You are really good, Dave, at discovering ways to improve an image and then using the TK8 plugin as a tool to accomplish your goals. Your TK Friday workflows are never a cookbook recipe that treats every image the same, but rather a creative interaction between you and the images to find and bring out the best light. I particularly liked the burning and dodging in this one and how it added your personal touch to the image. Although, most of the other adjustments were also your personal interpretation of what the image needed as well, and the final result definitely reflects your "good eye" for digital development. Keith's image is a great starting point, and your series of subtle adjustments definitely brought out some additional beautiful light and dimension.
I purchased the panel a few months ago and I love it. I'm especially happy that I came across you on you tube with so many wonderful videos. Your method of teaching is super, you explain and show step by step which is very helpful because i find I learn more when I do. Thanks again for a wonderful workflow, can't wait to watch some more
Mr. Kelly, there's no chance that one doesn't learn a lot watching your videos! Always a pleasure. And I'd like that you'd bring back the "road map" to the next videos of the TK serie. Thanks so much for sharing. Best regards from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil.
Thanks again Dave, always find something in your video's which improves my workflow. The dodging and burning at the beginning on the mask is a keeper!!
Those subtle adjustments really transform the image and give a 3D effect. Thank you for showing so clearly the application of masks and giving explanations of why you make the changes that you do.
Great lesson, Dave. I love the object selection tool that you use a lot. I have some problems adding and subtracting from the subject. I would love a short tutorial showing slowly how you use the shift and option buttons to add and subtract from the subject.
Thank you Dave for the fantastic work on this photo. I learn so much from your editing using Tony's TK 8 plug in, that will help me tremendously on my photo processing.
Thanks Dave for your ongoing TK series. I consider the TK panels one of my must have apps. Besides Sean Bagshaw and yourself there isn't much tutorial help so I am immensely grateful to you.
Mr.Kelly, I appreciate how each video focuses on specific techniques to achieve a balanced image. Each of your videos shows how to vary the approach to achieve the same goal. This teaching method helps me learn different approaches to achieving my goal of creating a pleasant photograph. TK8 makes photoshop more user-friendly. Side note: Have you ever considered doing a tutorial on the Wacom tablet. I tried to incorporate the tablet into my workflow for several years but have yet to succeed. Thank you, Dave.
Hi Dave, Great lesson! I'm in the process of updating my workflow on a larger scale just now, shifting the focus of my editing from LrC more to PS. At the same time, I'm trying to figure out what switching to linear profiles at startup in LrC will do for my photos. I've been using TK panels for quite some time, but not too excessively. This should change in the new workflow. This tutorial is a perfect guide and inspiration for me. I am very grateful for it, it came at the right time. Friday is a good day for me since I came across your videos.

Another outstanding tutorial! Thanks Dave. I always look forward to TK Fridays! Dave can you remind us of the other tutorial where you demonstrate how to use the Vibrance and Saturation mask?
Thanks. So many tips and tricks in this tutorial. I liked the before/after comparing as you progressed. You always have gems in your tutorials which teach me something new. Thanks!
I enjoyed watching this episode and, as always, learnt a great deal from it. As a result, I am getting less intimidated over using the TK8 panels. Keith’s image brought back happy memories of my childhood walking the Derbyshire dales and the Peak District - a far cry from my present home in the Capricornia region of Queensland Australia where the colours are quite different (as are the rock formations, flora and fauna). Keep up the good work and thanks.
Thank you. I have a 2 part series on the Saturation and Vibrance Masks. Here are their links: Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/0KpfEpCiAPk/v-deo.html Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/j0H5ANaPVLs/v-deo.html
Hi Dave: First of all, a big thanks to Keith Simpson for offering up his wonderful image. I really enjoyed today's video as you shared your thought-process and techniques for processing this image. I haven't used the Vibrance/Saturation mask selector in the past as I wasn't comfortable in knowing the best method to use it. This all changed in today's video. I have shared your series with a study-group of photographers that I am member of and I was recently discussing with them your use of Linear Profiles. As always, thanks for creating and sharing your post-processing ideas and techniques. Cheers, Keith
Very enjoyable and informative. I note the use of the mask calculator and intersecting masks. Is there a possibility of a video with the calculator using + or - George UK
Super video again! I thought the pace was perfect and did not miss the work plan. You did that as you went along. Would it work to use a Saturation mask instead of the color mask to select the blue sky?
More full edits with that panel pls! I'm very interesting in also multi exposure (HDR) blending and editing or Pano HDR :-) im excited if you can do it in future. I'm also work in that area but like to see how other people use different ways and edits. Greetings from Germany.
Really enjoy TK Friday, I have a question that I have been meaning to ask for some time, today you reminded me again when you used the edit selection panel. In the edit selection panel what is the purpose of the zone selectors, I have never seen you use them and when I experiment they just appear to replace any starting selection. If i wanted that I would just go to one of the other panels and export as a selection.
Stephen that is a good question and to be honest I don't know what they are to be used for. Because you are right, once you click on a Luminosity Mask you loose your zone selection. I will try to remember and ask Tony Kuyper why they are there. In the meantime, maybe he will see your question and comment...
Anothe great video Dave, thank you. As I’ve been spending more time learning how to create masks, I’ve been looking for guidance re adjusting a mask after it’s been created eg perhaps I missed an area. Also, if a sky mask misses the sky seen through many tree branches, how do you compensate for this? Thanks!
