Note: I made a mistake on the video on the last two examples. I meant to put the Clarity and Dehaze Adjustments in a Group with a black mask. After selecting all of the Dehaze and Clarity Layers, I Clicked the Black Mask Button on TK8 CX panel instead of Clicking the Left Side Button of the TK8 Group Icon to add all of the layers into a new Group with a black Mask. I said everything correctly but clicked the wrong button. My apologies. If you follow the PDF Notes everything is correct.
For Clarity:
The First Mistake came at 12:20 where I should have Clicked on the Left Side of the TK8 CX Group Icon to put the Layers in a group with a black mask.
The Second Mistake came at 21:37 where I should have Clicked on the Left Side of the TK8 CX Group Icon to put the Layers in a group with a black mask.

Thanks Dave. Love your tutorials. The last two examples it looks like you meant to put the clarity and dehaze layers in a group with a black mask. But you added a black mask to the dehaze layer instead. Looking forward to more of your TK Friday videos.
Great Stuff! Thanks Again!!
Hello Dave still a tutorials with lots of new products, thank you for the time for going to create these videos.👍👍👍
Thank you so much Dave, can't wait to try this is parts of my images 😊
Awesome as usual. Definitely going to use it.
I love it, Dave and Tony !! . Fantastic way to enhance detail.
Thanks a lot
Fantastic job, Dave.
I have learned a lot, man.
Antoine.
Thanks Dave!
Thanks Dave….another winning TK Friday!
Thanks Dave! Always something new to stimulate our thought processes. I greatly appreciate you time and efforts and collaboration with Tony too. Already looking forward to next Friday!!
I am looking forward to giving this technique a try. Thanks for the tip and the PDF is a great help when reviewing and applying it to an image. TGIF
I love your TK Fridays . It's like speed dating, with the added bonus you can go back as many times as you want and slowly get it right ! Perfect.
Great technique again Dave, loved your ‘By George’ - greetings from Bath, UK!
Happiness is TK Friday! Great tutorial. I love you leaving in the common mistakes, I know I often make those same mistakes. The Clarity with deHase is brilliant - great technique. Also helpful to see how you made selections - a combo of Photoshop AI and the TK panel tools.
Overall this is a very well done, well research and well planned tutorial. Dave you are the master of easy to follow tutorials, I plan on using some of these techniques when I am back in Photoshop later today. Thanks Dave!
Nice. One of my main detail enhancement techniques is using Darks TP in TK8. I usually pick the two (light&Dark) bottom options which are the most subtle.
Great tutorial as usual. Would love to see you use TK8 on wildlife imagery. And BW files. Also BW film filies.
Cool, simple and effective ways to improve image quality and reception. Your duo has endless ideas for quick and fun ways to improve the look of your paintings. That's good. For dehaze and clarity, I use a 1 or 2 or 3 halftone masks depending on the image in order to weaken the effect and make it more delicate and expressive. Greetings from Poland from the city of "Fortress Przemyśl" .Ps. listening to your ideas is addictive, but in the positive sense of the word.
Thank you very much !
Hi Dave: Another great video. Thanks for pulling this material together and sharing it with your community. I continued to see my knowledge level strengthening with each of your videos. Keep well! Cheers, Keith
Thanks Keith.
Thank Dave, Excellent tutorial very good ideas for creating beautiful images. It took me two days to really understand the process and start creating, can't wait till next TK Friday!!!
You're very welcome!
Thanks for another masterclass, Mr. Kelly. Precious tips!
Best regards from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil.
You’re welcome Paulo.
Hi Dave… Excellent as usual👍.. I have been using the clarity/dehaze action with the edge mask for enhancing fine detail or intersected with a luminosity/range mask to control effect across the target area. I’ve had some good results too… love it!
Thanks for the tip.
Another great tutorial! I’d like to see more on face edits especially using frequency separation. Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been thinking the same. Would love to see examples editing portraits/faces with frequency separation and dodge/burning.
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been thinking the same. Would love to see examples editing portraits/faces with frequency separation and dodge/burning.
Great episode Dave. Thanks again! I also really like the technique Freaky Amazing Detail by Kevin Hollywood. I made a action for it and added it to the TK8 panel. Its great.
That sounds very interesting. I will have to check that out.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Definitely do. I think you will like it.
So helpful to see real-world example uses of the tools and techniques. Could you do a tutorial on the Triple Play actions? Tony has written that he uses them on "every photo." They are easy to use, but I am not sure of the use cases.
I forgot about this video Roger on the Triple Play Action: ua-cam.com/video/Yv7LTaCOPQY/v-deo.html
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly How did I miss that one! Thanks for all you do, Dave.
Thanks
Thanks!
Thank you Robert
Great tutorial Dave. I will definitely be making use of this. Would this be used instead of Topaz Sharpen AI or in addition to it?
I would use it in addition to Sharpen Ai. I like this technique for grabbing some extra detail out of areas that you want your viewers eyes to go too.
I purchased the TK8 plugin over your link, but the promo code was not accepted. Anyway, I got it now and the installation in my Photoshop was easy. Hope you show me the functions now. I have an abo for you. ;)
Dave...at 5:02 minutes, how did you add detail to the center when the mask shows the pedals? I probably missed something...I am a real new......thanks...William
The effect goes over the entire image at that point and then a mask is added to a group for both the Clarity and Dehaze actions. I applied a black mask to the group and painted using a white brush only the center of the flower through a selection.
Dave, last two examples you were adding a black mask instead of a group after dehaze and clarity shift selection
You are right Areu. I put on a black mask by mistake. I meant to put it in a group with a black mask.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly ohh yeah, I assumed as much, hopefully people by now now the two buttons by heart, they should anyway :)
@@areusirius2054 I made a note about the mistake I made in the video description. Thank you for pointing that out. I said everything correctly but I hit the wrong button. The PDF Notes are correct.

Dave,
In the 3rd example, I don't get why you had to use the Mask Calculator if you already had a selection made, why could you not just click on the mids 3 luminosity button and then click on the Color Grading tool? I re-worked the edit just like you did and I had to use the Mask Calculator to get to the Mid-3 selection like you did, it would not work the way I described above, but I don't understand why, can you please clarify? What am I missing? Thanks Dave for another get lesson.
Good question Mario. I saved it as a selection because I knew I would be using that same mask twice. If you’ll recall I used it for the Lightening up of the foreground with the intersection of the mids 3. I then I used it again for the new Detail Technique on the group with the Clarity and Dehaze. Here is where you trouble comes. If you make a selection and then click on the Luminosity Mask Icon on the TK8 MultiMask Panel, the selection will be immediately deselected. However, if you make a Selection and click on the My Channels Icon you can load an Active Selection or a Channel. Then Click on the Mask Calculator and Click X for Intersect then you can Click on the Luminosity Mask Icon and Choose the Luminosity Mask of choice and then Click = on the Mask Calculator and then output the mask to the Color Grading Tool or whatever output you prefer. Again, it does not work the way you described because if you have a selection and click on any of the Masking Tools available on the TK8 MultiMask Panel your selection will be deselected. The My Channels button is what you are needing to use after a selection. If you didn’t need a luminosity mask and wanted to apply that selection straight to a Color Grading Tool or any Adjustment Layer you would not have any issues. I hope this makes sense.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly - Yes that explains everything very clearly! I went through the 3rd example step by step and saw exactly what you're saying and that i need to use the Mask Calculator in this situation. I got Dave - Thanks Dave - Have a Great Weekend and thanks for lesson.
Thanks
Thank you Chris.
Thanks
Thank you Peter.
