  • No hacks, no tricks, no gimmicks. Just pure watercolour.
As interesting and useful as hacks etc can be, in this lesson I paint a simple autumn landscape. An atmospheric sky with warm muted colours for the trees and land.

I’m a female, 75 year old artist and have been a creative most of my life. I do know you are quite talented, and are a wonderful teacher and fabulous artist! This is how we learn from other artists, and a true artist always learns from their comrades. That’s the magic of art❤thank you for sharing, you have a great channel.

Thank you for just starting the video instead of spending four minutes waffling at the camera about what you are going to paint (like so many youtubers do these days). Your style is appreciated.
The painting is lovely. I learned a lot from the narration.

I like how you've created distance in this painting. It's lovely and relaxed, with it's simplicity being its strength.

You make the process so approachable! I feel like I might have a fighting chance of making something decent when I watch your videos. You really take some of that intimidation away and make me feel like when I sit down to paint tonight, I won’t find myself staring at a blank piece of watercolor paper, wondering where to start. Thanks for doing what you do, and for doing it so well!

I share the same sentiments as many. He’s so calm, and focused on his description of each technique. I’ll be rewatch in many times, while painting. Thank you so much!

As someone with adhd and a tendency to overly fuss with minutiae details, am deeply impressed by the practicum of *'less is more'* in watercolor painting.
It's a challenging discipline... one that provides workable strategies to offset my brain's default habits, which too often lead to predictable overwhelm, frustration & stuckness.
Following your awesome teaching helps retrain my approach to making expressive suggestions that convey far more with a minimum of strokes.
Am finding cross-over benefits in other areas of my life, as well.
Much appreciation to you your wonderful artwork!🙏💝✨️

That's the first time I've heard ADHD (attentional deficit hyperactivity disorder) associated with fussing over minute details and getting overwhelmed. I'd be going for a second opinion on the diagnosis. 🙏🩵

I’m glad you found the video helpful. I think everyone finds it a little difficult to resist the temptation to overwork a painting, especially if just starting out. Try using larger brushes than you think you need, that helps to keep everything loose.

I love that you used ONLY watercolor. Many UA-cam artist's no longer make videos of substance without gel pens, gouache or other media. Thank you Sir.

Thank you. I do enjoy using mixed media, ink and watercolour is a nice combination. That said, there is a certain magic to pure watercolour.