Thanks Tom. You can Select the Sky and then use Photoshop’s Select and Mask to help refine the mask. For a mask that needs some basic work for refinement you can use the Edit Mask feature in the TK8 Multi Mask Panel like I did in this video. You have the dodge and burn tools as well as the black and white brushes to help you to refine the mask.
Hello again Dave, I am busy now trying to view all of your videos regarding TK. That will take a lot of time :), but as I am very interested in your way of editing that should not be an issue I think. Sofar I have learned very much and I am using that knowledge more and more in my editing. In this video you talked about a roadmap that you shared with us. However I have not seen the video in which you showed taht roadmap and I do not know in which video that roadmap was brought up. Is it possible to send me a link to that roadmap so that I can start thinking like you when I start working on a foto ? Greetings from Holland.
Hi Peter. Here is a video that I used the Road Map in: ua-cam.com/video/SQt4e5MMoJA/v-deo.html (I haven't been using the Road Map lately because I am now giving viewers the actual PDF Notes as a Download which can also be considered a Road Map only more detailed...
Another great lesson and again, learning something new. The 'Masking for Success' is now an integral part of my workflow and makes me take time to really look at the image before editing. As clearly demonstrated, it also really speeds up the workflow. Incidentally, do you always opt for the 'Linear Profile' when editing? This really takes it back to a flat image.
A quick question for Dave or the collective wisdom of the group: Does the TK8 panel work alongside Lumenzia or does it supercede it? There are so many Photoshop add-ons, and I'd like to begin working with the most effective and user-friendly among them. Dave's clear-eyed tutorials for TK8 make the panel look very attractive to a newcomer.
I have never used Lumenzia but it is a panel for Photoshop and it works with Luminosity masks and I am sure it is a fine product. I have been using Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Masking Panels for years and I can't say enough good things about them. The TK8 Plugin for Photoshop with its new Color Grading tool and all of it's different masking capabilities are quite a help to my Photoshop Editing Workflow. In my opinion, I think it is best to decide upon one panel and then just commit to learning it. I know that I have become a better Photoshop editor since I started using TK products many years ago. That is my two cents worth.
HI Dave. I have been working through this tutorial, which by the way is great. When you started working on the sky you selected Luminosity mask, "Mid-tones 1" and in the colour grading tool you selected mid-tones and moved the slider to the left to darken the sky. If you decided that you should have used or wanted to try luminosity mask "Mid-tones 2" would you have to delete this layer and start again. Or is there a way to go back and alter the settings. Or would you create another layer using the Luminosity mask Mid-tones 2 and then you compare each one together. Once you have created a layer, how can you open it up again to alter your settings. Hope you can help. Regards Brian
I think I understand what you are asking Brian. You can go into Layer Mask Mode on the TK8 MultiMask Panel and change out the Luminosity Mask to any mask that you like. Layer Mask Mode is a great way to experiment using different masks and I use it all of the time for that. I will try to demonstrate how to use it more on future videos. By the way, it is the Icon right under the MY CHANNELS Icon in the MultiMask Panel...
Hi Dave I forgot to ask. I have a landscape image and I want to increase the saturation and the brightness of some of the grass. Which of your tutorials will demonstrate this. Hope you can help.
I am not sure which one at the top of my head Brian. I would try using a Hue/Sat Adjustment and bring up the Saturation to the amount you would like on the Green areas. Then put a black mask on that layer, which will hide the adjustment. Then I would use a Color Mask to isolate the Green Grass and output to a Black Mask Painting Through a selection and paint the adjustment on. I would start out at around 30% opacity and build up as needed. You could clip a Brightness /Contrast Layer to that layer and pull up the brightness just on the green grass. I am sure there are different ways of achieving the same result but that is one way you could try.
Hello Dave, I love your video, but I'm encountering the same problem over and over again. I am following your steps exactly but this is what's happening: ua-cam.com/video/O5_-ygshXK4/v-deo.html Do you know what is going wrong?
I think you are using an older version of TK8 Multi Mask. Tony made an update to correct this problem it is TK8 Multi Mask Beta. It should solve your problem. You should have received an email for it. Check your email to see if it is there. If you can't find it you can contact Tony Kuyper here: goodlight.us/contact.html Also there is a brand new version out now, it's TK9 with a lot of new features. Watch the beginning of this video where I talk about it: ua-cam.com/video/9w7XSZIDa5U/v-deo.html Once you get either the TK8 Multi Mask Beta or the new TK9 Plugin for Photoshop you should be good.

@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thanks Dave I will try this.
Bloody hell, better get into photoshop. This is fantastic.
I miss the roadmap feature. Please add the roadmap
Thanks for the feedback Phil. I felt this video was a bit long so I left it out.
Darb ish ear is the pronunciation
Thanks for that.
Hello Dave,
I love your video, but I'm encountering the same problem over and over again.
I am following your steps exactly but this is what's happening: ua-cam.com/video/O5_-ygshXK4/v-deo.html
Do you know what is going wrong?
I think you are using an older version of TK8 Multi Mask. Tony made an update to correct this problem it is TK8 Multi Mask Beta. It should solve your problem. You should have received an email for it. Check your email to see if it is there. If you can't find it you can contact Tony Kuyper here: goodlight.us/contact.html
Also there is a brand new version out now, it's TK9 with a lot of new features. Watch the beginning of this video where I talk about it: ua-cam.com/video/9w7XSZIDa5U/v-deo.html
Once you get either the TK8 Multi Mask Beta or the new TK9 Plugin for Photoshop you should be good.
@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thank you: that did the trick!
