acrylic paint but it breaks the surface of the paper. When I want thinner paint layers I use acrylic medium to dilute the paint. This will keep the surface of your paper intact.
      You can always use watercolor paper, but I don't like it for acrylics.
      Hope this helps.
      Can you let me know if you are used to add water to your acrylics?

      Hi Just Sayin, thanks and interesting to hear you prefer me making my own one. I think you dive deeper into a style this way. Participants, depending on the language you speak and how your country or culture is, you have a bigger variety in words to describe the relation between the teacher and the one who is learning. I prefer to travel together over authority, that concept is outdated. A university degree doesn't make you more sensitive or knowledgable or a better teacher. Interesting stuff for the next video 😁👍😉. Oh and btw, I love longer comments, oftentimes there is more depth instead of just more words. Have a happy day, Albert

    • @ImperfectPaintings
      @ImperfectPaintings  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Miriam, thanks and sorry to hear. I don't know what kind or brand of paint you use, this can be a problem, very cheap paints can cause this.. But also they way you mix. If you mix equal amounts it probably goes wrong. But when taking red and adding a tiny bit of blue, and repeat the process, you can see it gradually changes to a different color. See where you end up. Now start over and take blue and add tiny bits of red in the same way. This sounds strange perhaps but the effect is really different. Somewhere adding a little white helps me sometimes. I have cadmium red and crimson and have ultramarine and prussian blue. Any combination will give me a different purple. Hope this helps. Will you let me know? Thanks, Albert

      @@ImperfectPaintings thanks Albert. What brands not very expensive can i use?

      Hi Miriam,
      Before buying different paint, first try out my suggested way of mixing to see what you get.
      I don't know what country you live and what is available. I see a lot of people who start painting with discount store paint, they don't want to spend 2 euros or dollars more. But it is almost always killing your hobby, they don't mix well and when dry the colors look different. Visit your local art store and ask for basic study paint and you'll be fine. In the description I show what I use, click on a link and compare prices.
      Also don't buy to many colors, learn to mix your own. It's so rewarding and interesting to do.
      Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions! Happy painting, Albert

      Yes, as I mentioned, I checked and it works. I'm sorry I can't help you. I guess you know how to activate the captions, but on your phone you have to tap one time on the screen, tap the three dots and chose subtitles. On you computer screen you have to click on the wheel and activate them. Hope this helps. Albert

    Sorry to spoil the party. But it would be helpful if you learnt to draw. The uninformed have a distinct tendency of failing to recognise that there is evidence of an ability to draw in his work. This is a mistake if you want to produce a reasonable facsimile of his work.

      Thanks Jan for you comment. But you totally missed the point of this video. You can have limited abilities and still enjoy painting, drawing or whatever. Just remember how you learned you walk, ask you relatives or look at old family photographs. Spoiler you couldn't run a marathon immediately. Have a nice day anyway. Albert
